in most cases the more buttons your mouse has the better.

I've used a Logitech G5 for a few years now. I only got it because it was on sale for like $25 and I needed a new mouse. Can't say that I really noticed a huge difference in accuracy but I like how it is a larger mouse with some weight to it and that it has extra buttons and buttons to change dpi on the fly. My suggestion is to not worry about it being a gaming mouse or not but just find a mouse that feels comfortable and use that.

How can people function so low? O.o

I've had mine set to 1200 for months. I just tried setting it to 250 just to see what it would feel like and I had to pick up and move my mouse repeatedly across the pad just to get across the screen.

maybe you're just bad..?

Logitech G700 user here. It's new to me (my trusty old mouse finally died) but I'm really liking it thus far. I want to put a longer life battery in it, though.

Mouse wheel functionality is a Godsend! On mine: Up is Zoom. Down is Next Target. Left is Thermal Vision. Right is Night Vision. And pushing it is Alpha Strike.

Now if I could just get used to lowering DPI to aim, then raising it again... Or even remember I can do it! I wish I could figure out how to program a thumb button make the mouse be lower DPI only while I'm holding it.

Hmmm...I'll do my best to explain this. First, make sure you have the latest version of Logitech Gaming Software installed (8.40).

Then open Logitech Gaming Software.

Make sure your mouse is the selected device (you should see a picture of it in the lower left next to the Logitech logo)

On the Home screen for the mouse (should be a blue bar under the picture of a house) make sure you have the mouse set to Automatic Game Detection. If it is set to On-Board Memory then click the picture of the computer with a cogwheel to change it.

Then, on the bottom row of icons, click on the picture of the mouse with blue arrows.

Put your cursor over the button you want to assign, then click the blue drop-down arrow. Select Edit.

On the left side, click on Mouse Function. From there, select DPI Shift. Press Ok.

Now, on the bottom row of icons again, click the picture of a mouse pointer with a cogwheel next to it. This will show you all of your set sensitivity levels. Most of them will be blue but one of them will be orange. This orange setting is your DPI Shift sensitivity (the sensitivity the mouse uses when you're holding down the button you assigned to DPI Shift).

You can click on any of these sensitivity levels by clicking on the little bars over the line graph. Then you can click the Assign Shift button and it will set that sensitivity level as your DPI Shift level. This is how you select whatever sensitivity you want enabled when you hold down your DPI Shift button.

And you're done, assuming you could follow my instructions (not a knock on you, I suck at writing instructions :) ).

A cheap mouse is a bad mouse, but these "gaming mouses" are just overrated.

Most of the time in the "top tier" mouses the tag itself is 70% of the price.

And it could be because of your grip style, see more here;

I use a Logitech MX518, but plan on upgrading someday soon, I hope.

I get very precise control with it, but the higher the DPI the better.
Also Laser is better than Optical.

The G400 is an MX518 with higher DPI.

As for mousepads... I swear by my Func Surface 1030!

Different strokes for different folks.

It wasn't meant as an insult. I'm aware different people have different preferences. I was just shocked to see someone setting them so low.

My 1200 works great for me, I'm able to rack up plenty of points and maintain plenty of maneuverability with my mouse. 250 just seems so strange a setting to me.

Really hope you didn't take offense to my earlier statement. No offense was meant in the slightest.

Edit: On the topic of mousepads. I have a Razer mousepad that was a free giveaway for City of Heroes: Going Rogue that works pretty well for me. Though I think they refer to it more as a "desktop skin" or something. I long since threw out the packaging so couldn't say for sure. It's thin, plastic, textured surface for the mouse, and a special texture on the bottom to prevent it from sliding around freely. (And that description sounds slightly kinky when I read back over it...)

The most expensive mouse I've ever used cost $8.50. The cheapest would be $1.

So that's what DPI Shift means! Thank you.

Your instructions were just fine. I'd figured a lot of it out already, but obviously not all of it. This software really could use some real instructions. Or labels. Or both. It tries so hard to be cutesy and easy that it succeeds at neither.

Sadly, DPI Shift isn't available -- quelle surprise! -- in Onboard mode, which is what I'd already programmed it in since I can't (yet...) get it to recognize MWO automatically; so the learning curve continues.

I never understand people that say wireless mice are non-responsive or they are worried the batteries will die.
You should buy a good mouse instead of a crappy one.

I have a Logitech MX 1000 Laser which must have at least 6 years on it. It still works very good.
Cant say perfect because it is starting to get old.
The battery still holds at least two days, maybe not constant usage 24h/day but as much as I use it, and that is a bit.
Then you just set it in its holder/charger/reciever that is standing right there on the desk when you go to sleep/work/school.

Its one of the best mice I have had.

It actually doesn't matter. I use a "gaming mouse" but its a cheap one @ 30 usd. The answer is always to use what you are good with. The one I got only because Logitech discontinued their Logitech Mini Optical or "LMO." Was favorite of pro SC1 players that like small mice and wasn't "designed for gamers."

Same story for FPS players and their beloved microsoft mice.

Well Zowie has this Zowie Mico that is basically the exact same shape as the old LMO and is small enough to be comfortable for finger tip players. The most important thing in the world is that you use what you are good with...it can be a cheap mouse or an expensive one. If you REALLY just want to spend money for something of high quality then I think your best bet is the Logitech G9X or some of the Zowie mice for my favorite.

Naga Hex made this game like, 500 times better. Tons of buttons on the side for weapons groups ergonomically placed. Made heat management and managing weapons by location so much better.

I use a Naga Epic, wireless and wired (the cable for the recieve/charger plugs in to the mouse to make it wired and charge) also the synapse software is ok, buggy as hell but the macros are easy to set up.

Naga was released in 2009, so either Razer gave you one 2 years before release or your over exaggerating

Although if I was in the market for a MMO mouse now I would look at the Logitech G600, as Logitech are better then Razer.

Wondering if upgrading from a $20 wireless logitech to something like the G700 would be worth it.

I've noticed how smooth some people's targeting reticle moves in streams and youtube vids. Is it your mouse? Mousepad? Mine is all jerky when move it no matter how slow I am.

No exaggeration this is how I would draw a circle with my reticle currently:

Posted Image

So worth it for me to upgrade my mouse?

Also I NEED to add that this whole circle/prediction/snapping/sensor thing is a load of crap. Again it really is about the shape/size mouse that you are good with not the sensor.

Great snipers from other games would miss every shot if their mouse could draw those perfect circles...some would do better..but it depends on what you are used to. If you're used to the pixel skipping then you are used to leading your shots in a certain way. What is "techincally" better might not be good for YOU personally. Point is don't focus to hard on being able to draw that circle.

I generally only need 3 buttons for this game. If by chance I need a fourth, I just bind it to the keyboard.
