As a raven pilot, especially a 3l pilot I have to accomplish a couple things to help my team win.

1. Scout early and find enemy movement...and report it

2. As a light my primary job is to eliminate the lights my presence brought in.

3. After the lights are gone I go and counter the DDC's and let the lrms go to town

4. If we are losing then I try and cap and run the other team around, try and separate them

5. Hunt down separated mechs and destroy them

So raven pilots what do you do to help your team....

Run around with a LB 10-X blowing up torso sections and weapons of enemy mechs. Run around with a Gauss, Ac/20 or PPCs to do the same. Also, ^what he said.

  • Drink several beers (the intoxicated weaving helps with the dodging)
  • Pilot raven at max speed 90% of the time.
  • move towards yellow and red spots on the map and make them blue
  • shoot and red triangles near my blue spots
  • Laugh drink more beer.

It makes me depressed that when piloting a raven, this step is such a non-issue. Eliminating any other light except another 3L is practically trivial.

Except when I use my beloved 3L, the best thing I can do to help my team is not to log in with my 2X or 4X...
Alternatively, Agent of Change' s point of view seems pretty good

Here is what i do.

1. I realize i have to much armor.

2. I then combine the armor and speed advantage with the lag shield.

3.Run around laughing

4. then i use my ECM combined with all the above and realize this is lame.

I don't think you are grasping the raven 3l experience:

Drink beer, go fast, don't afraid of anything, hysterical laughing = fun.

It's true I pilot my raven when I've given up on trying but it is by far the most fun mech for me to pilot because of fast.

What I do is equip other weapons than Streaks and apologize to my team for the fact that I'm probably going to get killed by cookie cutter Raven 3Ls with Streaks, or be unable to stop my team from getting killed by them. Then I go around pew pewing with my lasers, SRMs, ACs, MGs or whatever else, and die horribly as soon as the enemy Ravens find me.

Then I lie awake at night, hoping that I will one day be able to pilot my favourite mech again, and enjoy it.

I dropped with a guy last night one match that had the same mindset as you. Can't remember what his name was. I'm just mainly a pugger. All n all the outcome was the same as you discribed also. We got beat and he got tore up by the usual 3L but its not fun for him playin like that and I respected his choice. I dont pilot lights. Not my cup of tea

3. After the lights are gone I go and counter the DDC's and let the lrms go to town. = By taking more focused fire than to bring down an Assault due to god like armour (read hit box).

4. If we are losing then I try and cap and run the other team around, try and separate them. = See Fixed point 1.

5. Hunt down separated mechs and destroy them. = See fixed point 3.

Sometimes I forget to put missiles in my raven (it's lighter so it goes even faster) and i paint it red cause every one knows the red ones go faster.

When both teams are maintaining their position and engaging in a ranged shooting match I like to run straight through the opposing team in my 3L from random directions shooting at as many mechs as possible as I streak past to sow confusion and chaos. It is fun.

Gotta have dakka, but I need to ask.

Does it go fast, can it be painted red, and can it be piloted by a drunkard?

That's like the check list for most important things in life.

Well if I'm in a 3L I do whatever the heck I feel like doing because you can do that with almost no fear in a 3L.
