I've been a bunch of matches lately with a bunch of crying about LRMs if you don't have ECM. So here's some ground rules on dealing with them.
1) Stick by cover. Buildings, big hills, whatever...just so long as it's taller than your mech. When you get the "Incoming Missle" warning, duck behind it. If you're going to stand in the open and eat LRMs like it's your job, enemy pilots will be more than happy to feed you.

2) If you have a hill that has a shallow grade to it, don't just back up to break line of sight and then stop. You want to break line of sight (and their lock) and also move away from the path of the missles. When the lock is broken, the missles will still continue along the path they were going before they lost it.

3) Get close to those LRM boats if you can. If you get closer than 180m, their LRMs do nothing. If I'm in my Catapult-C1, the last thing I want is enemies at close range. 3 med lasers, TAG and LRM 15's are not what I want to be taking to a brawl.

4) If you have to cross into the open for any reason, KEEP MOVING TOWARD COVER! Don't stop and don't try to fight with anyone out there. The longer you're out there, the more LRMs that are going to hit you. You're not going to win any brawls with their teammate dumping a steel rain down on you. Take some lumps from their direct fire, tank some LRMs if you must, but get to cover. Let your enemies stumble around in the open and get trucked by your team's missles like a boss if they want to.
5) Die with good grace. Sometimes you have some bad luck or make a mistake and get wrecked by a long range pain train. It happens. Just keep in mind, those guys take their fair share of lumps as well. LRM boats are outright delicious. If I'm in my Jenner, I keep an eye out for missle trails from enemy mechs and try to get back to those juicy morsels. An A-1 sporting all LRMs!? Yum! Alternatively, if you prefer those c-bills, you could think of them as a pot of gold at the end of a smoky rainbow.

If you see it spiral as it's incoming - they can see you. Get to cover fast.

If you're fast enough you can Juke missiles by running right at them and cutting hard right or left (depending on which way the missiles are coming at you) at about the last second.

On Alpine without ECM facing an LRM boat...

Nice knowing you. I hate that mech... bugged to hell, too big and deadly to certain builds, boring to others.

In this game, no point.

When you've got people boating 60+ missiles... "potentially" shooting down 5 of them is a waste of space. You get better survivability upgrading your engine speed with the weight you would save not including AMS.

Not to mention that AMS will probably fire all of your ammo into the rock infront of you anyways, since you cant turn it off.

Yes, but missiles can still hit you on about 50% of the hills, while under cover, while a sniper cannot.

Taking out 3-5 of the sixty missiles heading towards you makes a huge difference........oh wait, it doesn't.

Carry ECM or stick near one. If the other team gets all the ECM and all the LRM boats, you'll have to work a lot harder for the win than they will.

Killed several ECM+LRM teams last night when I was lonewolfing. It's almost a blessing when the enemy team's atlases are packing LRMs, because they can be mitigated by using cover. Hate when I, or my teammates, stupidly feed them kills by being out in the open.

I think people get careless when they have the ECM umbrella. They'll walk across wide open spaces, with nowhere to run if they get tagged and targeted.

Any Way you like it.

Personaly, i always use AMS for its Damagemigration. 5 dmg less are 5 dmg less. Together with other Techniques to avoid LRMdmg, its realy good. And it also helps my Teammates.

Btw, its not always the 4 LRM 15 Stalker that kills. Sometimes its only the 2 LRM15 Cat.

I just don't understand how you guys are all like "oh LRMs aren't even a problem just stand near cover l2p dummy!"
No matter what I do, what mech I'm in, what map I'm on, I get "warning: missiles" every .02 seconds from all directions. No matter where I hide or how fast I go, I'm getting pelted by LRMs and spotted by unseen enemies.

Dual AMS destroys 10 LRM's, so fighting a LRM60 stalker, that is 1/6th less damage. I run a LRM Armtemis 60 stalker and I took out a LRM 80 because I had 2 AMS and he did not run AMS.

An yes because everyone can mount 2 AMS! Haha, silly me, I forgot I could do that on literally every mech besides 2 assault mechs!

Ive tried telling people this for months. its far easier for them to qq here and get pgi to break lrms than to learn to avoid them in game

i don't run AMS in any mech, including big slow plodding atlases. yeah i take a bit more damage sometimes, but if i ever get really hurt by LRMs, it's my own carelessness or my team is rapidly dying anyways and i'd be toast one way or the other. ~5lrms per folley that AMS shoots down isn't worth the 1.5tons and 2crits to me, especially since sometimes the placement of the AMS kills space for a DHS

hardly. more so than other maps, no doubt, but there's still plenty of cover if you plan your advance. the jumpsnipers are the real killers on alpine, able to dish out their damage at range and almost immediately be back under cover

yes

yes

but you can back down between when you get the warning and when they hit. doesn't work so well vs ppcs & ballistics

and a poptart can kill you both without taking any damage and not need AMS at all.
no one questions that 5fewer missiles isn't 5 fewer missiles. if all you're doing is slugging it out with another LRM boat, yes, every little bit counts, though there's also a good chance you'll just kill each other with the missiles both have in air
not to mention, your 2ams shoot down up to 10 missiles per volley, giving him effectively a 70missile volley, still better than your 60. even if he's firing them strung out, and you can shoot down maybe 15, or hell even 20 to where it's equal, normally that close of a margin with LRM duels just means both people die unless one was better about choosing his cover. also i suspect he didn't have artemis and you just cored the more important bits, that or got an ammo explosion. bottom line, your ams didn't save you, better LRM use and possibly positioning did

Its because i dont experience any Problems to avoid missles. I get seldom hit by them, and even if i get hitt, i get only a small amount of dmg, duo Cover, Movement and Ams.

Ok the 4 LRM 15 Stalker wich is fireing at 200 m isnt to avoid. In such cases i had mispositioned myself and die through my own fault.

Can group with someone who does. Then you have 3 AMS.

True but you have to be going very fast for that to work effectively, anything slower than 115kph or so this won't work for.

But instead of mounting AMS I can just mount ECM which works as a no missile wall for the entire team?

Really why should I have to worry about all this "smart play" and tactics when I can just shut off all enemy missiles for the whole match for so little effort?
