I frequently post from a simulationist perspective. The thermals would work just fine in Caustic Valley in real life, but I really must say that I kind of miss the challenge of having thermals be difficult to use in Caustic Valley. I honestly think gameplay wins out over realism in this one instance. I really liked that the maps felt different from each other, and this was one of the main things that made Caustic Valley unique before.

Thermals are working as intended in Caustic. Have you seen the ambient temperature there? It's a bloody wonder you can see anything at all with that much heat around. Infra red is going to be useless on a map like that, it's just another aspect we have to adapt to and it makes perfect sense.

They changed it. Get with the program. Now Caustic looks just just every other map.

Caustic was the only map I didn't run 100% in thermal. Good old times, now I'll soon forget how the mechs actually look...

OP is totally right. It added realism. Instead of nerfing thermal a bit (makes no sense for it to be so sharp) they buffed it. I really liked being forced to NOT use thermal on a map. Or to say it in a different way: I liked that I could spot mechs better without thermal than with, eventhough they were still hard to see because of the heat waves.

Hmm, one way to force people use other (read normal. Night Vision is useless) modes could be removing zoom ability when thermal mode. -> Most people would then change between normal and thermal constantly :)

I've shot an email to support asking if you can (according to the terms all mods are forbidden until specific written consent is given, so would like to obtain that before distributing a mod on here).

edit: Support says that they will currently not allow any modification of the game in any sort or form. SweetFX is also forbidden btw.

I'm bumping this up, since Thermal Vision on Caustic Valley is just like thermal on the other maps (i.e. very little ambient heat) and this is fairly significant. Others have posted about it, and I'll use this as a temporary "go-to" thread about the Caustic Thermals.

Wha? Oh, that's a terrible idea. I actually enjoyed the fact that there was one map I didn't feel obliged to play the whole thing in bluvision. Hope it's an oversight they fix soon.

It didn't REALLY need a change, not as much as night vision needed a revamp.

The old green looked pretty damn ugly, but now its too generic.

Actually, I was stating that the new Caustic Valley is more realistic after the change based on existing thermal gunnery optics :) But I agree with you from a gameplay perspective. I kind of liked how thermals worked before, even though the thermal optics would not have actually been degraded much in real life.

See this post for discussion of intended changes to vision modes.
