So this seems to be a pretty controversial issue already so I just wanted to ask what you guys (and girls?) think about it. I'm going to wait until they actually release them to judge but on the surface do you think they will make or break the game? How do you think PGI should go about this to prevent a P2W game?

Consumables

An extension to the module system is being introduced on March 19th. Players will now be able to equip a variety of consumable module items. Upon release players will have access to Coolant Flush, Air Strikes, and Artillery Strikes. These new items will be available for C-Bill and MC purchase. Details will be forthcoming in an upcoming Command Chair post here www.mwomercs.com/forums/forum/102-command-chair/.

Info can be found here.

Depends on the implementation. If they refresh 1/match, gimmicky but not unbalancing. (Like modules haha.) If they are gone, then you might start having "gold ammo" or grind treadmill problems.

EDIT: But yeah, I don't think I have enough info to have an opinion either way :D

So you think they should only be available with c-bills?

Great. It just went from FTP to PTW. I support the game via MC purchases. I am NOT cool with wankers being able to coolant flush b/c they have access to mommies credit card.

Meant c-bills not MC.

Had to vote I Don't Know, since until we see numbers (and better, see them in practice) we can't really know for sure.

My inclination is to make them be single-use per-mission modules that are super pricey (in GXP and C-Bills) rather than consumables. The most you could do then is one artillery strike and one air strike (using two module slots, and having spent the 40k GXP needed to unlock them and the 16 million c-bills needed to buy them).

I'd also say let the Command Console buff both modules somehow. Faster time-on-target, tighter accuracy, or whatever.

You CAN pay with mc, you can also pay with CBills.... Don't get so mad so quick before you even see how they work.

Coolant Flush does not belong in this game.

Most guys on here are over 30 so I think they use their own credit card...unless they still live with their mom which really would not be all that surprising. :D (kidding).

I like the idea. It means variants with extra module slots are much better weighted against those without, so poorer variants have some burst potential. If you're talking WOT, I'd equate it much more to having fire extinguishers or repair kits than gold ammo. We shall see how it pans out at any rate.

Not complaining. I'm just wondering what people think about the idea.

they removed repair and rearm for a reason

now they are adding essentially the exact same mechanic with different equipment

so its either Golden BBs or the equipment sucks and nobody wants it

In general, not a bad idea.

If bought for MC, or MC Only in particular, then we have "Gold Ammo" and P2W, period. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

If prohibitively expensive in CBills... we have achieved "Gold Ammo" and P2W, period.

And Coolant Flush makes me sad, confused, and angry.

But I gave up having any input on how this game turns out long ago.

NO.

Provided there are no MC-only consumables, allowing them to be purchased with MC or c-bills is fine. In that case, MC is just a shortcut that helps PGI make some money. I don't have a problem with shortcuts as everything is still available via c-bills if you're willing to put in the grind. (This is my beef with the Hero mechs. Halve the MC cost so that they're actually reasonable, then add a c-bill cost that's double what it should be. So yeah, you can buy them with c-bills, but it's a hell of a grind to do so. Much easier to just pay the MC and no risk of pay2win.)

MC-only consumables would be perilously close to pay2win. One could easily argue that they would be pay2win because if they aren't, no one would ever buy them and implementing them would be pointless.
