3Rd Person

I watched some clips and i can clearly see where in some instances 3pv can be exploited.
standing behind a rock and i can see you but you cant see me. your 3pv is too far from the rock to see me. the angle is too shallow. this will allow me to time my attacks on your rear torso as you pass then hide and see if you turn then attack if your backs turned and you never see me. will need to test this out but its a big concern
Secondly the argument that 3pv lets you see your mech is true only in the sense you get to see the rear.
I recommend full camera view for training grounds 360 degrees. possibly making customization available from there.
player can tune a cammo set for a specific environment.
3rd is player population lets you split the player base then its a non issue but if que times are problematic then it got to go from the main game and be training ground only.

However being able to switch back and forth from 3PV to 1PV instantly is an issue as it allows you to much of an advantage.
Either make it so that once you choose 3PV your stuck in it, or make it that when you want to switch you have to shut down/start up sequence. That would make it acceptable.

The biggest threat 3PV has to the game is fragmenting the server populations. These ideas may help prevent harmful fragmentation.

It's F4 to switch back and forth between views...And it's only optional in Standard ("easy") mode.
Hardcore mode is 1PV only, but it's not active on test servers yet because they want people to focus on testing 3PV.

If it is determined to be a shooter, then short shelf life.
What segment of the player population is PGI going for? I'm confused.
Yep, that's the question.
3pv potentially seems to significantly dumb down the tactical and intuitive aspect of this game making it appealing for less skilled and less serious players. Its just a matter of time that this game mode will attract the wrong type of audience into this which eventually will lead to its demise
3PV will allow you to see anybody beyond a barrier that would usually block your vision in 1pv; allowing you to spot distant and close ambushes, jump snipers, huggers, flankers, etc.
Now tell me this wont make the game less dynamic and more dumb? As much as it has already been dulled down for the sake of some people who kept complaining because they dont know that they can simply hide behind cover from long range fire?
Next thing I know, they will add a cross hair with aim assist and nerf every single weapon that requires planning, skill, teamwork and tactics to play? If so, then I would say that they aren't making a quality game, rather a profitable game and it will die off in no time.
Thats when MWO will become anything but a MechWarrior game.
For the millionth time, you should be listening to MW communities and veterans more often or else you will most likely lose the most valuable player base of this game.
Plus, for those saying that MW2, MW3 and MW4 had 3PV. This is MWO a leap away from past MW games.

Which Mechwarrior title was it that was FPV only?

ie. BattleTech Solaris on aol...no 3pv there, was unheard of at that time in the BT games.
Unfortunatley pgi feels they need to pander to the easy mode folks, and maybe they do...I don't know what the online population is for MWo since they took off the indicator for how many are online long ago. But either way it is fail and not in the BT/MW tradition imo. Not to mention they promised us founders they would not do this. Funny how things work out when you accommodate the lowest common denominator.

How many 3rd person campaigners who swore blind that it wouldn't are going to admit that the rest of the posters were right?

Actually, their drone-based implementation of 3PV holds a lot of promise. If they can integrate it seamlessly as part of the information warfare aspect of the game, with a set of advantages and disadvantages vis-a-vis 1PV, the end result can be really great.
It now has potential beyond just being an aid for new players.

Not only will they not admit it, they now suggest mixing the 1pv and 3pv cues...

If you are really that stubborn about implementing 3PV (despite the huge opposition to implementing such a mode; especially after fully refining and building the game on a 1PV focus), then do humanity a favor and make a 3PV specific game mode: like deathmatch or arcade mode, and keep it away from the rest of the more serious parts of the game.
The down part would be that you are taking the risk of dividing this game on two markets and you might be up for a huge mess.
Plus, we all know what kind of audience will be drawn to 3PV.
