So you're saying that League of Legends did not become one of the most played games in the world by relying on Elo matchmaking? You're saying that they've been using an ineffective matchmaker for... what is it now, three or four years at least?

That is correct, it got be a large game DESPITE using a flawed Elo system. They also changed the system recently into a better one. The old LoL system had the same problems the current MWO have and that is why they changed it.

Landslides are being caused by distribution of a few things: ECM, Missiles, Ravens, AC20 Cats, Splatcats, PPC Snipers, Jump Snipers, and things like that..

Not to mention, the very nature of the game. If your team gets outmaneuvered by a tiny little bit, you lose a couple of people without doing them any significant damage. It's hard to make a comeback - more likely you'll just see a domino effect. This will happen even if the teams are perfectly matched.

No, it's the other complaint; neither of them are valid. Every second game I see someone die in the first two minutes and blame their team. There is a common factor in all of those steamrolls.

You're saying "the Elo system groups 4 goods with 4 bads" as if it's a fact. How do you know this is the case? It's not my experience. I keep getting matched with 15 tough motherf*****s, whether I'm grouped or not. So if my Elo experience is so different from yours, it can't be a systematic issue, right? Perhaps, again, we should be looking at the common factor.

I don't want easy games I want fair games. It's almost impossible to win with a group of 4 high ranked players (who are actually as good as their Elo) if you repeatedly do not get matched against equal enemies. The game compensates with 4 scrubs and puts you against 8 players who are all pretty good. If you can only play during off hours this is a huge problem because you never get 16 similarly skilled players and a mismatch occurs game after game.....

Not matching the weight is ridiculous as well. Yea it will be fixed later... but the current state of the game is ruined with Elo and failing match maker.

If you have 4 good players and 4 players who might as well not exist then the game is more like 4 on 8 and I really don't think the best 4 players of this entire game could take on those odds. I guarantee you that 8 average players with mid-low Elo will trump the top 4 players. Why? because they're smart enough to realize if they are only fighting 4 people those guys are going to be fantastic.

This is the OTHER valid Elo complaint.

First of all, you have no idea what anyone's rank is, and second, you have no idea what your own rank is. Third of all, even a skilled player doesnt play good all the time. And lastly, you have no idea what anyones rank is.

You cannot determine what anyone's rank is by how they play. Nor can you rush to the forums with your assumptions just because you lose some games. In a perfect ELO world, your win/loss rate would be 50%. Tell us, what is your win/loss ratio? If its 1/1 or close to it, then ELO is working. And if its not working, then 1/1 win/loss means your an average player.

Why dont you just cut to the chase and beg PGI to reveal ELO scores? Thats what you really want.

It's pretty paranoid to believe that Elo is grouping you with players much less skilled than you to "average things out", especially when we have been specifically told otherwise.

I hated lone wolfing before. Now, with my pretty good ELO, the solo queue is actually pretty advantageous for me to play in. I get generally competent teammates and face generally competent enemies almost all the time. It's a pretty sweet spot for someone that plays casually like me.

MWO Elo doesn't work in the upper ends of the ratings as there are too few players for that. If you are a good player, then you are game actually have trouble finding a match most of the time and there is deffinitly not some magically supperior players above you that you will start to lose against if you improve your Elo. So there is no real cap on how much Elo you can get.

If you're even playing against a group of 3-4 people on a team who are using comms. Then you're already a step closer to losing. So learn from those who are kicking you in the dirt, get up, get some friends and get some comms. Use teamwork, because in the average field of players out there, that particular trick has a hard time being beaten.

Even if there's 2 groups of 4 not talking to one another then at least things are going better than 8 single players who use nothing but the chat box...

Wait, wait I thought "pug stompers" are ruining this game? Isn't this why we got segregated? And then you still complained about 4 mans...so they built a system for puggers, and you still complain? PGI can't give aimbots to crappy puggers. Well they can, but i wouldn't recommend it.

Newsflash bad players are bad. Maybe we should be blaming the parents.

Wait, you complained about landslide losses, and then tell us how your throwing matches in the same breath? do you realize that this kind of behavior is ruining matches for other players? how selfish can you get?

I am pretty sure there is a rolling wave effect in this game, where a successful start to the engagement usually leads to a successful end. There are few 7-8 matches, because its just uncommon, no matter how well your matched.

