This subject isn't always about swear words people, its about the other inappropriate stuff that's said. I don't want my child's SX ED to come from the chat in game. I don't want them to understand half of what is typed into chat and I'm sure that other parents feel the same way. This is why I started this thread

http://mwomercs.com/...t-again-please/

so why would your childs sexual education come from a videogame unless you're not doing your job to educate your children yourself.

I'm having a hard time understanding why its the fault of other people besides parents or the child for bad behavior.

of course then again if you spend more time playing videogames than with your kids they're bound to turn out badly anyway.

that's a typical lazy parent for you. blaming others for the behavior of their children instead of taking responsibility themselves.

bad language isn't bad because of the word, it's bad because of the intent. Blaming the words for being bad diverts attention from the intent behind the user- but i digress.

I can use any words I want to **** talk you, because its not the words, but my intent and the projection I make onto you that gets you to take a swing at me, not the words themself. So instead of telling your kids ITS BAD DON'T DO IT, why not tell them why its bad instead of a "because i said so" or "just because" answer. Of course that would require not being lazy and would require you to use your brain for a change.

Perfect example, jerk off! You are one of the reasons we keep our kids from playing games like this. It's people like this PGI that keep me from spending more of my money to buy MC so that my kids can play or even let them! Give us the ability to turn off chat so we can keep people like this from causing more issues!

Is there any form of chat filter in MWO?

I had a game this morning where a player on the other team apparently didn't like having his arse handed to him and proceeded to tell us in very graphic terms what he thought about it.

Now I know people are disappointed when they lose but is there any way to filter out some of the inane and insulting drivel you receive from certain players?

No mainly because of people like Battlecruiser and Ghost Bear who don't get it at all! Who wouldn't understand it even if they had kids or do have kids because they are stuck on stupid! They complain louder and more obnoxiously then us parents so they win and the devs listen to their views and do nothing with ours, usually. I hope the Devs realize that they are loosing out on the next generation of players and the money we'd spend on them to play MWO with us.

So what would it save them to not create a Chat off feature? A group of loud mouthed, insulting, moral-less , thug wanna be's that I doubt bring enough money to the table to offset the money of having two more players from my house alone would bring!

When you are in game and someone is being a jerk you don't know it until you read it. And you have to read what your team is saying in a team based game. Unless of course you want less teamwork. On the other hand if you glance up and see ***** you know not to read the sentence.

Indeed. There are many players who don't play because of people like them.

We don't need a kiddy filter. We need an easier way to flat out BLOCK players from in a game. League for instance, allows you to easily do this by bringing up the scoreboard then clicking 1 icon button next to their name. But Piranha has never played League. They probably don't even know what it is. I wonder if they will at least give us the ability to do it with a command, like the old days before decent interfaces were invented. But even that would be an improvement to this.

You know, I'd be all for a profanity filter. Of course, I'd probably turn it off on mine and forget that it exists.

And I'd do that because I am a 21-year-old at college, and have no objection to swearing and strong language. I don't swear much myself (but I do on occasion), but I don't mind if other people want to express their opinion that way.

HOWEVER, I also acknowledge that there are people who might want to have those less pleasant terms out of their game, and they should be respected, not mocked like a number of people in this thread are.

...I just had a great idea! Make the profanity filter in game be programmable! So someone could say "Well I don't like words A, B, and C, so lets block those." Would be great for parents who don't particularly care themselves, but want to protect their children. And you can't make a half-baked free speech argument against that, because it's not censorship, it's individual blocking of what is sent to that individual's screen, willingly.

I like that idea. I like blutens too. We can add words to a file and have them blocked from our side.

We aren't placing the blame for stupid people on just those people, more likely their parents for not doing as good a job raising you as we are with our kids, or trying to do without your help. I fail to understand how you function btw...

No filter, just an OFF setting for Chat. Click Chat OFF! I don't need it since I only really drop while in TS3 and with my team. Also if I'm dropping with my kid/s I won't need to know what's going on, until the kids get good enough!

so, why exactly would a kid become more influenced by the internet than his own parents unless the parents do not make a strong impression on the child's life?

or maybe you just like sheltering your children from "the cold cruel world" so that when they get older they wind up ill equipped for the real world and end up doing something idiotic.

well you're on the internet arguing over some trivial garbage instead of spending time with your children. that says to me that you're not only oppressive by nature, willing to attack things you don't like, but that you're more interested in blaming others for their behavior than you are in actually being a responsible adult.

they're called logic and compassion. I can only hope the other influences on your child's life are great enough to overcome your irresponsibility as a parent. I had some bad ones and it's easy for me to spot miles away.

I'd have likely popped you in the face a few years back just for being stuck on stupid, but I have kids now and I try to be a responsible adult and a good example to them. My children have great morals, great behavior, and kind hearts as well because I keep them from learning life from people like you.

So you'd rather I open my children up to people like you, because you have such high morals and are such a great person? I have a feeling small children run from you on site, or they should.

People like you raise ill mannered children that run around the restaurant while my family sits and eats without causing issues. People like you are the reason we have so many lazy kids that grow up to be lazy adults that expect to be given everything. Kids raised by people like you walk into schools and shoot other people because people like you do not raise your children with any sense of morals and just expect them to raise themselves.

That's because my children are in bed, at 8:30pm. Which is what a responsible adult would do for their children, make sure they get their sleep before school. Some how I think your parents for got to do that with you.

Oh and yes, I'm arguing on the internet with the likes of you, a person I despise, in an attempt to keep people like you from being in chat while my son plays MWO or while any other child plays the game.

first off, I haven't done anything yet, but you've made it a point to paint me as an enemy because you view my disagreement with you as an attack on your right to exist.
as far as all that other stuff goes, if that is the case and not a delusion of your own manufacture, why are you so unconfident in your abilities as a parent that you attack things you don't like about the world? maybe you should just deal with it and accept the world isn't a friendly place.

you should stop projecting, I understand that you're just attacking me because I disagree with you, but the real problem lies with parents that shelter their children.

so instead of encouraging your children to responsibly go to bed on time for day jail, you force them to because "I SAID SO"? how will that raise them into responsible adults? Children have brains too, and telling them to do things without a reason better than "it's good for you" or "because i said so" will do nothing but make them reject what you have to say when they're old enough to resist. maybe even resent you.

again with wishing i didn't exist for the sake of your children. people like you are truly scary, with your self righteous ignorance, using your children and your "moral superiority" as an excuse to try and suppress different opinions- although still find amusement in letting your children play a game full of war and violence but being so adamant they don't learn bad language, a contradiction in itself.

but I digress. Regardless of how you attack me it won't change the fact that I'll still be here, and you simply cannot accept the lack of control in your life. You should be careful or your children may grow to resent you.

oh, and upon inspection how could you misspell the place where you live? or are you highly religious and that a pun?

You mean my view that no one has the right to make people listen to their moral, religious or political beliefs. Players in this game have no choice but to read what other people post or quit playing. If you were so smart you would know that behavior is constitutionally prohibited in real life (since you want to go there).

Your attempts to read between the lines r leading u to post nonsensical responses.

A real life chat filter? If u mean I believe no one has the right to make others listen or watch things offensive to them then yes. But that's law already.

The last part of your post is ridiculously out of touch with reality. As such i'm taking it as baiting and ignoring it.
