So PGI has, at the last minute, decided to drop the be a hero challenge upon us players to try and get ELOs sorted out, and in doing so incentivise players to drop as lone wolfs.

Here's what we can expect to happen:
  • The ultimate winners will not necesarily be the best player, but the one who spends the most time playing this weekend
  • Organized teams, rather that dropping as 4 mans or 8 mans, will instead drop as four or eight (or more) one mans to get into the same match
  • Players on the same Guild/Corp and in the same game will work together to maximize the success of certain players
  • Identified "top leaderboard" players will be teamkilled by rival players dropped into the same game to prevent them from accumulating kills
  • Someone will fail to read the rules and be outraged when they realize that playing with a groups invalidates the entire weekend (this one was mistaken by word choice and is false)
* PLEASE NOTE For this particular challenge event, only solo player scores will count towards the leaderboards. Players who are within a group of 2 or more people for any match played during the event, will not have their scores counted towards any leaderboard challenges.

cant say you'll be wrong about any of these

if they want to have a legit contest they need to account for tks somehow.

or just make it a group thing (4/8)

You forgot:
The winner, despite everything, will probably be someone in the "steering wheel underhive" who just got a trackball for his birthday and quadruples his Elo from 50 to 200 over 40 hours of playtime.

I'm glad it was posted though, I'm tired of doing these things myself.

Kudos.

Ya.

I am sorta thinking it might be a better idea if I just drop in my Elmo during the weekend to maximize profit.

It'll be like the good ol' days before the Economy patch.

Well, the first and last ones will most likely be true.

Stat padding as a competition isn't very exciting in my view.

Damn your logical post...I come to these forums to rage!!

I don't think the above problems will be terribly abundant, but there is definite potential for abuse during this competition. Then again, I'm being optimistic

I mean, for awhile people tk'd the devs when they played, and this was when the forums were friendly and there was no contest!

I still plan on competing

the other thing is depending on how each stat is weighted, the play would be different.

if W/L was highly rated, i'd play in absolutely my most competitive mech and only that mech, and then probably quit if i get enough distance from from the 2nd guy

if its KDR, i'm taking a sniper and then totally blixing kills

if its accumulative match score, i'd go in a splatcat, charge the other team in the least exposed corridor possible, kill 2 mechs then die, and go to my ac/20 cat then do the same thing while the splatcat is in game

if i'm worried about TK's, there is no way I'm taking an atlas because I need something that can **** from the spawn ASAP

etc

none of these are particularly fun or competitive ways to go about it, but I'm sure they'd be the most effective.

Odds on it will be a Raven 3L getting the highest score for lights.

Maybe I will drop my 2xSRM4's in my Jenner in exchange of 2x2SSRMs and see what difference it makes. OR go kit up a 3L instead and join the rest of the players doing mass spam of 3Ls for the weekend... ;)

Edit - sentence correction.

This is what bothers me -- if it is match score (which it seems to be) -- then playing the match effectively is far far less important than playing the match quickly.

This isn't a contest of skill, its a test of endurance.

It's going to be like the South Park WoW montage, except with mechs.

maybe, maybe not. i'd like to think they aren't that amateurish at coming up with a formula. it should be a weighted non-linear formula which would favor winning most of your games over playing a ton of games.

kidding ;-)

I bet the servers are gonna get a workout this weekend...

I haven't been doing any synchronized dropping, so I don't know how the new system has been affecting it. I imagine a group of guys would get split up if they sync drop for the weekend, based on their individual rankings, though...

My feeling is if you got a big enough organization, like 40+ people syncing at once, you'd get a majority in the same game since the queue just got 40 people at the same time so what's it gonna do except put them together.

At that point you can TK all the pugs and run shenanigans to boost the score of a particular player so that he does like 2k damage with 6 kills. Repeat until he is the mechwarrior champion!
