What Awesome Variant?

I didn't like the 4 energy/3 missile variant as much as the 7 energy.
When I played them the most is when they could all run fast earlier in beta.
So on c-bills I'd get the 9M, 8R and 8Q.
If I was going to buy the PB, it would be PB, 9M and 8R.
But like others have said stalkers are just plain better and D-DCs are better yet.
So I'm not recommending Awesomes at all while the drop rules are what they are.
If they ever go to a straight tonnage vs tonnage on drop, I'd like to play them again.
But getting 80 tons and the opposing team getting a D-DC is too much advantage to give up.

The PB is incredibly fun and very capable. Load it up with a big (xl360-380) and then as much pulse laser, SRM, DHS and endo as you can. Run thru, or better yet behind the pack and cause havoc. Use the torso twist to spread the damage to your arms (turn side on) then high tail it outer there when they realise your there. Hero bonus is a bonus. This style of play is very fun and also quite challenging to master.

Stay away from PB, 9M is superior to it in every way. Some will argue 5 extra kph is worth it isn't. The hardoints are just unworkable. It's the worst 30 $ you can waste.
Guess you've never tried to run PB with 3 SRM6's before...

40 point long range alpha is great for cockpitting opponents, ER's have a nice close range punch, the regular PPC's only generate about 10% heat each fire so when you're under pressure you can still keep up a steady stream of thunder.
My 9M looks like this:

It's great fun and a real game-changer when played right.
I have an 8R for giggles, it's not all that great, but I either have it with SRMs as mentioned earlier in this thread or like this:

It waddles about quite slowly but packs a big punch.

Curious why you would put BAP an a PPC boat?
Also, I find running 3xERPPCs with 22 DHS to be a bit of a stretch, I wouldn't want to try with only 20. Drop the BAP and another half-ton of leg armor (45 each is plenty imo) and you can fit 22.

320XL
1 ERPPC in RA (extreme range, shock, and anti-ecm)
3 LLAS (primary)
1 SRM6 (finisher)
1 MPLAS (backup)
20 DHS
464 armor
OR
same but replace the CT LLAS with 2 SRM4 (also requires dropping the head MPLAS and 2 DHS).
I change the two loadouts up all the time, and it's hard to say which is better. Obviously, on long maps the 3 large hold sway while on tight maps the 14 SRMs. But both work everywhere. I've yet to find any mech with performance that so matches what I want.
This week I'll finally earn enough for an XL370, which will let me have essentially the same equipment (more DHS in the engine, thus allowing enough open space for Endo) but with a significant increase in speed and agility. As far as any XL comments, I've found that experience has taught me to be decent enough at damage avoidance throughout entire combats so as to make side torso engine damage still a threat, but a far less common one.
The 8Q works well too with a 300XL, 2 ERPPC for exteme range, and varieties of lasers for mid and close. As others have said, while boating PPCs has its moments (gods help us with the coming of the coolant flush module...), consistent dps with 1 or 2 cannons that can be fired nearly non-stop is not to be ignored.

STD360 (80 kph)
LL
3 MLs
3 SRM4s (2T)
17 DHS
Endo + FF
Works surprisingly well. Runs a bit hot, but it's weird running around with both torsos blown off. I was mixing it up with an AI splat Cat last night and he couldn't kill me, LOL! I think he ran out of ammo. It sure can tank more damage than before, but the big issue is heat dissipation.
I wonder how big of a STD engine I can fit in the PB?

See what I did thurr.
No but seriously, stalkers are superior to awesomes in pretty much every way. I would recommend getting a 3F, its my favorite assault chassis.
Honestly, for the life of me I cannot find a loadout I'm satisfied with for any of the awesomes I've owned.

AWS-8R
Only debate is whether to change to 2MPL to LL for some extended range.
I am really liking the new artemis flight path, although it does cause the LRM 60 barrage to hit in 2 waves.

STD275
4 PPCs
20 DHS
400 armor
I've been playing the hell out of this lately, and all I can say is 4 PPCs > 3 PPCs.

I'm actually thinking of doing something similar with my 9M (and PB). They're both so much less durable than my 8R, that I hardly play them anymore. It looks like I can get a solid brawling build into PB with a STD 340, and almost the same loadout I currently run on my 9M with a 335... So I'm trading off around 8-10 kph for each. Not wild about that... But it's a lot more difficult to keep your shoulders attached nowadays. Too many PPC snipers around.
