More than a small minority.

Pretty sure more people would rather see Urbie than have wasted time on 3PV.

The urbie serves no purposes. There isn't a single role it would even be remotely decent at. It would be a massive waste of resources. Same with 3rd person?

@DreamSlave

technically, this videogame has zero purpose. Yet here we are. As long as people want it, and Core fans overwhelmingly do, it serves a purpose.

....lo and I behold a shiny sea of Urbanmechs, Autocannons at the ready, waiting, knowing that the Clans, should they get this far, won't make it one single step further.......

I'd Kickstarter that beast!

And what our friend Dreamslave doesn't realize is that Deputy Dawg does NOT mount a 60 rated engine... why d'ya think he has that Large Laser instead of an AC......?Add in 360 torso rotation at breakneck speed, and being shorter than a Commando to boot, and this lil Urbie will give your precious Atlas a ****** probing he'll never forget!

They already have a decent back log of mechs.

It wouldn't be a waste of resources if it would bring them resources, no?

My theory? They say have six mechs ready to go, I believe these are the King Crab (my vote for the final assault), four clan mechs (kit fox, mad dog, timber wolf, dire wolf), and the mighty urbanmech who will be unleashed when the game goes live as a gift to the community. A gift that makes a lot of money of course.

Also don't forget how small the urbanmech was, it is known as the shortest battlemech. From TT standards it the only mech bi-ped mech the is 1lvl tall.(aka 6m or less) all other bi-ped mechs are 6m+ tall. So the urbanmech would be shorter than the current Commando.

Well since they haven't been keeping mechs to their lore size, I doubt it'll be a problem. (Note the Centurion and Trebuchet)

I doubt the Urbanmech would be viable. Back in CB I tried out turning a Jenner into a Panther, and the results were pretty sad. A stock Urbanmech would be terrible in almost every way. The only reason people would want it would be to have a mech smaller than a Commando with high speeds- pretty much the opposite of the original design.

well..... by current scale..... it could end up as large as an Atlas!! (hmmmm... Imp , anyone?)

also, should have a 3.0 version of Urbie up in a couple days, pic is almost sketched out, just trying to be sure I am happy that the AC matches existing stuff. And.. find a decent way to get it online without a computer!

They would not get the speed that's for sure.
60x1.4=84 so the "Fastest" engine for most UrbanMechs would be an 85 rated. Which would put it about 45.9kph without speed tweek.

which is why they need my Police Special Urbie as the Hero Mech version. The 8 tons gained by not carrying the AC/10 proved highly useful in making it into an Interceptor.........

The thing about the Urbie is that it could, under the proper circumstances, core a mech before it could effectively reply.

There's a reason it's named Urbanmech, and it's not for Kyle. The whole design was toward urban combat, and specifically urban Defensive combat. It maneuvers out of sight behind buildings, walks out where it has a sightline on the rear of an enemy mech (or the side of a lighter mech) and punches a huge AC slug into them. Then it jumps over a building and is gone before the enemy can reply in kind.

It's light, it's inexpensive, it's powerful. Just the thing for a second-line garrison mech.

It would have a place in BV rated matches where you need some light filler with decent potential due to taking a top heavy team.

I still like my "Urbie Pack" Idea, where you pay heavy or assault mech price, but get a whole lance of the little buggers that follow you around by AI, shooting at what you shoot at......

I think they should change the matchmaker to a more BV setting. It would balance things out better and give some interesting mismatched teams to fight, like oh i dont know. An all light force of about 50-60 mechs vs 8 atlases? It could also help when the clans come, as they would definently have less mechs then the innersphere would have. They could always just put it in, or maybe make it the imp instead as a heavier version....

Still want an urbie though. I would still recommend it to be the new players ride, giving everyone an extra mechbay with the urbie in it. The urbie would be unsellable along with its engine. Maybe break the engine limit rule? Also give it two slots of all weapon types, 2 ballistics in the one arm, 2 energy in the other arm, and a missile in both torso sides to give it good try out weapon capacity. Make it skill maxable with just the one variant, so its easier on the new players. If not letting it break the engine rule then maybe let it mount the armor of a medium, as it is a heavily armored light mech...

Could think of a few other urbie specific upgrades that might help as players get more xp with it, or maybe even just giving it some nice quirks, so that new players can have fun with the amazing Urbie. Another option would be to make an urbie (or stock mech) only game mode.

And the handling. Think of the Urbie as the "Tokyo Drift" of MWO....... Wait... Eh.... On second thought, let's not.
