Let me clarify, yes you can use certain mouse software (mainly gaming mice) adjustment to work in the game but the control panel in Windows adjustment will not work in the game.

Then you can choose one of two paths, either invest in a gaming mouse, or invest in MW:O so they can continue to develop the game (and the hopes they'll make the changes you believe they need to).

No, reality has changed my perceptions of reality. You don't go free to download to the general public, market yourself in every possible publication, and SELL THINGS FOR MONEY, in beta. No other product on earth works that way, and this one is no exception. You're just getting suckered, which given your gold status means this isn't the first time they've done it to you.

If they didn't sell things? Sure. Open beta. But they sell things, and at that point it's a released product by both law and common sense.

I've been suckered by nothing. I knew exactly what I was getting before I bought the founder's package, which at the time was very little as compared to now.

Damn near every f2p title works this way now. You may not like it, but it is the reality.

We used to be able to. Back in CB I know my Zoom was mousewheel up and my acquire target was mousewheel down. :ph34r:

You can still do it. You have to edit one of the xml files.

What they call themselves doesn't change what they are. Marketing doesn't define reality. The fact that you believe that this is a beta test period is a joke.

Breaks failed? Beta.
Food was bad? Beta.
Phone battery exploded? Beta.

Man, they could apply this title to anything and you'd love it when it failed.

Agreed. But for the brand new user who doesn't have a gaming mouse, the new user experience is horrible because there is no in-game mouse sensitivity adjustments. And would think twice about investing in either of those above.

What gamer doesn't have a gaming mouse?

Even then its not required I was using just a 5 button garbage optical for a while because I didn't feel like hauling over to best buy. Drove everything from assault snipers to lights with it.

Buy a new mouse, or spend money on an unfinished game and HOPE that mouse sensitivity gets added, eventually.

You are taking the analogy a little far. This product is still in developement. You knew that, or should have, when you downloaded the game. You are not required to spend a dime on this beta product.

Also my breaks never fail. I have a 100% sucess rate while smoking my cigarettes.

My wife. She has a trackball mouse.

I think the new player experience is more hampered by having no tutorial or instructions than the lack of a ingame mouse adjustment. however I will concede that more controls would be better.

If someone who is a "brand new user" as you state would not know that their mouses' sensitivity needs to be adjusted in the first place. They would have more obvious frustrations on that list before they got to your concern about mouse sensitivity.

I took the analogy to its logical conclusion. They are selling a product, and thus it is a released product. There is no countering that fact. No attempt to try will succeed. They are selling a product to the public, ergo they have released the product. By every definition of a beta test this isn't one.

Did you edit user.cfg file to adjust for mouse sensitivity while using the garbage optical mouse?

The point I was trying to make was that the game needs an in-game mouse sensitivity adjustment.

Never touched it.

Its taking me longer to get used to my new mouse than it did to use the crappy one at windows settings.

All I did was turn acceleration off.

It's a beta, they are making good improvements, and getting blasted for not doing other improvements first?

Do you really not realize how insane that is? This is the kind of nagging that gets girlfriends dumped. Do you talk to your boyfriend this way?

Because PGI is badly managed, and cannot into priorities.

Speaking of, why can't we map the mouse anymore? We could do it back in CB.

also:

  • Mouse sensitivity; Go to ~ C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\User Config, and add the following lines

    i_mouse_smooth = 0
    i_mouse_accel=0
    cl_sensitivity = 0.2

    The last figure (0.2) can be adjusted to taste, the default value is 1.0.

This is good but be warned. That " to taste" is on a per game testing, until said "to taste" is found.
The game must be restarted with every change to the USER.cfg the "to taste" value can be painful to find initially. :ph34r:

As opposed to fathoming why someone playing a modern day online game would touch a joystick with a 10 foot pole. Not everyone stuck in the past is a joystick jockey.

That's your mouse driver giving different sensor information to windows. He's talking about the windows mouse controls which are software.

Did the OP mention he was using a Joystick? Must have missed that. A good Joystick with proper software controls makes for a fine Mech control tool. It even has extra buttons as well. Just like a real Mouse does btw.lol :ph34r:

If you have only a 2-button mouse, hopefully with a scroll wheel, then perhaps and upgrade would be order. Seriously. :ph34r:

Alas, I am a poor college student. I probably shouldn't be wasting time with games in the first place, but this game is so damn addicting.

Well yeah, that's the basis for the new control options, joysticks. They aren't going to get much traction with the mouse community. As for a joystick, it makes for a great paperweight after you get cored by someone using a mouse with the mouse accel turned off in the config files. It's an immersive toy, but it's strictly worse than mouse use for actual player performance.

^^ topic title.

Why this claptrap before a generic and useful mouse sensitivity adjustment option?

Because all they do all day is conspire to hurt you so you will shed a few more of those delicious tears. It brings them such joy in life. Would you deny them that?

Agreed. Along with a manual that includes what said sensitivity settings does, exactly, and also have an entry for every manufacturer and how said sensitivity effects each and every Mouse on the market today. Also include separate specs for every game that can be played with "that" mouse and also add in those games that can't be played to avoid confusion

We wouldn't want the players to be confused about not having the data required to adjust "their" Mouse properly to MWO. Best make in .PDF format as well so as to make sure that... Wait that won't work. Not everyone has a free copy of the Adobe ready i'd bet.

Damn, players make this stuff complex. :ph34r:
