The Training Grounds are a good start to what I think this game needs overall, and that's the ability to purchase and modify a mech only for use in the training grounds.

Now there are plenty of sites and programs out there for designing a mech, but you don't actually get to TRY them out before you buy them. I've put together some mechs that would require 15,000,000+ CB to purchase and tweak, just for an idea.... but if I had a way to try it out to see if it's a good idea, I would spend that money.

So basically what I'm envisioning is going to your mech bay, building a mech, tweaking everything you want and having a button to try it in the training grounds... when you exit the training grounds you're still in the edit mode, and you can make more tweaks, or purchase your mech.

Make Training grounds a multi-person drop. I want to be able to drop with my trainee and show them what to do.

You should be able to modify and test a mech BEFORE you buy it, but maybe only once every X days. (to prevent free fun)

Oops. I thought that those targets were the trainees? I told everyone of them where and what I was using as I killed them. Damn. We are going to need more Trainees... :P

Even though trial mechs somehow fulfill that I'd like it to be an option

First I would thank you in stating that the training / test bed area is a very welcome addition to our mech lab. The ability to fine tune a build before subjecting it to the rigors of battle will no doubt save a great deal of frustration.

Next, if I may be allowed, I would like to offer a few suggestions. I have acted as a training officer in other MMO games and there are a few slight changes that would enhance the training grounds by leagues.
1) Moving Targets. Even if only 'on rails', a moving dummy will help train fire control for snipers and missile boats and make scout training a great deal easier and more applicable.
2) A Test-Drive option. While it is only irritating, there is a significant sense of loss when you purchase a new mech (MC or C-bills) only to discover that you simply hate the machine. A sensation that repeats when you realize even selling the fully equipped mech your net loss is several hours or even days worth of effort.
3) Group drops. This is a game that stresses communication and focused effort. Where better to establish protocol and develop tactic patterns than our new training room. Few things will derail a weak operator's training like an early death in every match.
4) Instructors' permissions. This may be difficult to implement but would be the most versatile tool set a training officer could want. Much like taking command and directing your allies during a match, allowing an instructor (or instructors) to spectate freely would allow them to watch over their students' shoulders to critique their piloting or vice versa so the students can observe techniques put into play. The last in this suite I would ask is the option to 'switch IFF'. In training this would allow one unit or a small team to act as targets for the trainees capable of returning fire to help hone evasion and guarding tactics as well as introduce a dueling arena for friendly one on one or team on team in-house matches. I respect that the last will likely be limited to 4 on 4 initially and is not likely to exceed 6 on 6 at any point.

And finally, thank you for your time. It's a long post and you lot have hundreds of these to comb through each day, but it is my sincere hope that I can offer a little aid. Thank you again.

Having a trial mechbay you can buy and build mechs into and only drop in training grounds by yourself would be a cool feature.

I came expecting any number of things, including a request to step up the ability to bring a team into the training grounds with you.

But this suggestion, well, this suggestion is very solid. Planetside 2 operates this way to great effect, as it's an awesome way to try-before-you-buy they've implemented recently.

Definitely +1'ing this. It'd be a good thing for everyone and might help PGI sell more hero 'mechs!

I like the fact that they added this, but other then setting up my fire groups and checking my heat lvls I don't ever go back, but if I was able to "test drive" mech before I bought it (or gasp) a load out I was looking at buying I think that this game would never have me leave my computer.

Isn't the Training Grounds something that runs locally on your machine only? If so, they cannot do what you ask without completely overhauling it.

While I agree that being able to try out a mech in the training grounds before I buy is a good idea, personally, I think trying it out with a stock config is sufficient for my needs. I know what all the weapons do and I have my preferences. Each mech feels different and we do not need to test outfit it the way we will after we purchase it in order to tell whether we will like it or not.

Sounds super convenient and everything, but when you are working on a hot-rod in your garage IRL, do you get to try it out before buying the parts you are installing?

The way it is adds to realism and immersion. You should have to buy the parts to use them in the mech - testing it or not.

*Edit*

Please take the bias out of your poll.
