I think Alpine peaks has potential, but right now it sucks. It is full of glitches. Stone textures morph when coming closer and look like they are liquid. Even with assaults i slide down steep hills in unnatural ways, being way faster than i ever could be, often drifting to the right or left in the progress. On the other hand, i can climb the steepest mountains with ease, as long as there is rock beneath my mechs feet. If those problems could be worked out, i would really be a fan of this map, especially when 12on12 matches are introduced.

River city night. Until they don't fix the reflection from the buildings I have to go around with thermal all the time. Plus, I often get into infinite streaks of river city nights and I literally go mad.

About Alpine.. I actually like it. Although I think a slight reduction in its scale could be a nice choice. As it is now it's too big and you use only one fraction of the total area.

River City Night is the point at which I start screaming at the screen. River City during the day isn't much better.

Alpine is wonderful and awesome and the best map ever. Every map should be as big and wonderful as Alpine instead of the claustrophobic clusterfrags of River City and the like. Anyone who says Alpine is horrible is wrong and their opinion on the matter is invalid because it does not coincide with mine which is the only opinion that matters. So there.

More big maps, please. Bigger than alpine!

I love Alpine, even though I have only played it a couple of times. (only four times in two weeks!)

I don't mind River City night as long as we don't get it too often. I usually use thermal vision in the beginning and then switch to night vision. I actually like night vision, at least more than thermal.

I hate Frozen City because of the snowstorm. Because I really loathe thermal optics and that map can be horrible in visuals.

River city night. It's just river city day but without the option of turning off thermal vision.

Forest colony because I can't see **** on that map and heat vision is less effective on it as opposed to on river city night.

River City Night. This game is gorgeous right up until they make me look at it through a hideous blurry blue screen filter. If they introduced a halfway decent mech floodlight I could use so I could stick to eyeballs, I wouldn't hate it so much but as it stands it's an eyesore.

River City Thermal... er... night.

The normal night vision is horrendous and I can't see anything with it. I've met a handful of people on Teamspeak who say they try to use night vision on RCN, but every else uses thermals all the time.

So basically it's not even another map... it's just river city, but force everyone to be in thermal.

There you go.

I notice already the unpopular maps are the ones where you can't see properly, and are forced into thermals (RCN, and Frozen City daytime / haze / snowstorm).

Caustic.

It's not the heat. That can get annoying, but I don't really mind. It's the disgusting lack of cover. Too many places where you can get caught out in the open with no chance to get under cover before getting chewed up. And the slopes seem custom-made for LRMs. An LRM boat or a spotter catches sight of you and on most maps, if you're playing smart, there's some kind of cover you can get behind to block the incoming barrage. On Caustic, the tops of the hills are rounded and the slopes seem to perfectly conform to the diving angle on the missiles, so it often doesn't matter where you move, especially now with the decay module. Even Alpine is better, despite the wide open spaces. At least the cover that is there works as cover.

I actually like RCN. It looks great in standard vision, and there's actually a lot of places you can see without enhanced vision. But I guess mainly it's because I'd been playing 90%+ in thermal long enough before it came out that I can see just fine and plenty of people can't. ;) The only thing I dislike about it is something it shares with Caustic. It too often turns into a base race because of the large obstruction in the middle. For the trolls, you can stuff your suggestions to defend my base into the nearest convenient ****** orifice. I dislike games devolving into base races when my team wins the race just as much as when w lose it. If I wanted to play a non-combat game, I'd load up a non-combat game.

I never figured out what part of that map being substantially brighter and clearer made it night. :D

The sun not being up makes it night... Kinda the defining characteristic of night.

It's not brighter, just clearer. If you don't understand the brightness, you must never have been out in the snow at night. I've kind of been wondering lately if the white haze in Frozen City Day is actually supposed to be snow (blizzard) or if it's supposed to represent the glare off all the snow/ice on the ground (snow blindness).

Alpine needs help.
Could use some more clutter
there are some areas you get stuck horribly in
and some areas should not be passable without JJs. You're in a freaking atlas.. you're not known for your maneuverability, quit walking/running up the 70 degree slope.

But map I like the least, Frozen City (one side gets made almost absolutely blind.. and the other- not so much,)

I hate Alpine.
The map is nice and the scale is impressive, but there are just to wide open expanses for a short range Mech to use safely. I cannot wait to have the funds to buy a medium or heavy Mech. Long range helps survival.

I'd navigate with night vision, but when the brawl kicks in I'll flip on the high beams and blind you ;D

Alpine is an awesome map and by far my favorite, and Caustic being my second favorite.

The worst map to me hands down is Frozen City, followed by Frozen City Night.

And given the choice I actually would only play on 4 maps, Alpine, Caustic, River City and River City night.

RCN for me. It often ends up in "oops, we all missed each other, might as well cap". I think I understand what the devs were trying to do (more realistic variety) but it's just a lot less fun than the others. I got alpine 3x in a row yesterday and I don't hate that map, even though I run a brawler/mugger heavy. Lots of places *cough mountaintops* to ambush others while they are distracted firing their LRMs.

I hate River City Night most, followed directly by Frozen City (too bright for my eyes).

Problem i am doomed, i must play both maps over and over again.
