What's with all the concern re missile slots? If it's a fast mech, and it has missile slots, then those slots should be streaks to preserve tonnage. If they're streaks, then the mech will also need to have ECM to be able to reliably field them. I doubt the devs are making a heavier missile port/ECM scout hero mech, as much as I'd like them to.

If this isn't a "super 3L" it won't be worth getting, and if it is it'll tick everybody off. I don't suppose PGI can win with this one. Personally I'd love to see a Super 3L since I'm tired of hero mechs that aren't even as combat viable, let alone more so, compared to the c-bill variants. Yes, I'm even looking at you Myromets...

If it has ECM, great. If it doesn't, but it comes with a high-end XL engine and mounts missiles and lasers, it might still be appealing. Dunno though, I just got done grinding centurions and now I'm grinding ravens. Who has time to grind cicadas next? lol

If it does have an ECM and that's not been fixed...then yah we are pretty much done here. That would be a shame. I'm not even in the camp that think ECM is overpowered. The problem is that a LOT of people feel that way or can't handle it etc.

So even if it's a perception problem you're screwed because those people don't come back and this has the potential to cause damage to the dev/publisher and franchise. Wouldn't be the first time I guess.

Take a good look at the legs. One of the legs looks like it has duct tape. Its not symetrical like a high end hero with all the best gear..... I don't see a paint job.

This mech almost looks like frankenstined junk mech...... those headlights might be 4 huge flat head screw driver screws....trying to hold a masc 400xl engine....... SMALL LASERS

Think millenium falcon, mechwarrior version. Fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.

Look at the the paint on his antenna beenie is eaten away.....


That might be a REAL merc mech. those things bolted on it might be refrigerators and freezers to keep the food. he might have laundry hanging to dry. merc dude might live in his mech.

I hope the dash has beer cans n' stuff.



Edit: 1 ton might be a master bedroom, .5 ton bathroom.

but if it is they at least got that pay to win thing up front while it was still beta and I havent dropped more than what I payed to get in for it on this game.

We are assuming it has ECM capability, why exactly? I highly doubt it will be able to equip ECM. If I wanted an ECM Cicada I would use my 3M. The missiles are the only thing that appears truly unique. Without being able to see the entirety of the legs I cannot guess at whether it has jump jets or not. I have yet to see good reason why PGI would put ECM on it. I also have yet to see any evidence in their established patterns that it would have ECM. Wait and see before making into the new bogyman.

"Pay to Win" means paying for something which is strictly better, as in better in every conceivable category, than the best (X) which can be obtained naturally in the game. In this case, theoretically, the CDA-3M.

"Pay to Sidegrade" means paying for something special which has unique advantages over anything the game has to offer naturally, but which also has disadvantages or lacks some features of the ordinary machine on tap. In this case, the CDA-X5 would (theoretically) have ECM and two missile hardpoints ideal for Streak launchers, closely mimicking the Raven 3L's notorious Craven configuration. Beyond being a hilarious "Suck on that, forum whiners!" from Piranha, the 'Mech would, thusly, not have six energy hardpoints for a Destroyer-style laserstorm, or carry ballistic hardpoints for experimental/comical Noisy Crickets.

It would be pay to win if it carried the four torso-mounted energy hardpoints of the 3M, the torso ballistic slot, and the arm-mounted energy and torso missile slots of the CDA-3M, rendering the 3M strictly inferior to the X5 as there is nothing the 3M does that the X5 cannot do. Instead, even the ****-poor (but ripe for comedy) 3C variant will have options available to it that the X5 does not. This is called "Pay to Sidegrade", "Pay to be Different", or "Pay for A Change of Pace".

Besides. Really, what will it hurt if it is a slightly fatter 3L? We've already got scads of 3Ls (and a noticeable count of 2Ds) to deal with, I don't see the occasional X5 making a big difference in the number of fast ECM Streakers causing grief, and realistically the X5 here won't be any better at it than a 3L* anyways. What's the big deal?

*unless it has 4E/2M with ECM AND jump jets. Then it will be freaking awesome, I will buy the **** out of it, and the forums will require Level 2 flame retardants to venture within half a mile of.
