Jagermech - Effective Builds

They never seem to realize how quick the damage builds until it's too late and they pop.
Plus the machine guns and laser sweep either kill or scare off most lights. (LEGS PEOPLE, THE LEGS!)

Can anyone recall, offhand, a mech that can actually outfit a couple of megashottys and a pair of decent energy weapons in a similar fashion to a Jager without skimping on... well, everything else?

2x AC5 & 2x AC2 = p3w p3w
or
2x AC20 = b00m
Both work great and provide me with much fun and laughs!

Then I tried the build I am still running:
3x UAC5 with 5 tons of Ammo,
2x MLaser,
1x AMS with one Ton of Ammo,
some standard heatsinks.
Nearly the same damage than the dual AC/20, but with faster fire and more ammo (28x 20=560, 130x 5=650 dmg)
And much greater Range, of course.
I like it and had some very good matches with it , nearly as good as my epic match with the CDA-3M.

2 Gauss Rifles
1 Medium Laser (optional... just a flyswatter / attention grabber)
XL 255
Endo Steel
Keep single heatsinks (!) if you haven't bought double, heat is not a problem
Full armor... but shave off some leg and head armor to fit as much gauss ammo as possible
I feel like dual gauss ends up being better all-around than dual AC/20. You don't have to worry about heat at all, your effective range is several times that of an AC/20, and the gauss projectile speed is higher so it's easier to hit lights. The extra range is well worth the -10 damage compared to dual AC/20s. You will be able to peek over hills and overall control the rules of engagement much more than you can with short-range AC/20s, so you're much more likely to survive long enough to deal more damage.
The medium laser doesn't really do any damage, so it's mainly just a psychological tool. If someone is facing their side towards you and you're in range, you can try using it to get them to look at you so you can cause center torso damage. You can swat at lights that get too close, but you're probably better off actually killing them since your gauss rifles are surprisingly effective at very short range.
I'm looking at the 2x Gauss + 2x ERLL build earlier in the thread, and thinking... You can do more damage with that, but if you are really committing to sniping it's probably smarter to avoid beam weapons so that you're harder to detect. You'll also might have more trouble repositioning or peeking with the slower XL 200. On the other hand, it's hard to ignore the extra damage from the ERLLs, and having a beam weapon means you aren't limited to spot damage. Of course I haven't actually tried that build so I'm just speculating, I would try it out in a heartbeat if XL engines weren't so expensive.

AC40
Double Gauss
Double AC2 & Double AC5
Triple UAC5
All tasty, i switch between regularly.
Bigger engine the better too, I use XL.

But Damn the R and L torso on Jagermech is so weak!!! I cant even challenge other snipers... They just focus always my torso and do HUGE dmg to it

(I do really well in Jagers but get shot to pieces in Cataphracts so I do not have all the answers

I came up with it myself, but I'm sure others have thought of the same thing. It's got some ER large lasers for long-distance work, an AC/20 to punch through armor (and shoot lights on the wing) and 3 machine guns to wreck up the place.
I called it "16 Tons" after the last verse of the song:
If you see me coming, better step aside
A lot of men didn't, a lot of men died
I got one fist of iron, the other of steel
If the right one doesn't get you then the left one will

I just bought the firebrand from the sale this weekend. I was thinking of upgrading the AC to AC/5, switching the PPC to large laser and the mlas to 4 smlas and putting the remaining tons into the armor. Tried to put a smurphy link, having some difficulty...

Firebrand:
Left Arm: ER Large Laser, MG
Left Torso: Large Laser
Right Torso: Large Laser
Right Arm: ER Large Laser, MG
The idea is to use the ER Large Lasers and Large Lasers to do the work at a distance but once the enemy mech gets in range you have hopefully opened a part of them up so here you also use maching guns to help gets crits while you use one or the other large laser groups.

Only problem I run in to is that three tons of AC ammo isn't really enough, I do run out quite a bit. I've considered dropping the 280 to a 260, but my -DD is still using it and I don't feel like swapping it around. It's also not as crucial because I still have those large lasers, so I'm not completely helpless once the ammo is gone.
Using it's weapons is a little tricky, since you have to lead the ACs but not the lasers. But honestly, once you're a little closer, that's only an issue with lighter mechs, at which point I'm just using the lasers anyway.

what's the distribution on your torso armor? I tend to have it fairly heavy towards the front, with maybe 8-10 in the back. It gets hairy if a light gets behind you, but for the most part that isn't a huge issue, and if you're running 3 UACs you should be keeping the enemy in front of you.
