This concept was the reason why I left WoT and WoWP - if they want their game to have item purchasable for MC that improve your mech, I'm sure there will be players willing to pay for them.

I won't.

Hardcore battletech fan. I spent about 250$ a week spending 10$ per match playing in the tesla pods at virtual world in the early 90s.

Fsck p2w consumables.

If this is in game, I am out.

You have spent 250$ on this game to date per week? This is a Beta. You know that right?

You're complaining about the ability to dump 35% of your heat once in a match? Specifically an ability matched by free modules that do not stack with the paid module.

This is more asinine than people complaining about the YLW being P2W.

This is no more P2W than a player who grinds more can afford better mechs.

Sensationalism at its finest.

Heres some cool alternatives that you can try for free while IGP rethinks their stance:

http://star-conflict.com/

https://www.planetside2.com/

http://blog.dota2.com/

Theres tons more out there, some were even clear about what direction they are heading with monetization from the get go.

PlanetSide 2? Seriously? ^_^

the best way we can show PGI our disagreement is by boycotting those tier 3 MC only modules...

But of course, there are always people who'll do anything to have the advantage so I doubt calling for a boycott will work...

He was talking about dropping major scratch back in the day on Tesla pods, the arcade-shell version of MW.

Reading is Fundamental.

IGP (Infinite Game Publishing; the money men behind PGI) are testing the waters with this move as to how tolerant their customer base are towards these sorts of P2W mechanics.

QFT. I will play this game until this money gouging starts, at that second, I stop and will not come back until it goes away. I hope others do the same.

I don't cry on the forums all that often, and I feel sad spending my 1000th post doing so, but hopefully our wallets talking will save the game.

I'm bumping this; hopefully you will too.

The take home message is this:

If we do not economically penalize IGP for introducing the concept of Pay To Win in this game, then they will be economically justified to add more Pay To Win features. They would be foolish not to. User feedback and outrage doesn't matter a whit if the money continues to roll in contrary to the outrage.

Sit out. Don't buy the hero mech. Don't buy more MC. Let IGP know that you won't tolerate the introduction of Pay To Win in Mechwarrior Online, and that you'll take action to prove as much.

I'd like to think this is a move on IGPs part and that they're waiting to see if there is going to be any profit in doing this. They'd be stabbing both the developer and the founders in the back, by basically forcing them to pay money in order to keep enjoying what is a free game and in the end no one will be playing. Some of the crazy troll chatter needs to stop and some constructive critique needs to go on, especially from founders. They paid up front to see this game come to fruition, so they might as well be share holders at this point.

A week? Between the doubletalk back when about 3rd person view, the whole "ECM is fine...oh wait, now that we really look at it it does need work but we'll just flail around ineffectually for a while" then all the blatant political nonsense about this latest teabagging by PGI, I'm thinking more like uninstall and move on.

It's now pretty obvious that the future of this game is an endless string of "Okay, we know we said we'd never [insert feature, fad, P2W, whatever], but..." so I'm having a hard time coming up with any reason not to just jettison the Duke Mecham Forever™ crew and hope someone else gets a license and gives it a real go once PGI borks their version beyond all recognition.

-sigh-

If this gets borked, publishers won't come close to the B-tech franchise for maybe another 10 years. They won't look at WHY it didn't work, just see that it was a game in a niche market that bombed.

No doubt. Doesn't change my stance one whit...I reckon I'll live that long, and have plenty to do in the meantime.
