If a team is mostly lights vs a team with all heavies and assaults, the heavier team has almost no chance. Light mechs counter heavier mechs by virtue of heavier mechs not being able to hold weapons on target for reliable damage(or there would be no reason for them to exist) so allowing a matchmade game to put a team against another that explicitly counters them is unfair and unbalanced. The matchmaker needs to balance weight classes or matches just end up as patently unfair and nonsensical. Teams need to be reasonably balanced between weight classes or games will get decided before they even start in 9/10 cases (very lucky or very good teams might be able to turn it around, but those are rare, especially in PUG). It doesn't need to be a hard and fast rule, but ballpark balancing is needed.

It needs to balance light mechs at least.

Light mechs decide the game more than any other weight class. not matching them is a huge imbalance.

In canon, the average lance is mostly mediums, with possibly an assault, light or heavy as a role-specific add-on. This 2 assaults a heavy and a medium/light in each lance thing is entirely PGI and a lack of intuition. I guess they might just be waiting for UI 2.0 for some reason or another, but it really hurts the game in the mean time.

True, but I think a bigger problem is teams that drop and promptly see 1-2 mechs on one side or the other D/C. And it always seems to be the team that gets the "last added member" that watches them drop out, maybe because of pingrates or something inherent in the code.

It really, really sucks to drop and watch 5 seconds in when the Atlas on your side goes D/C.

I disagree. The issue is voice coms and pugs vs premade. That’s it, that’s why balance never seems to go in the right direction. Because they are not doing it right. Come Sept the devs are going to be in for a rude awakening when the new players getting rolled by premade don’t stick around.

Or figure it out to join a group or faction and drop with players that are on comms!

It won't be a surprise to the Dev's they get rolled on a regular basis. Which why they are implementing *Agressive changes in weapon/game balance.

*(although by Agreesive I thing they really meant Passive/Agressive)

Everything about the matchmaker is pretty terrible at this point.

You get huge disparities in both mech tonnage and skill level.

And people prefer to stay out of real combat. People want to play games so it needs to be fair.

On the contrary most people pay for going into real combat most dearly.

Kind of like the mighty US Army vs. the ragtag Taliban insurgents.
