You could look at it this way..people who do lots of damage cant shoot, they hit everything except the critical parts of the mech...

Can someone explain why I get insulted, swore at, degraded or talked to in a way that is sub human even If I am fulfilling my role? I recently discovered the awesomeness that is the spider and was getting barked at because I was not scoring obscene damage. It didnt help that the commentary was coming from an ecm atlas who was actively running away from the front line to fire lrm's.

So my question is, how much damage is a spider supposed to do during a match?

Well PGI has made this a FPS in a mech huge DPS is not a simulation situation so when mech pilots do try to play the role there mechs were designed for you get(YOU AAHOLE YOU DAMMAGE IS ONLY 100) or(WHY CANT YOU DO SOMETHING TO HELP)yadayada yada. When matches last 1-5 minutes tops its just not a skill based game its a DPS GANK FPS.

I like to point out the fact that in each match there is a set amount of how much damage that can be done and the more skilled the pilots in your team is the less damage anyone will do. After all the proof of utter dominance would be a team going 8-0 with minimum damage done.

People tend to forget this.

You should stop paying attention to what your PUGs tell you.

here a short list of do's and dont do's :

- Saying "HF and GL" at the beginning of a match is ok, somewhat silly, but very friendly...so you can if you want.

- Talking about plans at matchstart with PUG's is fun and can result in success, dont be mad if it goes wrong through.

- Joking around after death, is ok, as long as it stays friendly. When the guy you are laughing at, can laugh too...then you got good humor and its ok.

- Commenting other skills after own death is a clear dont! There is a line between helpful and pesky...

- insulting others in any way, because you feel like or what ever is a clear dont!

- Commenting others team after you shot em, is a clear dont.

- making sure in any way, that other payers feel bad on a personal level outside the game is a clear dont.

- Commenting others choices of battlemechs is a clear dont.

Well...to put it short: what your parents told you about basic social behavior, is exactly what is expected here...or everywhere in the net. What? They didnt? Ok, then...your one of the "talking dead"

It requires a lot more work to be effective as a spider, far more than it takes to sit in a DDC and spam LRMs.

They're not really meant to fill the role of front line damage. Scouts, recon, spotters, hit and run harassment, decoys, live bait, etc. They seem to be quite good at quickly capping points too. Just because they don't do as much damage as an Atlas doesn't mean they're useless.

He may be playing in US prime time. I play EU prime and I have not seen much trash talk at all. Its mostly someone doing the glhf at the start or gg at the end. That is also somewhat annoying because I don't want to respond to anything really and it make me feel kinda bad when people try to be nice but get ignored. I am here to shoot at mechs, not socialize.

It fought a spider who did 502 damage with his ER LL and a Tag. He was the second highest damagedealer in that round.

Not saying that was me, but that is one of the builds I run and it works well.

people are forgeting its just game. nowadays everyone wants to best of best and even little bit better then that. So people completly forgeting about fun factor which is most important at least i think so. People which mostly screaming on somebody in game are those who has problems with their egos so i rly wouldnt mind them.
Just think something about them selfs or make a joke for ur self and **** that ****. Have fun thats most important, help ur team to win game or get some upper hand but dont follow strictli damage. Its nice to see ur self on TOP but in the end does it really matter that much ? especialy in team game :)

Same here. Not once have I seen people being legitimately rude or obscene in-game, and there have been a few times now where I was surprised by how polite and casual people were being.
For the most part though, chat is pretty quiet.

I'm not a light pilot, but I sympathize with the frustrations some of them express. To me it seems there are a few factors that make being a scout difficult right now. In PUGS scouting is difficult because most times your team won't do anything with the info you provide, plus the text system of relaying info to your team is atrocious and impossible to use as effectively as a 3rd party VOIP. Also, and I don't want to derail things here, ECM and smallish maps turn most battles into a quick rush brawl. I just checked my stats, and my average game last about 6-7 minutes, win or lose. That's not a lot of time for a scout to do their job. Give it time. This game is constantly evolving. Who knows, maybe there's something coming down the pipeline that will make Spiders great.

As a guy who has played his share of MOBA games, I gotta say that MWO is a very, very, very chill place as far as flaming and language go. You must have just had some bad luck and fell in with a group of prepubescent whiners.

Dude, rock your Spider all day, every day. Forget the flamers. Have fun!

So my question is, how much damage is a spider supposed to do during a match?

Answer the first: You were playing with people who care more about wins than having fun(I'll bet dollars to donuts you also got chided for bringing a spider).

Answer the Second: (-100 + Player Age) * -1

Please note my research is based on absolutely nothing but my own opinions. However, I have been playing since Closed Beta, and my Opinion matters more.

Seriously though, if you bring what you want to the field and are still taking crap, then find another MercCorp. The point the game stops being fun is when you need to stop playing or find another group with which to play. It is one thing to have people point out what is wrong with your build. But for a cowardly ECM Atlas(aka "Mayor McCheese") to chide you for not brawling enough in your tissue paper armored mech.

Using light mechs as shields so you can safely lob LRMs..... ;)

Truely dishonorable conduct and not even fitting of even a Lyran Mechwarrior.

The people complaining about others are usually the ones who made the smallest contribution (even if that includes the highest damage from hitting random parts of mechs e.g. LRM spam)

What is the role you were taking on?

The issue with the spider is it isn't particularly good at anything except jumping.

I would say the best role for a spider is dedicated recon and TAG spotter.

I really wish we spent more time figuring out the right way to reward people playing the different roles, so we could stop focusing on damage quite so much.

The best idea I've had so far is here:
http://mwomercs.com/...nemy-attention/

Figuring out how to measure role warfare is a tough problem, though. If there are any other good ideas out there, I hope they get written down.
