Are people seriously defending using foul, insulating language and behavior in the game? Are people seriously defending hate talk and racial slurs? Even in America, you can get into trouble (called Harassment) for saying a racial slur. And there are things called Hate Crimes, as well as mental abuse. You know, the Freedom of Speech country? Even in that country, you still can't just say anything without any repercussion. Same should be in this game. Your freedom of speech only goes as far. Even on the Internet.

(Guild Wars 2 bans people for such language. Just an FYI.)

Reporting? Bah that's boring and doesn't work anyway

I had one guy in team hurl a huge amount of abuse at me today for no particular reason, finding his atlas DDC and coring it's rear CT and then legging it before leaving it to die on the front lines was extremely satisfying

We won the match, so I didn't feel bad ;)

Both are frowned upon by the higher ups. Both can be seen as griefing.
Both can also be worked on by the playerbase by not being dicks.

Absolutely. I'm just pointing out that one can physically prevent you from playing the game, and the other can not.

I seriously don't get it. I do not swear at people in the game or use racial slurs. But...Why do you people care so much?? They are words. Ignore them for the love of God! They cannot hurt you. Holy crap. I shudder to think what you people would do if you came and spent a day with my unit. You would probably go an report us to the President or some crap.

I care because I have young kids...kids who I will not let play this game because of this issue. Same with many other players. It is sad that the next generation will not have the opportunity to play this game and find a love for mech warrior because of this issue.

Oh and I agree to that, in part. Yes team killing stops you from playing immediately, but killing off the basic civility of a playerbase will kill off the game slowly. Eventually the game stops being fun for a lot of people and the game is shut down.
It is a more long term thing, but still validates what I said earlier: this is mostly in the hands of the player base.

I'm not defending it. It's terrible and disgusting.

But I AM pointing out the futility of trying to make people nice on the internet. Chances are if you are seriously offended by hate speech (Not accusing anyone of not genuinely being offended), the internet as a whole is not a healthy place for you. People are mean, and if you can't stand mean people, then leaving is the easiest way to keep yourself sane.

People are going to be jerkwads on the internet no matter what happens. If you think people should be banned because a word filter catches them spelling out a naughty phrase, then I hope you don't go anywhere else on the internet where people can (and will) be mean and get away with it.

I'll remember that when someone you care for kills themselves...I'll read your post at the funeral.

Already lost people to suicide. I realized that it was his own fault and no one else's. I have no pity for anybody who is so fragile that they can't deal with life, and if they are that fragile, they should be nowhere near a computer.

The usa... Great example.

People here in the civilized first world have a much thicker skin. Apparently.

If you are dead, you can always just go into a new game.

When C3 is finally implemented fully and every game is filled with racial and sexual slurs non-stop I wonder if that would be considered making the game physically unplayable? It is also one of the most quoted reason for people not wanting to join up with groups. Maybe it will drive away a good percentage of the older players who enjoy Mechwarrior.

yeah, I can see that. I guess I just ignore 90% of what's in the chat window unless it's tactical banter and waypoint directives. Too busy playing the game to care about non-game related chatter.

The only thing I have learned from cruising this thread is that I seriously hope the vast majority of you people never reproduce...

It actually bothers me more if someone dies and then blames the team than if they cuss or call names. Funny how you all care about words in a chatbox while playing a game where you attempt to kill as many people as possible.

sounds to me like somebody is mad about WORDS! words mean nothing, they are completely void of substance. They're only worth what we perceive them to be worth because vocal language is a tool to create and partake in social games due to a lack of anything better to do.

news flash, nobody cares. Get over it you allegedly emotionally fragile attention seeking man child.

oh and as long as i'm being generous, here's another word of advice;

you can use soda can tabs to offset hangers giving you more space in your closet

this cracks me up...nbt was wayyy rougher in-game or the forums for that matter

and people here are worried about what kids will hear/read lol....I will guarantee you it is not the MW community veterans popping off with the foul language and racial stuff, it is usually the kids....did you ever sit in on a headset and listen to comms on the machine i.e., game consoles, that you use to babysit your children.

I personally have yet to come across anyting worse than the usual swear words mostly regarding the way you were playing.

I am guilty of such myself. I get hot headed quickly when playing competitive games and more often than not I have commented my own too early or unecesary death with a F U to all or my team before disconnecting.

I also had this one occassion where one guy started insulting me about nothing and I tried to cool it down with a "your mum" joke and in the end he was about to report me for that.

End of the line: People (and I guess no one can really say this would not apply to himself) behave different in the internet's anonymity as they do in real life.
