Admittedly only played one round in it yet but, IT'S A BEAST, I love it, just fast enough to count for a scout and has enough fire power to make pretty much anything quake in it's boots. I wish it had JJ's (I'm a JJ junkie) but I can forgive that little omission, Now it just need Garths voice on start up and it will be perfect! (almost, still needs JJ's)

It's a decent mech for 4-man drops. Had a blast playing it last night. I dropped the engine to an XL320, removed 1 heatsink, and upped the SRM2's to SRM4's. It's basically a fat Jenner that can't fly. If you don't want to spend MC, buy a Jenner. If you like Cicada's and have some MC to burn, you'll like this mech.

There's the answer to your question.

You're piloting a light - you shouldn't be near said teammates for much of the match. They can buy their own fracking AMS.

First mech I ran into after getting my X-5 was a Raven-3L. My dual SRM6's made short work of him once i got behind him. No contest. Getting tag teamed by three other 3L's in a later match, not cool.

Welcome to my Spider world - but imagine that you're not able to kill any of them.

Void, I am not trying to start an argument, but why are you so opposed to the cicada having AMS like every single other mech? We should be sticking together as pilots of the two so called 'worst' light mechs out there

Final summary of why I think it absolutely should have AMS:

1. It can help a bit with LRMs. Although you can often outrun them, this is not always true. More so it can help your teammates quite a bit. And I really disagree with what you said there void. In competitive play after the initial scouting is done, lights mostly stick with either the primary or secondary lance. The maps are small, the objectives are basic. Scouting is largely unnecessary (sadly) after the initial phase.

2. More so than number 1. SSRMs. AMS isnt that great. Really it could use a buff. But it can still make the difference between life and death when you are fleeing from a pack of streak ravens. Or if you run a coordinated light lance with 2-3 AMS you can pretty much make it so the raven cant get a single streak off at all.

3. Finally, what bothers me the most. EVERY OTHER MECH HAS IT. What the heck? It wouldn't be OP if it had AMS. It wouldn't have anything every other mech doesn't already have. It is unfair that it doesn't have it. Especially for $15.

I rest my case  Please PGI. I beg you. Fix this.

Well, why not make it one ballistic hard point (can't have two UAC5's anyway), add AMS...move the arm lasers to the torso and...add ECM...hmm...We're talking about the 3M now aren't we?

Do not make me responsible for your own imagination. None of Cicadas ever had missile hardpoints for reason: they good enough even without missiles. Adding 2 MH - this is for the Garth's fun, not for the balance, imho. And X-5 - is P2W Cicada, damn it...

The Cicada is a glorified Locust, just like it's supposed to be. It typically mounts lasers, MGs, and SRM 2s. Just like the Locust. ;)

Funny you should link to that which also mentions the Stride which is the same chassis reworked to be a light cavalry mech with missiles.

Strider equal Cicada, no?
And by the way:
"The Strider has been called 'a Grand Jenner' by some of the members of the DCMS because of its missile heavy weapons payloads which are more akin to the Jenner than the Cicada."

I love the mech. It's a solid purchase, and I'm very happy with how it performs. It doesn't seem imbalanced, although I would like to see an AMS.

The one thing which confuses me is as to where the lore is for this mech. I can only assume this is a non-canon mech, but I can't find any material about its origin on this website or the wikis.

Well, there aren't two worst light 'mech chassis - the Spider has that slot sewn up tight - but I'm not actually "opposed" to the X-5 having an AMS. Nor am I in favor - I simply insist on the fact that AMS on a fast 'mech is not much of a big deal. A large number of light pilots, including myself, don't even bother to spend the tonnage on it; that's 5% of my Spider's total weight, you know. The lack of an AMS is very likely an intended balance decision, but either way it doesn't mean very much - even if it was an omission, it's not something that urgently needs to be "fixed."

I agree with you. I was not trying to say it was a big deal. I just do not understand PGI's decision to exclude it and I think it would be more than reasonable for it to have ams.

Never used a cicada before, took mine out for a spin and about 30 matches and my average dmg was about 400-500. Loving the mech. I don't think it's OP by any means, but it is definitely a nice mech.

However, the paint leaves something to be desired..
