Yeah, it's not like millions of people in the Middle East get offended at anti-Islamic cartoons on a weekly basis or anything..it's *only* Americans who get offended by stuff...right...

Who's the "victim"? The suicider? Thats the dumbest thing I ever heard lol. How can you do something to yourself and be a victim of that action?

Darwin award FTW baby!

You don't just wake up one day and decide to kill yourself. It's a slow and painful process brought about by depression, and no, people don't just give themselves depression. Not something you want to joke about, that's absolutely disgraceful.

I see players using racial slurs and slurs against sexual orientation regularly.

If you do use such words, you're on notice. I screenshot and report it every time.

However, I still see the same players in game later. I'm starting to notice a trend. The policy on this needs to be made more clear to players, and we need better reporting, chat filtering, and blocking tools in-game.

I've voiced concerns about imbalances, and that's one thing. But if the company that manages this game refuses to police this, I will quit. And I will send screenshots to every major gaming site I can find with hopes they'll pick up the story.

I'm not posting them here because I don't want to name and shame.

Something needs to be done about this. We as a community need to band together against this. It's disgusting.

While I question the intellect of people who do such things over a chat channel (As they usually don't have the balls do say that **** to someones face)......its the internet. Get used to it.

Not to be a complete **** but one would think you would be able to ignore the naughty words the bad men use. Instead of policing others like some self appointed crusader against racial and sexual hate, perhaps you should ignore the comments like you would have to in real life. You can't get someone banned from life and you certainly can't hit someone in the real world that calls you something untoward. Unless of course you want to end up in jail. So just use the life lessons you've hopefully learned and and let these people make morons of themselves.

Pfft hahahaha now you're using the "internet = IRL" argument.
Lemme guess, if I pirate some music on bittorrent, an orphanage explodes?

Merely pointing out how stupid it is, saying the use of language on a video game run by a private company falls under freedom of speech.

@OuttaAmmo, Or god just kills a kitten ( I'm sure that offended someone )

How about all the dainty flower girly boys ( totally offensive right? ) Ask for a Chat filter in game, with a toggle so we can turn it off. That way the poor souls don't have to hurt their... eyes and brains? with the naughty words on the screen, but I can still turn the oppressiveness off, to view the chat unhindered.

I'm not saying me calling someone online a ******* is protected by the founding fathers. I'm saying some entitled MWO player with a soft underbelly isn't gonna get his way because the Internet is the digital equivalent of Mos Eisley.

well, 1. this game needs a profanity filter if people are getting offended by chat

2. the only real way of stopping the slurs and such is to stop reacting to them. the only reason people use harsh language and insults is because people like you feed into it and respond to it. you are letting them get to you, you are letting yourself become offended and letting them win. if no one replies to a persons attacks, they sit there with an empty chatlog just staring at what they said with the only thing left to do is either hit escape or stare at their own messages...

even telling someone you are going to tattle on them is letting them win because they know they got to you...
and getting them suspended/banned (which it would take ALOT to do) they will either make a new account (since MWO is free) or move on to another game with the same behavior...

i am so sick of the way people act in this country, when i was a kid there was a saying. "sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me" but now children are being taught in school this new saying "sticks and stones can break my bones but words will hurt forever"

i've never been more disappointed with the direction this country (usa) has been moving then when i heard that

Religious zealots aside. Who are the pantywaisted individuals that take offense at "Wirty Dords" or some other injustice? Americans. Seriously, I feel like Americans go out of their way looking for problems so they have something to ***** about.

And I completely and utterly agree.

There is a difference between 'not trying to offend someone' though, and flat out attacking someone.

"OMG YOUR A FAIRY" or "YOU SUCK AT LIFE" or "YOU ARE SO **** AT THIS GAME" etc are part and parcel with... well, living. There will always be a bit of that around. Hell, I live in Australia, where we collectively refer to a group of people as 'WANKERS'. I also spent far too many years sleeping in the dirt as a soldier, and one of the greatest epiphanies that gave me about the human race in general is that people outside the military really don't know how to take criticism, and think that every bit of criticism sent their way is a personal attack.

*SIGH* - "I'm not mad at you petal, i'm mad at your mistake. Here, have a tissue, and another. And another. There there"

People taking offense at 'non-pc' remarks or whatever, well, let them.

Maybe my explain-fu sucks today, but all I'm really trying to get at is there is a difference between smack talk and abuse, and abuse should not be tolerated.

