Yes. Small reward, extremely little effort.

Seems to me they shold consider just using the best 10 games over any two hour period. More games give syou more chances for a good one I suppose but I've had some of my best games kill wise cleaning up after an extended long range duel on Alpine.

Sticking around for 8 or 10 minutes on a larger map is not a ticket to loserville based on # of games played.

This still rewards players who play more, though. Better to pick a number of matches and just use that, no "best of" and no time limits. That evens the playing field and removes the spam tactics and IRL non-competitiveness of any time-based scoring.

Chance can be mitigated against by having a larger number of matches required. IE, 25 gets a more reliable result than 15, simply because more games means random matchmaking pwn or fail gets evened out better.

They don't really care. Both of these tournaments have simply been a test of their ability to stat track and compile a leaderboard. Also, partially for ELO. They just see the number of players on and go, "we r so cool and popular, guyz!"

It's challenging because your team is now half full of suicide rambos and at least 3 or 4 people are LRM boats who wait for you to damage folks in brawls and they try to steal kills.

It adds a new dimension - you have a bunch of people on your team trying to screw you essentially.

It incentivises a certain type of play that is neither team based nor is it representative of what the very core of being a mechwarrior is about.

Its doing everyone no favours and I am dissapoint.

Yeah.... dropped on alpine, one player on each side never even showed up in the list (disco'd as soon as they saw 'alpine', maybe?), within 10s of match start another 4 people disco. That's real fun, especially the 4v6 part.

Feh, it's a beta tournament. Relax. It's all about information gathering. It's like that first time you went 'I'll sneak around this other side alone and ambush the enemy team' and then, of course, died.

You may have learned some good tricks for moving sneaky on the map even if the end result wasn't ideal. Relax, let the same thing happen. PGI is testing tournaments.

Yeah this crap about PGI running competetions? These aren't competitions. The NVidia tourney is far enough in the past they've obviously forgotten what a real competition is. I didn't even bother to sign up for this so-called "tourney" this time.

Been cleaning my apartment instead, and I have a lot more to show for my effort than anyone and everyone participating in this weekend's BS.

And sometimes you get a full team with decent players, but you have to battled synched goons. Oh well.

next tournament. winner has the most deaths in a 2hr span.

i wonder what would happen? not like i have the foresight to anticipate what might happen, so the only way to find out is to try it and see right?

I remember in Warcraft tournaments there were selected tournament maps depending on the type of tournament being played. Alpine really should be dropped... I mean, I played it once during the kills portion; 11 minutes zero kills. I could have played 2 of any other map doubling my odds of making kills (placed 8th in kills btw  ).

Alpine should not be included in tournament play.

well in theory everyone should get alpine, giving everyone an equal chance

in reality people disconnect when they get alpine, but they're too busy running around in ravens and cicadas raking every target they can find before suiciding

as the thread title says, these tournaments are stupid, and encourage stupid play. this one even more than the last

In TF2, they had achievements, and a LOT of them were to reward the player for doing something counter-productive to your average game.

I get the sense this is somewhat similar.
