Ok...ok...The Mackie. No? Well I voted the spider

Dragon is completely overshadowed by the Catapult and to a lesser extent the Phract. Even in it's one claim to fame area, speed, it barely has an advantage over the Catapult. Huge CT hitbox doesn't do it any favours.
I think the mech that has to take the cake though is the Spider.
I'm grinding my way through them now, and while the SPD-5D is decent due to ECM and arm energy mounts, the other two variants are just useless.
The 5V is a joke. Very few build options since it only has two slim energy mounts in the CT ("do I take the ERLLAS, or the 2 MLAS hrump?") and the extra jets don't accomplish anything with current map design. It just gets eaten alive.
The 5K can either mount a single AC2 (yay) or an ERLLAS and 4 MGs (and thats with all upgrades and a bit of trimmed armour). MGs still don't do enough to justify basing a mech around, but at least they're fun to listen to.
Take a look at the other lights - the Jenner can do everything it can with the jets and with a lot more fire power. SRMs, up to 6 MLAS depending on the variant, how does it not beat the Spider in everyway? The Raven obviously dominates it, even the lowly commando has more interesting build options.
Spider needs some love. I wouldn't even call it obsolete. That implies it WAS useful at some point. The Spider is a total non-starter.

I feel like the good Spider's/Cicada's/Awesome's i've seen would've done the role even better in another mech.

I can't believe people who complain about non-ECM spiders when there are the non-ECM COMs to complain about....
Edit: I forgot to mention that COMs are also slightly slower than all other light mechs....I mean, smallest and slowest...how does that make ANY sense?

It's too bad about the Hunchback. I remember back in CB when they were very powerful.
After the Phract came out though it seems that was the straw that broke the camels back. The 9l is my favorite variant, but it can't hold its weight anymore in comparison.
I can't wait for weight limit drops. Until then, my hunchbacks go untouched.

Only the ECM spider is worthwhile and that's not competitive with the COM-2D.

Sadly I do believe (when comparing it to the Spider and how weak that is) the flea when introduced will be the weakest/most obsolete mech. Most med+ mechs are still semi-viable but anything other than the 3L for lights is practically useless.

I enjoy taking my hunch (4P) out every now and then but it doesn't have the speed nor armor to be survivable anymore.

They will make more sense with tonnage balancing.
That 25t Commando can deal as much damage as some 50t mechs. And harder to hit with slower mechs. The Commando's role is to strike heavier mechs which find it harder to land their weapons on effectively.
The Commando is not a great light hunter. But is dangerous to a scout mech. The issue is that scouting doesn't exist in this game because of the amount of shared target data (if anyone can share data and scout, then why play a scout mech?).

Also the reason people don't mention Com's is the ECM version is probably the 2nd or 3rd best light variant in the game depending on your view of ECM.

I say this as an Atlas pilot so take my observation with a pinch of salt. That being said, when I see a 3L I know I need to pay attention. Similarly with the 4 or 5-ML Jenner. The Spider I can usually ignore no matter what it's carrying. Spider therefore gets my vote.
