I love, love, love the Wolverine and even had the old 1:48 scale Robotech Defender model way back in the day. One thing, though: the scales of the mechs have been a bit of a head-scratcher.
Yes, height and width don't denote mass, but remember this is a game and size has a real impact on how survivable a mech is. If the Wolverine is around the same height as the Centurion, awesome. If it's the same size as a Highlander, which seems to be the pattern, not so awesome.
If it's the same size as an Awesome, is that awesome?
Kintaro hero mech announced on twitter. Released tomorrow.
On this topic, I think it's important to note something for those who haven't seen it... not that anyone would find it so far in this thread.

This isn't 100% accurate, but it's pretty close considering I did this in 45 seconds.
Basically from the front, left, and right, your CT front can be hit. There is Zero risk in using an XL engine, but as a result there is Zero protection for your CT.
Golden Boy is also the slowest of all Kintaros (290 engine) versus the rest (360 engines). This means the Golden Boy is the worst one to use for brawling. It makes up for this by having 65 total missile tubes available. Most other Kintaros are listed as having 26 to 28 tubes.

That's a Publisher's name! O_O! Or someone from IGP. Anyway.
But yes to continue what was said here... Golden Boy benefits hugely from an LRM-boat persona (treat it like a real Trebuchet, not an MWO one). With 65 tubes it outperforms most newer mechs in terms of LRMs, and will outperform even the Catapults and Awesomes after the art overpass that we are supposed to get. (A1, 30 tubes max. C4, 40 tubes max. One of the Awesomes, 40 tubes max. Most mechs, 10 [Centurion], 17 [Victor missile boat], 50 [Highlander 733] and the list goes on. Trebs cap out at 30 to 40 tubes.)
The other Kintaros, with only 26 to 28 tubes, will never make ideal LRM boats as most hardpoints are limited to 1, 6, or 11 tubes (if smurfy is correct. If smurfy added the tube numbers together for shared hardpoints, then it's really 6s and 5s). So other Kintaros will either blot out the sun over time, or they will be brawlers unlike the Golden Boy.
With the dates given for Standard Reseens, here are some of the Mech dates that I assume they will be released on:
October 2013- Locust
November 2013- Shadow Hawk
December 2013- Thunderbolt
January 2014- BattleMaster
February 2014- Wolverine
March 2014- Griffin
Anything more specific on this? What sort of improvements etc.?
In ATD 43, Paul stated there would be improvements to their mobility. My guess would be twist range, twist speed, possibly engine cap raises for low-cap mediums, turning speed improvements. Things like that. Anything that would make them more effective at an anti-light role and anti-heavy in packs of mediums role, as this seems to be their new assignment.
As a medium pilot, I'm looking forward to changes like this. Thank you.
Indeed. Though honestly I think being consistent in capacity would work better.
Right now if you have less than 250 engine, you are short changed in capacity despite having the same number of heatsinks as someone who does have a 250 engine or higher.
But on mediums.. They are always much more effective in packs.
Gotta say, haven't heard much from him/her since the post. Could it be that his "stupid" list isn't so stupid. Crouching was in previous games (guess he/she didn't play them), melee in TT (and in Mektek's Mekpak in Battle Armor), and Mortars in previous games and in TT. Gotta give ya Killstreaks though....
no, crouching and melee are incredibly stupid. I cant remember ever reading in a BT book that "the pilot bent to one knee in his firestarter to better utilize his available cover and snipe with his ppc". and sure if they wanna introduce melee, to make it oh so TT real, then I hope also they make it to where if you miss a swing you fall over so I can blast people in the back as they lay on their faces.

I do recall one where it says "the Hollander extends its legs, elevating its body up from a crouching position to crest its Gauss rifle's barrel just above the hill; virtually unseen as the two Ambassadors meet at a range of just a kilometer away. There would only be time for one shot. It had to count." Which is rising upward from a crouch, raising only his barrel and his cockpit over cover to make a secret pot-shot to start a brush-fire war.
I also recall where they crouch in water to remain unseen as enemies pass by.
Tabletop used "prone," in which when I tried it my Atlas was able to use the left arm or the right arm + torso weapons (I am picturing an Atlas laying there like a Seal). It was less of a viable tactic, and more of a way to "fight back while fallen over" by allowing you to shoot with one arm while using the other to push off to get back on your feet. I imagine the ability to dive into a prone position while badly damaging yourself under your own weight could benefit some mechs. Especially if it took considerable time to get up with chances of failing miserably. I'm personally picturing a Centurion diving behind cover (literally) to avoid a 6 PPC blast, at the risk of some spread damage from doing so and then spending the next 6 seconds trying to get back up so it wouldn't be overly abused.
I do agree melee strikes in the sense of kicking and punching should result in such things as falling over and struggling to get back up when you miss. However melee previously in MWO involved much more 'tank-like' bull-rushing or jump-jet drop kicks, rather than stationary attacks. I'd like a button to extend my Centurion or Awesome's arm out to clothesline someone at a low height for bowling through light mechs.

Better use of cover, melee and use of combined arms-air strikes, artillery, drop ship assaults etc are how the clans were beaten.
Melee will be difficult to implement, but it would be cool, cover and falling are more important for realism but right now id rather see CW implemented so me and my friends feel like we're achieving something, not grinding for nothing.
The thing about melee is that it wouldn't be that hard to implement a really (terrible) rudimentary system. Give every mech with lower arm / hand actuators a weapon called "melee" that has a range of 10m and deals X damage (based on the weight / speed of the mech). If something's under your crosshairs, 10m away, and you pull the trigger, you deal X damage.
Give it a swinging arm animation and you've got yourselves a (very very very) basic melee system.
I think we might expect CW at least phase 1 be4 oct 15 since we will get some mechs with loayality bonus as well as medailons for loayality which is part of CW.
UI 2.0 be4 CW...maybe at launch.
Just my wishes and theories .
Ok! Now I'm really excited to what is coming! And I've just found this TODAY! To many sweet things from this game, its blowing my mind! I'm not sure if it was said, but I'm sure they will add more than enough mechs to fill our dreams! Form the looks of it, after this list is completed, and its all said and done that's probably when there will be a huge amount of mechs added over a long period of time. Like they been doing already!
Some upcoming administration features; that really should be already done.

Due to some technical and auditing limitations, we are not able to make changes to players' email addresses. We do have plans to implement a tool on the website profile page to allow users to make these changes on their own account though I do not have an ETA for that tool becoming available.
Sorry about that limitation.Regards,

Agreed but Crouch function should be an integral part of Collision/Knockdown not an afterthought to be dismissed. If I see something walking up to me and i know it's a Tripping Mech Build I'm going to go Prone BEFORE it happens (Not stay eternally tripped by MG's Beta nightmare!)
In Concept Stage*:
Clans, Clan Technology, and Omni Mechs (Fall/Winter)
*Concept Stage is a point in development where the idea has been brought up and discussed, and maybe even seen a little programming, but have a reasonable chance to be scrapped for some reason.

Seriously. Stop reading into it so much.
Also, you are assuming that the Crouch Function will have any impact at all on Collisions. It may or may not, depending on how it's programmed.
There is a long list of things that they want to do. Many of those things won't be done for many reasons; lack of time, lack of tools, or lack of intestinal fortitude.
Once they make the announcement on Clans and Clan tech, it'll be upgraded to Development Stage (and eventually, Priority)
