Sarcasm aside I really hope you don't feel that way as it feels very short sighted. The missions could be all combat related with different missions on different planets, no grinding, but more like a multiplayer campaign in a dynamic universe, all objective based, capture, secure, defend, assault, recon etc. It would require careful planning and a fully funded company to produce, it wouldn't be something a small company could just whip out.

If they took the combat and spun it off into a single player game with a persistant world, ability to develop your regiment etc...maybe a MW2 Mercs updated I'd drop another 60 dollars today..screw other ppl.

Honestly the potential for having a PVE or MMO play is one of the driving factors keeping my playing and supporting the game through purchases.

While I don't want to see another WOW clone (and I liked SWTOR for a while) getting more immersion and story is my biggest hope for mechwarrior. I would love to see something more to the game than just 15 mins. of shooting then ready up and drop again.

I played through mechwarrior 2,3,4 and the expansions more times than I can recall just for the pure joy of it, and miss the story archs possible with this genre.

It's not like an MMORPG version has to be a seamless universe. You could still limit it to battlefield maps. But it's about how you go about it that matters. Adding immersion, giving people a reason, feeling like you are really building your way up to become a great mechwarrior. Instead of just grinding out cash to buy another mech for your hanger.

Am I the only one that would want to start in a stock light mech with a faction, building my way up to better mechs of the faction? Battling the enemy faction players who are in a similar boat to me. Feeling like I'm actually part of something would definitely give me more motivation.

You are not alone in wanting more immersion with this game. We are still working out the basic combat simulation at this point, of course, so I'm not panicking. A real salvage system, where you can win (AND LOSE) mech's and components, would intensify things a bit. Contract bidding between merc corps, extended campaigns where you have to choose a limited # of mechs to bring along, realistic repair and rearm system, aaarrgh... so much opportunity for win.

There are soooo many opportunities for PGI to makes this game amazing.

Unfortunately from what they have said we have very little chance of seeing most of this.

so I should start panicking, then...? I'm not particularly worried about what has been said, not said, is traceable to post #674 in some thread from a year ago, or whatever. The developers have clearly demonstrated their ability to change their minds about some things.

After they (and we) get the pew pew kachoo straightened out and fanciful (and it is already soooo beautiful in my reckoning), then we can really get some traction on the Community Warfare issues.

Take the whole Solaris issue for example -- we have been moaning about it forever. Private matches, 1 on 1 challenges, etc -- gimme gimme gimme pleeez! PGI has given us the Training Grounds, a way to drop on a map outside of the matchmaking system, cbills, xp, and all that. If some bright spark over there decides to change the Training Grounds to allow team drops, without changing a single other thing, the community will have everything it needs to create the Solaris metagame. We could run our own tournaments, create ladders, record videos from the cockpit of a 'referee' mech for that 3rd person view, celebrate the winners, and generate a TON of buzz. I'm sure we would have plenty of volunteers to run the logistics of managing Solaris -- without draining resources over at PGI.

I would love to gap someone with a gyrojet rifle outside my mech, plus sneak around in a sneaksuit and lop of a head with a vibroblade. Co-op, both in and outside the mech, would be great. Hell the only RPG type game in BT was the original Crescent Hawk game and I loved that (though I can't remember if you could fight outside the mechs, though I think so). Maybe if MWO kicks some butt it will allow for the developement for more games and types of games in the BT universe, cause god knows the source material is plentiful enough for a whole bunch.

Id be down with the rpg part as long as mech combat stayed the same. Hell no to special ability keys 1-0 rollin dice to hit. Use megamek for that.

They can still save this game. I still like the game. I like the features they are adding, even if they are crap at being able to make small changes without breaking the game.

But it's getting stale. The same (meaningless) game modes. Meaningless faction affiliations. No sense of anything other than "Giant stompy robot deathmatch."

That's just about played out as far as entertainment. I'm trying to hang in there, but CW has to come soon, and it has to be meaningful, and not some crappy wrapper for more deathmatches.

Just give me a star map with some planets and stuff, let me pick what planet to go to (pick which map or tileset at least), what kind of mission (different objectives/game modes), some factions to get reputation with, and it would make the current model significantly better.

Think MW4: Mercs or MW2: Mercs.

A full blown MMO in the BT universe would be crushed under its own huge ambitions, but I'd play it until it collapsed (see: Tabula Rasa)

Please no. Not unless we got a space bar with the classic music.
