The current override shutdown command forces you to guess when you are about to heat. Which, in my experience, is impossible. Please either consider switching it to a toggle where if you heat you just take damage or revert it back to the way it was before.

The only conceivable way it could be usable now is to run a script to constantly press the 'o' key.

And in other news I only have two hands so the default binding to 'o' is slightly lolzy.
Same with ECM lol J wtf really?? why not c?

You should know what the heat thresholds of your weapons are, so it shouldn't really be guessing, it's just firing your weapons without checking your heat before.

The default binding of "o" is not convenient because in those situations, you usually don't have the time or memory to move your hand to press o really quickly.

I would like to see an adjustable time period where I can choose Override to stay in effect for 10 or 15 or 20 seconds, etc.

This isn't a console game. Consider rebinding your keys to a more convenient location.

I am probably the #1 proponent of the current Override Shutdown mechanic.

Have no idea when you're' going to overheat? Good, you deserve to die because you can't do simple math. At match start, do an Alpha. Subtract that number from 100. The third number is the number at which you should never do another alpha! If you want to figure out the individual heat for each weapon group, do so. I do it.

If you really need to get that last hit but not risk shutting down and leaving yourself exposed, press Override Shutdown, take your shot, then run like hell while you cool down.

I rebound Override Shutdown to Left Shift. Shutdown/Startup is F. It's really awesome.

Here's a thought - you overheat when you pull the trigger

Yea, as many have said, if you are guessing, then you are certainly doing it wrong. Any pilot worth their salt will have a pretty accurate estimate on how much heat their loadout generates and how fast that heat dissipates. Personally, I have killed many a mech due to getting in that last alpha via override. It is one of the best feelings in the game killing someone when you are in override mode. To reiterate a suggestion, when a match starts, shoot an alpha into the ground. Look at how much heat you generated. Now you know how many you can get before reaching 100%. Also, rebind your override key. "O" is terrible.

Any game where you can rebind keys should have zero players pressing the wrong buttons.

Overrides works great for me.

Plus I'm a genius and I've figured out how to map it to "E" so it's right beside target ("R") and forward ("W").

I'm not telling how though, don't want PGI to ban me for h@xz0rzing.

I've been playing my Awesomes, high heat energy boats, and I like the new overheat mechanic. I have exploded my own head getting one more alpha in on the last enemy mech, killing myself whilst simultaneously winning the match. It was glorious.

I rebinded override to left shift and have loved using it, and please don't say you have to guess when your going to overheat.. Just pay attention.

I love the new overheat mechanic. If I'm the last member on my team, and I have like 3-4 mechs bearing down on me, impacts rocking my mech, there's nothing like switching on the override, and just blasting away trying to take those ******* down with me in a blaze of glory.

I generally do not override since the change. The biggest reason is that I've gotten better at heat management and will generally not go over the limit, unless I'm certain the last shot will finish a guy off. Second, with all elite unlocks, it helps a great deal to keep the heat down.

I would like there to be a "Shutting Down" notification via Cranky Betty, plus a 2 second grace period before shutting down that gave me a chance to override it. Maybe when heat is building up and it's going to surpass 100% I get "Shutting Down" and as my heat is still building I have time to reach over and press 'O' . 'O' FOR OVERRIDE THE SHUTDOWN!
I don't see the "heat warning" crap. I don't see the little tiny heat bar in the side. My HUD doesn't flicker when I'm getting super hot or anything.

RANT MODE ENGAGED:

Quote

I DO NOT WANT IT TO START WITH " Warning: Shutting Down" So many other things start with "Warning" you just wanna punch that crap outta her and just spit out what's happening! JUST SAY. "Targeted."!! FFS!!!!!! OR JUST SAY "Incoming Missiles"!!! I dunno what's up with this WARNING PREFIX BS

Rant mode: Disabled.

so I will have time to reach over and press the 'O' button to override the sequence BEFORE I shut down. Does me **** all when I get a heat warning that isn't even in the my vision, and without audible warning I shut down.

Or you know, watch and maintain your heat.

Also if you overheat I'm pretty sure you can now press 'p' to have the same effect the old override did.

As for the 'o' postitioning, you do know you can change your keybindings in the options. If O doesn't work for you change it to something else.

Tag should be a toggle switch, and override shut down should be a toggle switch.

At the start of every match, Alphastrike into the sky and note your heat %. Now take that number and subtract it from 100. That is your maximum heat threshold to fire without overheating.

I rebound override to V

I just wish they'd set it like it was before so that the manual restart while in auto-shutdown was the override key. Using the power key leads to a manual shutdown right after start-up if the auto-restart has already begun. At least that's what seems to be happening when I press P once after a shutdown, restart and immediately shutdown again. I've died from this more than once and I know I wasn't spamming the key.

Override doesn't work when your Mech shuts down, usually from misjuding how much heat you're at.

So yeah, it's kinda pointless.

Most of your shutdowns are probably from a single shot pushing you from below the warning to shutdown, since you only get the warning of you're already riding the heat limit and it doesn't account for the heat your weapons will put out in a single shot, even if it's not an alpha.
