So..
- Yen Lo Wang: canon character, canon name, canon paint job, canon configuration with minor changes to account for no melee weapon
- Ilya Muromets: completely made up by PGI
- Fang & Flame: completely made up by PGI
- The Death's Knell: canon character and name... And i think the paint job too...Not sure if the fact that it is a Commando is canon, but its loadout is definitely made up by PGI
- Pretty Baby: canon character, chassis, and name. Loadout is made up by PGI
- X-5: completely made up by PGI
X-5 Happened FOR REAL. It might not be in the mechwarrior bible but it was there when it all went down about 1998. The X-5 was ultimately destroyed by cheat jenners who figured out how to bypass the tonage and give themselves 99 armor. But in the FIGHT itself although up against unbeatable enemies it delivered enough butt kicking to qualify as a hero.

Probably not, but even if it was it wouldn't break the game as much as people think it would. It wouldn't be a better Raven 3L. What most people don't know about the Cicada is it has 1 point of armor on it's arms because they're worthless. Like the Centurion's left arm.
Forcing it to have to armor it's arms like that 2B variant, this thing isn't going to be going 151 kph with 4 mediums and 2 streaks. It's going to either have less armor, be slower, or have less weapons. It can't have everything like the 3L does.
But what I am more confused on the speculation of it having ballistics. Why would they make a hero mech with ballistics when there is already a Cicada with 4 ballistic hardpoints which sucks?
IF (that is a big if) this thing has ECM, then it would instantly make the 4M obsolete. This makes it P2W because the cicada-4M is currently being used by competition teams to back-up their lights when they want to run a faster team. Any cicada with streaks and ECM would be exponentially better than the 4M.
Nonetheless, I believe the devs wouldn't screw up game balance THAT badly. If they do, I think it sends a pretty clear message where this game is going.

carry on.
EDIT: Also, would be awesome if it packed ECM. It won't, but man I would love that.
LOL, WUT!? I got to hear the story about this one.

It's the 3M, but more importantly, I completely disagree. The cicada cannot have as much firepower as a 3L and go the same speed due to the increase gyro weight at 305+. At 300 or less weight, there are many, many options, however, the UAC 5 is as good as or better than 2 SSRM2's for killing everything but lights. So, IMO, it would be a side grade to the 3M if it had ECM. If not, then it's just a crappier version of the Treb 3C with the same speed and less armor.
Edit: I ran the numbers...it really is the same speed with less armor, but 1 additional ton for weapons/heat sinks. However, with a similar loadout, it's able to get an extra 6-7 kph or so out. This is assuming an XL 360 in the Treb. Regardless, it's basically the same thing if it doesn't have ECM or jumpjets.

The strider is a omnimech that was built around the chassi of a Cicada, and it carrys Missile hardpoints.
Maybe this is the experimental prodecessor to the strider?

I like the way that you think, but sadly, at the point in time of March 3050 Omni technology is completely unknown in the inner sphere.
If anything the X in the X5 is for a non omni variant working with tech that was recovered from the Helm Memory Core.

To be fair, at this point in time, pulse lasers, CASE, Gauss Rifles were also completely unknown to the IS...at least in the novels...but somewhere one of the game designers decided to retroactively add them into the canon sooner...So why not have PGI do the same thing? Oh, wait...

It is just an interesting bit of lore. Actually the X5 builds on that. It would mean that there were at the least prototypes that the designers of the decidedly missile heavy Strider could point to as proof of concept to justify their loadout choices. And since you have a 'Mech, all the known variants of which only possess energy and ballistic weapons used as the basis for a 'Mech that uses missiles in all standard configurations there is a bit of gap from an R&D standpoint that needs to be filled.

Helm Memory Core. There is a reason why the AS7-K (in full production by 3050) has a Guass Rifle, CASE, ER Large Lasers, Medium Pulse Lasers, an XL engine and an AMS system.

They are holding off on MASC implementation until they fix the netcode well enough to handle it, so I seriously doubt that it will have MASC unless it has a severe engine restriction so that with the MASC on, it won't go much faster than 150 kph.

Yes, like I said retroactively added by game designers. Helm Memory Core is from the novels. Novels is also where Natasha Kerensky (a Clanner) had to explain to Phelan Ward Kell what is a pulse laser and what a Gauss Rifle is for that matter. Yen Lo Wang was also refitted with both of these on Outreach thanks to the Dragoons. The Draconis Combine could have been exposed to them sooner, thanks to a SNAFU shipment by Comstar of their own mechs to help bolster the DC for the War of 3039.
First mention of them in the novels is Blood Legacy first mentioned in TT is with TRO:3050 of course the TRO while titled 3050 is actually set in 3052. Lastly don't believe everything Sarna.net has to say, I can see a lot of mistakes in the Clan Invasion section alone when comparing it to Lethal Heritage.

I see your Blood Legacy and raise you one Operation: Excalibur. My point was it was there. And this is an X model so it is likely to all kinds of nifty and uncommon features.

The real question is what will be the next hero mech?
The choices: Jenner, Raven, Spider, Hunchback, Trebuchet, Catapault, Jagermech*, Atlas, Stalker
The most likely choice is the Jenner or Hunchback.
The Trebuchet is still new, the Jagermech might surprise us (I didn't see the Ilya Muromets coming). The Atlas, Raven and Catapult are all still wildly popular so they are less likely.
Realistically that leaves the Spider (still kinda newish, but less likely) and Stalker as sub choices to the Jenner and Hunchback.
I dunno.
