Don't know if this has been suggested before, but I thought about his last night when i was doing some lone wolf pug drops and was starting to get very bored with the same maps.

I would like to see if anyone has thought about creating multiple spawn locations on the pre-existing maps. Small maps that currently have only 2 opposing spawn locations could probably fit 4-6 zones really. That big map could probably fit 8 or 10.

- would not require a lot of extra work on a given map itself
- you could make sure team 1 and 2 will always "cross-spawn"
- slightly changes tactical situation by changing which terrain features are closer to spawn
- not a dramatic shift, but helps add longevity to maps people are already bored with
- may lead to some unbalanced spawn situations. could be fun/challenge to overcome

basically I was thinking about how in Starcraft many maps typically have multiple potential spawn locations. your thoughts?

I think that having various spawn locations would be a lot of fun. I see a few different scenarios that would be fun:

1. Just like it is now, whole team spawns mostly together but drop points are varied. There would still be "matched pairs" of spawns so that if Team A is in one place Team B is in a specific place.

2. Whole team spawns together, but there is no matched pairing; each team's drop location is random.

3. Individual random spawn; this would be a drop gone bad, every paratrooper's nightmare. Have to rally together, but be careful because you don't know where the enemy is.

This is actually one of the best suggestions I have personally come across on the forums. As long as you kept the spawns at opposite starting ends it would be great. It would help diversify the maps as I am sure there are corners in caustic valley I have never bothered to venture into. And the choice of not always going upper or lower in River City would be great! Would really like to see this happen, make it so.

Speaking as someone who's actually done some professional level CAD and 3D modeling work, there is nothing "Easy" about your solution.

I'd get behind this. At least 4 possible start points. Some of the map start locations on certain maps are not super well balanced IMHO.

great idea, OP!
especially Alpine contains at least 6 spots which would make possible bases for a team, in assault mode.

I particularly like the idea of dropping two lances at different locations (and the enemy, too), so it's not a "big ball of death" scenario right from the start.

Why hasn't this been done yet? It would be great if the Devs could automate it in a way that when a map is selected there is then some code to select 2 "cross-spawn" points from a list of possible locations on the map. I assume a setup such as this would be quite a lot of work, but you then wouldn't be able to assess strategy until you actually dropped onto the map. Another, I assume easier, option would be to create "alternate" maps. Copy the existing maps and move the 2 spawn locations to other areas. I'd imagine this process could be pretty streamlined and get a good amount of alternate maps out to the community quickly. This would add a lot more flavor to the limited number of maps there are currently.

C'mon PGI, do this now!
