MWLL was impressive for $0... but it was never even a stones throw from a AAA title, it never had a chance and even if they got the $5 mil, it still would not be what MWO is so far in many ways, yet it would be more than MWO in others.

Small groups do create impressive things, but they tend to need to cut corners, not always in delivery, but in depth of scope. Natural Selection 2 is impressive, as was torchlight and torchlight 2, but they gave up some things to deliver a smaller but still quality product. I am not simply referring to content, but I do not see anything out there aiming to eventually deliver as strongly as MWO in the Mech department for less money with a smaller team.

Right, but the point I was making was that the size of the MW:O team is not an excuse for the current state of the game as you were trying to portray. I gave two examples of smaller teams that created better products in similar time frames. NS2's timeframe is actually a bit longer but they created their own proprietary engine from scratch (the Spark engine) and they only had something like 6-8 people.

The ultimate point being that we aren't out of line or crazy to expect more out of PGI. They can and should do better than they currently are.

lol you are so angry.

It was an internet joke.

If I was so mad at Garth I would not have made a "Your mom" joke.

It's just like "That's what she said".

But really...Sabotage my chances...at what? Getting them to communicate better?

lol but man I am just glad I have your post quoted now.

It cannot be undone! D:

Yeah, that joke went over my head... way over it... Sorry? lulz

This is exactly right.

It actually still boggles my mind that they purchased the engine they did. And ontop of that they purchased an engine and are still this far behind.

That charges money for a lot of the new content.

That is like serving me a free overly salted meal and making me pay for water.

Hey 3rd! Long time no chat!

BTW, when did *you* get so salty?

You know, some day in the distant future we'll open topics like "Hey, do you remember, back in closed beta, when ABC was XYZ And we will answer with "Ah, good old times, I miss them".

Point of this post? No clue. But its +1 on my postcount.

Oh, and if anyone gets upset about a game - try to get laid.

If they would have taken UE3 the game wouldn't be that far now.

Can I get upset about a game if I have 2 kids thus showing my ability to get laid?

The problem with trivializing people's opinions with the "it's just a game" argument is that it fails to recognize that it is also people's time that is being wasted when PGI makes terrible decisions that set the game back months in the development cycle. People get upset at the senseless waste of time, not at "just a game."

I'm pretty sure you're either a deluisonal sycophant, bad or unfamiliar with this game, or both. Large pulse lasers do more damage already and have a shorter duration. They also do less damage per ton than medium lasers with a similar range profile but harsher hardpoint requirements and more heat per dps.

Touched a nerve, did I?

Was it asking you to support your numbers or explain yourself?

I get that nobody uses LPLs. I get that they're considered to be terrible. Are they terrible because they don't do damage or are they terrible because they have heat, range and weight issues compared to the other options to fill those hardpoints? By adding a point would they compare any more or less favorably to the other things that can go into those hardpoints (like LLs or PPCs)?

Based on what *I* think is wrong with LPLs your answer is not a solution. You haven't actually expressed what you're trying to fix (not here and not there) and all you're doing is screwing with numbers hoping that they make people more willing to use XPLs.

Why do you think I am asking? From all appearances you've been doing exactly what you're up in arms about PGI doing.

So is convincing people to wait another year for CW, and other content...

I can tell you which one won't happen, as a matter of fact I can guarantee how the scenario will play out if certain things happen, or more appropriately if they don't, and give a play by play.

You need to work on your anger issues.

"Someone murdered my family, I am going to kill them." <- Appropriate level of anger.

"Someone made this game slightly less fun or slightly more frustrating, I'm going to kill them." <- Inappropriate level of anger.

Yeah, you're right. The trauma shouldn't be that bad, but at the same time not thrilled with "plan B" being fly an Atlas DDC because it's the only way I can have sufficient defense while being able to work on my LRM'ing "skills" at the same time- every other mechs armor is effectively made out of pudding vs. LRMs until they fix this, or un-fix whatever caused this. (Felt like an extreme unannounced armor nerf to me last night.)

I just wish they could figure this out once and for all... LRMs are supposed to be a viable option, not dominant like they are. Crazy ironic to create a LRM damage bug like this right at the same time they release a mech that needs 26 tons or more of ballistic weapons to have an alpha strike of 14 points of damage.

Then take a break.

This is a game.

It is not worth getting worked up over.

It is totally OK to have negative feedback or whatever, but even just jokingly threatening to kill the devs? Not cool, man.

Again: "This feature sucks" is perfectly OK. "This feature sucks and I want to kill the person that thought of it" is NOT OK.

Sorry, apparently I didn' tread what you said.

View PostxDeityx, on 20 March 2013 - 10:53 AM, said:

Sorry OP, but your argument doesn't hold water. I too have been part of development processes for other similar games and understand what is involved. Game development isn't easy but PGI has made many mistakes that were totally avoidable. The balance in the game is so far off that it's unexcusable. The fact that there are only ~6 variants out of 60+ that see the light of day in high level competitive play is embarrassing. The fact that so many of the weapons are unusable in a min/maxed config is sad.

They also overpromised and underdelivered, which is pretty much the opposite of how you should treat your customers.

You reference your personal experience coding (granted you're mirroring the OP in that). You then state that PGI has made many mistakes that were avoidable. I agree with that assessment as well. Your inability to look at a small coding shop that has never made a game of this type before and refuse to cut them any slack on those kinds of issues implies that either you have never been in their position (in spite of direct experience in the industry) or that in spite of your personal experience you are unwilling to cut them the slack.

Did I misunderstand your post? You've done this before and it's so simple that the people at PGI should be able to do it in short order. Balancing PvP is easy. Coding up the engine, finding and fixing bugs and providing new features is trivial. After all, you've been involved in the process and know this for fact, right? Still trying to figure out how I misrepresented your post there. Clearly your experience has been something totally unlike PGI's (and my own) so I'd love to come work with you.