However, by playing in the manner you have, you are only serving to give PGI bad metrics, and make it harder for them to tune the system.

You're mistaken. Their matchmaking still relies on Elo: It's just been hidden. Their normal non-ranked matchmaking relies entirely on Elo as well.

I can imagine this kind of suicide grinding is also against the terms of service like it was when R&R was in.

Is it against the rules to use 1 armor in each location and carry explosive ammunition in extra critical slots? Sure it's probably just about the least viable possible mech build but I'm free to play that if I wanted (do not want... just saying). I can choose to carry 100% armor or 10%...... I've seen some ridiculous LRM boating with 10% armor. With the right setup it is absolutely unbelievable.

I agree with the four useless teammates, I have had so many matches where bottom four guys do 80 or less damage. Doesn't matter how good you are if your pugs drop that fast the odds are stacked against you.

Not to mention these guys are bad enough that they ignore your advice and run off in 2 directions then die. Quite fustrating

I know I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. In a clan of over 200 people it seems most prevalent among the best players and anyone who plays off hours.

Elo is not trying to create balanced matches by generating an "average" Elo. It is trying to make matches by pinning together a bunch of people who have close to the same Elo.

But don't take my word for it.

I won't take your word for it. I know what I see what happens when everything isn't perfect. You see a 4 hour run of games where 90% of games end 7:1 or worse.

You can't tell me how the match maker is working because Elo scores are not visible. You cannot offer much feedback on said system because it's supposed to work one way and in fact it might be working another way. Do you know how many ways this game has had little features here and there that were supposed to be working but in fact weren't? This current problem is that we can't test to see if the MM works or not. When it works the game is fun.... but if you ONLY play in off hours the game is not worth playing.

It's not a common factor in my experience. I've seen games where it's me and 3 friends with 4 randoms vs 8 randoms (who all happen to be legendary founders). Granted that doesn't mean they were better but it means they have had the potential to be playing longer.

When you're dead you can watch people you know. It's pretty easy to tell if someone knows what they are doing when you can see where they are aiming. And if you see someone in a trial mech do you really think they are going to contribute much to the match?

If your Elo experience is different from mine there is no way to observe what is wrong with what I seen as to how the MM is supposed to be working. If you want to compare we can do that but there's really not much point as we do not have detailed stats.

I never said I was doing it. I just pointed out that some people have. Selfish person does not care about your gameplay (you should be aware of this).

I rarely see a 4:8 match let alone a 7:8 although I did have one not too long ago where I put down the Jenner as the last man standing in an Atlas with a cherry red torso (closest fight ever since I started the fight with orange internal armor).

Their metrics are just bad. On the one hand I hope it could break the system so bad they have to throw it out. But I'm aware that won't happen and I want it to work correctly so that I can have fun playing instead of having mentally handicapped allies.

No matter how good someone is, sometimes you get popped with a 6xPPC shot or get focus-fired down early in the game. Sometimes you just end up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Elo will push you to 50/50. Your Kdr will probably be a bit under 2.0 at best if you're dropping with skilled folks. People who are as good as you are.

All right I'm calling you out what's your KDR?

I played about 500 games in the era of 8 man stompathons solo and mine was just under 3.0; I'm going to assume yours is at least higher than that?

My KDR was still going up even though you expect to lose 50% of all games now. However you can win far more than 50% of games by cheating the match maker. How to cheat match maker? The quick explanation is 4 ECM med/lights or 4 DDCs.

The number one factor that impacts which team will win, is teamwork. And ELO cannot account for, or balance for, teamwork. That is why ELO is essentially worthless beyond dropweight matching.

What does my KDR matter? Its Kill / Death Ratio 2.16 as a pure pubbie. Its okay. But why did you want to know?

You do premade right? There is zero problems with Elo when you pub so it would be strange if you are suffering while being a pure pubbie.

If you do premade, here: have another laugh from me. If not, well then I am sorry and apologize.

Not to offend anyone....but this statement right here....THIS is why ELO numbers should remain hidden. THIS is EXACTLY what people would use em for. To try and either validate their arguement with a metric, or INvalidate someone else's with it. And while im NOT saying the Quoted Poster would be nasty about it, i have NO DOUBT many others will......and for what? End of the day, you'll STILL have bad days, bad teams, and bad moments. We'll STILL have steamrolls and close matches.....The ELO number would just be YET ANOTHER way for us to be ugly about trying to be right.
