Artillery + Air Strike X 8 = Instant Death Anywhere?

Is anyone else really concerned about the gameplay implications of artillery+airstrike being called onto a mech at will? Particularly if an entire team is doing it?
Seems that a team stocked on these would be able to call down instant death onto any mech of their choosing - particularly if you can force it into hiding with LRM or LR direct fire barrages.
I hope that it'll be tied to the command console - if not done properly this could be wide open to abuse. Hopefully they'll post more details on this.

So do I. But if 8 mechs are using them on a mech at once? And they're equipped with 3-4 tier three arty or air strikes?
These make sense as a command chair once per match callable skill. As an anyone can use consumable this could be game-breaking.

Only you have an entire team of D-DCs, -3Ls and YLW...
....they are the only mechs that can load four modues.

Wild speculation, of course.

The whole idea got scrapped. I wouldn't be surprised if the original Mech tree idea came into the game with each skill being a consumable. Charging, Magnometer vision, 4x zoom and other stupid ideas to milk money from the fanbase.

But perhaps they'll limit to amount of strikes a team can use total in a match? Perhaps there's a big spread on the munitions (but with high damage potential if you hit), a delay between airstrike is called and it actually hits, huge risk of friendly fire (making airstriking a big brawl stupid) etc.

That is going to backfire.

Not just the command console but the Dual Cockpit. So not only is there a cash component but a "physical" one also. One that calls for us to make a in game decision. Do I give up 3 tons to be able to call in strikes?

I tend to agree with your speculation.
The Air Strikes and Artillery will most likely target a specific grid-coordinate, not a specific 'Mech.
And as others have suggested, Betty will probably give you a fair warning when the bombs are about to drop - so you'll probably have a chance to get out of harms way.
However, some people enjoy ignoring Betty (Incoming Missiles, Base Under Attack...), so I'm sure a lot of people will fall to these new attacks.
