It sounds like the majority of the posters are misinterpreting what the OP meant. There is a difference between focus firing down an enemy and then there's purposely hiding and waiting until both the enemy and teammate is almost dead and then firing to get the last money shot kill.

It does not help your team to purposely leave your buddy hanging, not firing a single shot so that you can "save ammo" and not take any damage, and then jump in for that final killshot.

I think I know what you're saying, I too was concerned that some players might hang back and let a team mate get shot half to death just so they can try and jump in at the last moment for the savior reward.

Kind of like this...

That sums it up.
Please steal my kill. It might keep me alive. It might make our team win. That's all that counts.

Is it me or has the intelligence level dropped on the forums today. I pop into a thread only to feel dumber with each click. I know its my own fault but really I mean come on...

Why,Why would you be upset at all for someone killing a guy that is trying to kill you? Please inform me the reasoning behind being upset in any way.

ok so i was playing the commander role and im with the team in the main fight but i notice a mech spot over this hill. (bear with me) so as im slowly walking over the "hill" I see this junner getting pumeled, and it only had one leg. so as i reach the top its in the process of limping circles around this centurion and firing lazers at it. (i was in preety baby) so i just unload my lazers as im targeting it then when my lazers stopped i fired my short range streak missles, and i got the kill. yes the jenner probly did most the damage, but did he complain i stole the kill, or say "i did all the damage", no he said "thanks for the help sir." true story. (he was one of those people who like to get in charecter when there is a commander, saying stuff like roger that, yes sir, and yes "thank you sir".)
So yes now i think you get the point.

Sorry to interrupt all the name calling and whatnot, but I have a question about this "savior bonus". Does anyone know how it will actually work? Does this mean if I pump a shot into a spider with a blown JJ I will immediately become worth more points to the enemy for the rest of the round? Or do I actually have to be physically in the act of attacking the enemy? That is, am I only worth the points while my lasers are firing, or my missles/projectiles are in the air on their way to the target? Or do I have to have him (only?) target locked?

Savior Kills: Upon killing an enemy Mech. If that enemy had been attacking a teammate who has a critical component that is 50% health or lower within the last 10 seconds you will be awarded 7500CBills, and 150XP.

Agreed, I had already typed this before I read yours, so I'll just paste it here.

I'm not concerned about "kill stealing" where someone else in the fight get's the kill shot. But I think the Op has a point as it applies to something I'll call for purposes of this conversation "kill sniping." I'm referring to the guys that are hiding behind the hill, preserving their KDR until a target is near dead and then popping up to take the kill shot before hiding again. Since having teammates get beat up before killing their attacker is the primary way to earn this award, then this is exactly the type of behavior it could encourage.

I love taunting my buddies in a friendly manner about KS, and when I am in my Jenner D and I score 4 kills on 224 damage I shout to the heavens that I am nothing but a dirty kill stealer, otherwise I don't care. I just want to win and have fun doing it preferably with hard fought matches.

But honestly, this is very unlikely. I know there are some trolls and douchey types, but in my 3000+ matches I haven't personally seen this type of behavior all that often. I have only rarely even seen intentional TK's for that matter.

Its been said before, and I'll say it again. There is NO killstealing in MWO. You aready got more c-bills for an assist than a kill, so in effect you are both more rewarded in a "savior" scenario. I know this challenges peoples preconceived notions about the mechanics of modern "shooters," but I, for one, would like to applaud PGI for this. Its a wonderful mechanic that actually encourages teamwork to bring down enemies. I really fail to see how any of this is anything but positive... ;)

Sidenote, I'm not sure if this is intended, but I killed an enemy today who was fighting 3 critically injured teammates and got the savior bonus 3 times for that one kill. 27,500 c-bills and 500 xp for one kill? yes please!!!

If you can get a team kill and a savior kill with the same volley, it would be pretty sweet.

the manners were not ideal... but he is right.

Its a team based game... nobody should care about his kdr .. just the w/l ratio....
even in the most competitive gameplay

In battles in this game there is not enough time to sit back and evaluate if any one mech is the one who is about to kill another. There sure is no standard as to who gets dibs on a kill. If it is the enemy and I am in range I fire up on it. If I am coming up on a battle when I get in range of the enemy, I fire upon it. If I get the kill I get the kill. If I am engaged with an enemy and someone else comes along and kills it, then the enemy has one less mech.

I would say the minority of players aren't firing something at the enemy. I've had too many matches with noobs that at the end of a match and were all dead the match might as well have been 3 on 8 in favor of the other team. Please come and steal my kill and lets win the match.

Actually it seems that you/i/we can get savior kills without killing the enemy mech. I did have 3 SavKills with no kills. Not that i am complaining, the extra XP/credits is more than welcome, but maybe i'm misunderstanding the description.
What i understand is this : if i KILL a mech that is attacking a critically wounded ally --> i get Savior Kill bonus.
What i got in game : 1, 2 or 3 Savior Kill bonuses with no kills, or with 1 kill mostly.

Well, i hope it is not a bug and it will stay like this forever :)

I do that alot, it is called using cover to keep the lrms and snipers from getting me, I pop out, fire at the enemy and evade enemy fire, sometimes I get the kill. That is probably why I end up with teams that get rolled, they are the ones that all go out in the water on forest colony and get sniped and lrmed and then whine about premades, and OP weapons. LOL

Won't make a rat's *** difference for PUGS who sit way perched on high points on the back of the map waiting for 4mans to do all the real fighting before they move in....

Unless they just peel off for a base cap without telling anyone and thus avoid fighting altogether.

I've seen premades sit back and let the noobs wear down the enemy before attacking. Then roll in, blast the weakened opfor and crow about how good they are and that their teammates suck. :)

Yup. In summary:

Try to shoot all the red ones.
Try not to shoot any of the blue ones.
Say "Oops!" if you shoot a blue one that comes between you and a red one.
Say "Oops!" if you get shot coming between a blue one and a red one.

A team Centurion was going toe to toe vs an enemy Awesome the other day. They were both really going at it in a corner (the game went into one hell of a brawl with friendlies and hostiles all over the place, pretty cool in my opinion). I came around the bend and saw that the Cent was at 57% while the Awesome was at 74% if I remember correctly. I immediately unloaded on the Awesome and went to stand between my ally and him. Before I got in between them, the Awesome was taken down and all the Centurion said was "OMG THX U!!" No such thing as Kill Steal in this game; only team sweat, blood, and effort to live and fight another day :D
PS: In another game someone did the same for me and boy was I freakin grateful (he/she actually put their Catapult in between me and the enemy in order for me to back off and recover (the player killed the enemy mech); I was critical in the torso's and internal on an arm). Mega Kudos to that player :)
