The problem with cheese, primarily the splatcat, is that it kills the fun of the game. Forget good aim, concentrating fire with teammates, managing laser and ballistic, heat and ammo...

Nope! Just grab a 'Cat, fill it to the brim with SRMs and kill everything but assaults in two salvos. The problem isn't even with these builds getting multiple kills. Even if they trade kills, it still has a broader effect. The problem is being on the receiving side and being taken taken out near instantly to something you can't possibly defend yourself from on most maps before being gibbed. This is simply not fun. It's frustrating, grating, and utterly annoying. You can desperatly alpha strike, torso twist, and run for cover, but the mindless, fun-ripping Splatcat will simply kamakaze right into you and strip off armor and weapons in one move.

I like Mech Warrior due to the prolonged battle, squeezing every amount of skill, aim, and armor from your mech before going down. This is NOT Call of Duty where can die instantly from a tiny amount of fire. Splatcats don't feel like Mechwarrior. They don't feel right to fight, kill, be killed by, or even be used in the game. It's just not fun. And that's what we have here...

Splatcats should be renamed: "Killed the Fun in MWO Cats."

Also people on this forum are apparently incapable of reading comprehension. It's not about killing, being killed by them. It's about how their playstyle is rubbish game design. Read.

I was surprised that I didn't see a lot of Splatcats this weekend.

When I did, it was hilarious to see them on Alpine, where everyone would focus them down and they'd end the game with nearly 0 damage. :)

Twin Gauss K2 is overpowered.

Small Laser Hunch is overpowered.

Small Laser Jenner is overpowered.

MEDIUM LASER (both above) is overpowered.

SSRM is overpowered.

SRM is overpowered.

The ^&$*ING radar lets you know what a mech is carrying before you charge it. USE IT, stop charging Missile Box Eared Cats before figuring out what is in them.

Little hint - almost everything in the game lets you sit outside an SRM's good cone range and blow it apart.

This is why Alpine is one of my most favorite maps.

You're right - it's not hard to aim with a splatcat. But then it's not hard to land shots with anything inside of 300m... It's like making a layup - when its the only shot you can take...

This too, is Battletech. Believe it or not, the Splatcat is not the worst case scenario- behold!

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/SRM_Carrier

60 SRMs, in a tiny little truck. It could hide behind have a building, or in a small trench, and disintegrate its target.

It's ok. I hate them too, until we port into Alpine. Then I just crack this huge smile and go ear hunting.

Yep! But unlike the splatcat, if you shot it once...it kinda blew up. Splats still are pretty stout incoming fire wise. If they were made more of paper, the hate for them would fall of majorly.

Reading comprehension? I clearly stated its not a problem with Splatcats' effectiveness, lack thereof at range, the problem is encountering them screws with how the game is played and how it kills fun when you have to deal with gimmicky SRM boats that play like morons and are still rewarded for it.

I usually feel the same way after one kills me almost instantly, even debate making posts like this

Then I step back, take a deep breath, and just realize that im pissed because im dead.

1v1 Is pretty much impossible against them, but with 12v12 and more large maps coming they may just fade away like most of the dual gauss hate did.

God I wish people would stop whining about splats. Seriously.

You'd think people would learn to stay further than 50 meters from them at all times.

And this goes back to the real piece of #@#$@#$ in the MWO world...

ECM. If theres ECM, suddenly that radar doesn't identify anything, including weapon load out. A splatcat under ECM can sneak up and blow it's load on your face.

Axe ECM and the Splatcat, StreakRaven and various other cheese mechs can be more easily dealt with.

Shoot them before they get to you. Problem solved. Honestly. If you are getting killed by a brawler its because you aren't aware of what is going on around you. Not saying you are bad or etc. But getting killed by a splat cat is completely avoidable.

Can't defend? Are you standing still 10m in front of them?

Here's how you beat splat cats every time... KEEP YOUR DISTANCE.
SRM are pretty useless over 200m if you're moving at all. At best they'll land a couple on missiles on target. Even a medium laser can hit to 270. If you're in a light, keep clear and mark the target for heavier ranged mechs or LRM support. Call the target to your team, everyone loves killing a splat cat and he'll be primary target quick smart.

Sure if you run around a corner and there's one there you're in trouble, but the same thing can be said if you run around the corner into a facemelter atlas build. There always going to be situations where you're boned and there's nothing you can do about it. That's war I'm afraid.

IDK. Splats are like that one hockey player that you HATE forever and would almost throw your beer at (except for wasting beer), until he gets signed to your team and then it's like YEAH MAN WRECK FACE. I like them as allies as much as I hate them as foes, because their attack is so painful. Fun buddy for a kiting scout though. Dragged a couple of squirrelers right into some face-alphas. It was fun. Except for the enemies.

Take the invisibility cloaks out of the game, and I agree with you completely!