Aussie military, eh? I used to drink a couple beers with you guys once in a while in Baghdad 06-07 ;) . And yes, civilians are bit on the soft side when it comes to criticism, they get butt-hurt real quick. Hell, if we talked to them the way we talk to each other they'd really have something fluff a snot rag over. It's not like they don't already live in Disneyland here in the states and they want more, everyone should concede to them because something offended them. Some are offended by a sign in a mall that says Merry Christmas so now we have Happy Holidays instead. We have the so-called educated who don't believe in God anymore so they don't want their kid to Pledge Allegiance in school. Where does it stop? If they had a clue as to how things are out there in some other parts of the world aside from watching a Sally effing Struthers "send me more money for food" commercial and then thinking they know something about the world.
and again, I don't condone attacks based on racial (especially racial),ethnic, anti-religious, or sexual orientation but damn, people....
btw the OP is a master troll

You got that right. Some of my civilian friends are apalled at how me and my battle buddies talk to each other. They are so confused as to how we are friends with the **** we say to each other. But they don't/never will understand.

Oh look, more people who need to HTFU and learn to deal with other people on the internet.

Seriously though. Nobody cares but you tiny minority of arrogant windbags and whiteknights.

EDIT: Oh ****, did I just use a racial slur!!?

A lot of what keeps the gaming industry, and in turn gamers in general, from being taken seriously in society is because of garbage attitudes like this.

The people who say deal with it and act all cool and edgey because they're totally fine with racists and homophobes and sexists online are part of the friggin problem. In fact, I'd go so far as to say they're worse than the hate speech spoutin jerkoffs because they're perpetuatin the stereotype that gamers are a bunch of children who giggle at the word n*****.

I'm reminded of the story not too long ago about the woman who quit a decently lucrative spot on a progaming fighting team because of extremely sexist garbage her team manager was saying. Just, awful awful stuff. Do you know how people reacted to that story? You'd think disgust right in this day and age? Nope. The common line was "That's just how this stuff is." One ***** actually had the gall to say that sexism was part of the "culture of fighting games." and that trying to take that out would be "a horrible blow to the fighting game community."

Sexism. A part of the flippin culture.

Is that what you people really want to be known for? Is sexism, racism, homophobia, bigotry in general, is this the kind of stuff you all actually want associated with whenever you declare you're a gamer? Because that's how it is now and the reason for it is because of garbage like this.

I'm tired of it and I'm absolutely sick of apologists like you all who think that because its always been this way it should always stay this way.

I reject that idea. I reject that idea that its acceptable to not call someone out when they call someone a jewfag in game. I reject the idea that I shouldn't be offended when someone starts spoutin off about how we're all a bunch of f***** n*****. And most of all I reject the idea that I'm the one who is the problem when I say that I'm tired of being associated with these lowlifes simply because I choose to identify myself as a gamer.

I don't think most of us are talking about an occasional curse. We are talking about people being down right rude, insulting, and spewing out sewage waste from their... fingers? The people who say hurtful things with the intent to hurt, and who bring Race, Religion or some other prejudice (Hating on them, not just talking about it). It's be like, someone finding out you are of African decent, and they go on and on insulting you and degrading you just because of that. (Like certain words we all know that are a racial slur.)

A swear. Whatever. I wished they wouldn't but it doesn't bother me. Calling me a ******, a ****-**** or a ******************************* would be unacceptable. Basically, anything the forums block out, the game should to. And going around those blocks should be an offense worth at least a warning or something.

(*'s were randomly added in. But I hope you get the point.)

There is an actual good point to this...The forums has a filter but the in game chat function doesn't?

Hopefully they do

I prefer "sticks and stones may break my bones but whips and chains excite me". Seriously though, just because it used to be that way, never actually made it right. Times change and just as people grow up and mature, so does a society.

Not a weakness, a sickness, of the mind. It does not mean they don't deserve to exist. The same goes with cancer and a variety of other illnesses, it's not their fault.

This is stupid. It's not a weakness or a sickness. Everyone dies. You, me, everyone here. We're all going to die. I don't understand this infatuation with people pretending like death is the worst possible thing that could ever possibly happen. There's nothing wrong with it, it is natural, and there's nothing wrong with a person choosing to end their life of their own free will. My grandma is in the hospital right now, 92, she's been on kidney dialysis for years now and she's tired. She doesn't want to slowly waste away. She's ready to die, and has since stopped her treatments, effectively choosing to die now while she still has some pride and control. Should she be locked away in an asylum because you stupidly believe ending your own life is some sort of disease?

Go preach your bleeding-heart self-righteous liberal ******** elsewhere, like the mirror. You might actually find someone receptive to it there.
