Disclaimer: I'd rather pilot a Battletech Mech than a Hawken Robot.

However, the following email I received makes me uncomfortable to be an MWO player.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings, Pilot!
HAWKEN is heading East. To PAX East, that is. Will you be there? If you're one of the lucky ticket holders, come visit us at Meteor Entertainment's booth (#1080):
  • Play HAWKEN on the new Alienware X51.
  • Take your photo with a HAWKEN pilot under a full-size mech.
  • Get free stuff, like a limited edition HAWKEN beanie.
  • Buy the graphic novel, HAWKEN: Genesis, before it's available at bookstores!
  • Pick up your 5,000 free HAWKEN Credits - even if you can only be there in spirit.
  • Follow us on Twitter for live show updates.
And, if you missed us in Seattle, watch this video for a taste of HAWKEN at Emerald City Comicon:

You'll find HAWKEN all over the show floor at PAX East. Stop by our partner booths to play HAWKEN, get free stuff, and preview something brand new:
  • NVIDIA booth (#862): Stop by for a glimpse of new HAWKEN content.
  • ASUS booth (#762): Play HAWKEN tournaments and win HC codes.
  • We Love Fine booth (#593): Outfit yourself with a HAWKEN T-shirt.
  • Machinima booth (#712/613): Play HAWKEN on Alienware laptops and grab a HAWKEN beanie.
  • Logitech booth (#1056): Play HAWKEN in the LAN area.
  • Gunnar Optiks booth (#374): Score one of only 20 HAWKEN swag bundles.
If you can't make it to PAX East, maybe we'll catch you at another show:
  • March 25-29: GDC (Game Developers Conference) in San Francisco
  • April 26-28: C2E2 in Chicago
  • June 18-21: San Diego Comic-Con
  • Aug. 21-25: Gamescom in Cologne, Germany
  • Aug. 30-Sept. 2: PAX Prime in Seattle
  • Oct. 10-13: New York Comic Con
  • Oct. 30-Nov. 2: Lucca Comics and Games in Lucca, Italy
We hope to see you there!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MWO has no booth at PAX let alone what's listed here. Hawken also seems to be getting mucho support from NVIDIA, ASUS, Logitech etc etc (I'm aware PGI is on an F2P panel, it isn't enough)

So I put forth the question, where's the marketing for MWO? Where's the exposure? The swag? The convention appearances?

What exactly is being done to ensure the success of MWO?

I would guess they're waiting until CW is in.

CW and clans will be a game changer, MWO will be an entire new game when all that comes.

I made a big thread about this a while back: http://mwomercs.com/...39#entry2036439

The fact that Meteor is pulling ahead now like this is very concerning. Granted, Meteor hasn't been nearly as ambitious either, but still. Part of me thinks MWO could've benefited from another year or so in the oven before closed beta, but I believe IGP stated in a seminar they did that they wanted to push out "minimally viable product" as quickly as possible, which I'm now worried is hurting the game.

I know Ill never touch anything that asks for money for "minimal viable product" again -.-
Like the Tactics game, Ill be waiting for open beta to even look at that.

It is a little marketing gimmick called hype. Products seldom live up to it. IGP is the publisher so marketing is their shtick and I personally be believe they are playing it smart as an established IP such as MechWarrior and Battletech tend to build their own hype just by existing.

I recall some mention of GDC. There is a panel this Sunday at PAX. I was expecting a booth.

I've noticed the same. This disguists me. If I walk away from MWO with the slightest hint of bad taste in my mouth, IGP goes on my shitlist.

How would you even market that exactly. "Become a beta tester today!" "See game mechanics as a work in progress, and wonder what it might be like next patch." Yeah, lets not.

Hype's fine. The issue is building up hype and then releasing something that falls short, then going "but we'll get it done soon™, promise! Keep paying in the meantime!"

These days I find myself more angry at IGP than anyone else, honestly. A lot of the issues I see in MWO reek of corporate meddling.

That's great. But I didn't see anywhere on their website the word beta. MWO is not ready for stuff like that. Give them time. They will most certainly market their product in due time.

Hawken is in Open Beta just like MWO.

And no, promises of CW are not enough because at this point there literally nothing BUT the promises. No details, no CW roadmap, nothing, nada.

"Hype just by existing" is also a silly argument. By that yardstick, SWTOR shouldn't have done any marketing or Star Trek Online, or any established IP.

Maybe someone at marketing is ashamed of MWO and so they want to give it as little exposure as possible.

Never said some did not need to be generated. But they seem to build momentum quicker with less invested in my experience.
