Gauss ilya isn't viable, since 3D does the job better.

Fascinating post and some great build help. And great discussion. I especially enjoyed the LRM points. I want to like LRMs, but they just aren't very useful right now. Hopefully they make a come-back some day!

Keep in mind that "useful in comp" and "useful in pubs" are two entirely different things. See also: PPC boats :)

Also, it's not called the pepsicat, as that makes zero sense.

Interesting read. I dont play 8 man, but I found it informative. I wonder how many of those play well in pug groups.

I would think some of the Atlas, the Cent, and of course the Cats.

If competitive play is basicaly brawlwarrior online, with no LRM support whatsoever, then things need to be looked at. More big maps, and a serious look at SRM balance compared to ballistics and lasers.

Also no Awesomes? Lame. Comp looks bleh this game until we see some changes.

It's a silly name. If anyone on my team uses it I'm going to give them an alpha in the ct rear so they can make some lame reference to pepsi heartburn.

I think that's Pepsid. Or PPCd.

Also, I think you can make the 4xPPC K2 slightly better by knocking the engine down to a 280 and putting on an extra DHS. It doesn't lose much speed and actually increases the armor a bit.

Great info. While I don't play RHoD, I do play with a competitive mindset and play some eights. These are exactly the same type of builds I tend to think up. MWO needs more sharing and openness in the competitive community.

Does not compute.... competitiveness <> sharing or openness...

Hi I'm Sun Tzu, I should give the secret of gunpowder to Genghis Khan because hes whining that I'm not being fair!

See how silly that is? One competitive advantage IS secrecy...

Strats can be secret. Builds are pretty freaking easy to figure out though. When I read someone's weapons loadout in game, there are only so many combinations of engines and upgrades that will facilitate them.

After all builds are so secret that most of the competitive teams are running a very limited numbers of variants using a very limited number of loadouts.

It's not like you're keeping some technology secret from everyone, when everyone already has access to that technology.

There are seldom if ever LRMs in competitive play. This doesn't mean that it is all brawls. While there certainly are a far share of brawls, ranged combat and sniping are probably just as prevalent if not more among the top teams. Jump snipers for example are quite popular at the moment. SRMs are king though when it does become a brawl simply because they have good damage/weight and most variants have missile hardpoints.

Hah, I've been using the 4xPPC K2 for awhile, especially while I was mastering the variant before they improved PPCs. Always enjoyed it more than the gauss cat. Mine is slightly slower, with a 280xl, but has one additional heat sink.

Also, it's not called the pepsicat, as that makes zero sense.

Call it the lightning cat, the Thorcat, the Odincat, etc, as it rains lightning bolts down on its enemies.

Small lasers are the best weapon in the game.

Personally I don't like the Stalker 5M build listed as it uses 5x SRM6's w/ Artemis IV, but one of the missle hardpoints is a NARC hardpoint which means your spitting out 25 missiles in the first volley, and then 5 single volleys after that. Just not an effective 5th SRM usage if your moving in and out of cover.

Personally we call the PPC Cat: Thundercat as well, PepsiCat just doesn't inspire anything positive.

I wonder what the drop-rate of the various variants are in 8-man, that would be a telling figure as well. I remember a few months back where 6 drops in-a-row where we faced 4 Cravens and 4 DDC's as the OPFOR, at least now it's down to around 25-30% ECM mechs.

I was wondering if indirect firing LRMs was possible with a tagger?
