1. Repair cost
2. Ammo cost
3. Mech collision (including falling to the ground)
Imho it was this 3 features that made MWO special compared to pure pew pew games.

Pretty much this. R&R made you a bit more careful as to which upgrades to put in as to not lose money after a match (Perfect example above) and Collisions made you a careful pilot as to make sure of what's in front of you (i.e. Not hitting anything bigger than you are, avoiding Dragons and Lights).

Why? As stated out, it was what made MWO special.

As it is now it seems like the c-bill rewards have been tweaked slightly downwards since RR is gone, but I still make a profit on every match.

Sorry, but that's not true. You just have to think first and than skill up the mech you like. It might take 1 week, but after that, if you play a bit intelligent, it's no problem after all to always have enough money.
I myself did it exactly this way - without premium. Took me 3 weeks, to be strong. OK, now i have premium, but it was a birthday gift.

Wrong... I have been around in the beta for quite a long time and heaven forbid should you run any sort of xl engine or anything except lasers, rearm almost always produced either little profit or even negative cbills without premium(without abusing free rearm). All this does is give premium users a significant advantage over free players. Yes I'm a cheapskate but I would prefer to keep the game balanced. Stop trying to fix what isn't broken.

It was more terrible and unfair than you could ever imagine, which is why it had to go. Never coming back.

I don't know about you but I hate games that require a bunch of grinding to have fun.
