I just put up a massive post about this, but there is a serious misunderstanding in the community about how this game is funded, and who controls which aspects of the development process.
IGP is the publisher, they control financial decisions. Your founders money, and the money you pay for MC goes to them. IGP pays PGI, and can dictate in many ways how the game takes shape. Consumables almost certainly came from IGP.
Also, mucking with the revenue system likely means the game is doing well financially, not the opposite. If MWO was performing very poorly, IGP would pull the plug; if it was doing less than stellar, they would expand existing revenue streams, reduce costs (development), and let it sail off into the sunset; if it's making money they would try to expand with new revenue streams, something that carries financial risk with it, as you can always damage existing streams.

I hope people will read it, as a better understanding of how business decisions are made with regard to the game (consumables are a business decision) will allow the community to better influence those decisions.
