I myself made a build that probably made anybody watching do a double take. JM6-DD with dual LBXs, 4 MGs and 2 Flamers. It actually worked quite well, if a bit hot.

Saw yet another Atlas in the past few days with nothing but torso weapons, and nothing particularly amazing there, either (standard AC20 + SRM's.) I don't get it - why give up the flexibility of having the arm mounted energy weapons? The Atlas has poor vertical torso range, so these guys are hosed on Alpine, around the volcano on Caustic, etc. Why?!

Okay, I know they overdid the LRM's in today's patch, but come on... there was no excuse for this DDC Atlas: 2 LRM 20's, 1 LRM 10 and a TAG.

That was cute, right up until I lit him up with a PPC to break the ECM bubble... things went downhill after that for him. Nothing like an assault mech with 0 weapons under LRM range...

Then, there was the Cicada (X-5) with 2 SSRM's... and that's it... no idea... and they didn't even break SSRM's in this patch.

Worst was a DDC with 3 lrm 15s and tag only with 2 ac2s to support it.

That was me. Loved that build. Not all altasses need to charge in bump oilys and unload a wad of alpha. I regularly did over 1000 dmg per match with that build. Pre lrmoclopyse. Post lrm nerf I'm still getting 2-3 kills a match. Though since lrm ecm update yesterday it has dropped 1 kill and 6 or 7 assists since I can't run arty with ecm.

It's not about the alpha, it's about tanking damage. An Atlas draws fire while 'mechs with a better firepower/tonnage ratio put on the hurt (relatively) safely. Killing a bunch of stuff is a byproduct.

My K2 with dual LBX was pretty craptastic if I had to fight anything less than a moderately damaged enemy. If I was able to stay back a little until the fighting really broke out it was a hell of a mop up mech but it rarely reached its potential (but when it did--tons of fun!)

But I certainly know people looked at that particular mech and just shook their heads, lol

While running around in a 2ML/ ERPPC JR7-FC, ran across a catapult with two lrm20. That's it. It was amusing to sit at his legs and blow his arms off, then one leg, then a torso, then the other leg.

I stripped my Jenner D to customize it, and forgot to put the weapons back in. I ended up being the tastiest target on the field. Quite possibly the worst thing I've ever done to a 'mech, although the time I put in Ferro instead of endo by mistake still rankles.

Yesterday I saw a K2 with two AC10, AMS, and a top speed under 60 kph.

Every double LBX-10 build: It can't effectively fight anything his size and whatever it tries to do as light/medium hunter can be done better by the lights/mediums themselves.

Saw a doomed Awesome the other day with nothing but LRM's and a single TAG. I actually felt sort of bad for the guy - he was the last one left on his team, so it was sad watching that big, ol' mech lumber completely helpless while being torn apart by 3 or so other mechs.

Much like the goofy LRM + TAG only Atlas I saw earlier, there's simply no excuse for not putting a few close-range weapons on your LRM boat. Even a handful of medium lasers will avoid such embarrassing deaths.

I built a cicada once... http://mwomercs.com/...-be-an-awesome/

(TL;DR: 4x ER PPC on a light = shutdown most of the match. The 2x ER PPC build wasn't much better :) )

Based on today's experiences, we'll have a small quiz for folks who want to buy an Atlas: :)

The best part about the Atlas chassis is which of the following:

1) The ability to downsize the engine to something so small that you'll be outrun by a 1-legged urbanmech... for more guns.

2) The torso ballistic slot, ideally suited for a single AC 5. This goes best if the rest of the loadout is basically stock.

3) The ability to be the best LRM platform in the game, but without ECM or backup weapons.

Chose wisely! -_-

I accidentally dropped with an unfinished blackjack Bj-1DC before...2 A/C 5 ammo with an A/C 2, I at least had 1 ammo for that. It also had 1 mg with 1 ammo... at 64.8 kph and stock armor, I was essentially in a walking coffin.

I used this one a few time ILYA MUROMETS. Of course I only got in to battle with undamaged mediums and up.

Uh... that jenner with 2 ssrms and no jumpjets with little armor was me. Once again a victim of too fast clicking and a hyper sensitive mouse.

This is the worst I've seen. From my own brother no less.

HBK-4J

When ppcs were the dominant weapon used not too long ago, he was trying to get on the bandwagon, but didn't have enough cbills to buy a stalker, he only had a a hunchback j. So he strips his armor, puts the bare minimum engine in with no heatsinks whatsoever, an then throws on 5 ER PPCS. I told him that he was a lunatic and that he should drop an er ppc and get heatsinks, armor, anything else really, but he wouldn't listen. For some reason, he did really well in battles, much better then my stable 2 er ppc hunchback build. I guess surprise had something to do with it as most people would never expect to see a 5 er ppc hunchback.

Edit: Forgot to mention it did not have doubles and even though I begged my brother to put on doubles he wouldn't touch them because "they are too expensive for my taste".
