Sorry, I should have explained that in my post better. My bad.
Though I fine it funny that someone who didn't play with it would want it back in. Kinda, refreshing to be honest.

They don't use the same styled mechs as the Inner Sphere, but a mech in comparison would be the Dashi.
If I was at home right now, I'd give you a link to a wiki website that has all sorts of info on Battletech. But I don't have that right now...

Basically, they don't just updated inner sphere mech, but have mech designs of their own. Do a search for Madcat/Timberwolf, Thor/Summoned, Vulter/Mad Dog, Nova, Dasher/Firemoth... these are clan specific mechs.
I'll give you the link when I get home, but a Google search might bring you to the site if your lucky.

"[ARMOR <gun <gun "heat" <gun (BIG GUN) gun> gun> "more heat" gun> ARMOR]."
in other words, what mech had the best armor and firepower of all the mechs ever made??? completely ignoring mobility of course
what would you be afraid of, no matter what mech your in?

The Clan mechs themselves just have different appearances for the most part, it's the equipment loaded onto them that gives them their superiority.
A lot of Clan mechs are "Omnimechs," which, in TableTop Battletech, would allow for very fast weapon swapping and repairing of damaged Omnipods but at the downside of having locked internal items such as engine size, armor, etc. Omnis could modify those internals if they really wanted to, but then they would lose Omni capabilities and become a standard Battlmech. The Inner Sphere eventually makes Omnimechs of their own but their equipment still sucks in comparison.
TL;DR: Battlemech = can customize everything but it takes longer, Omnimech = customize weapons really fast but can't touch anything else without becoming a Battlemech.

I dunno, I was just describing how a lot of Clan mechs differ from IS mechs.
How PGI decides to implement Omnis has yet to be seen (should be interesting). The problem is that Battlemechs here are teh pwnsauce, so Omnis will need some adjustments to make them desirable over a Battlemech of the same chassis.

Repair and Refit
used to be part of the game back in Closed Beta. Had a few issues with people exploiting part of the Mechanic (why they made it with such a naive exploit is still beyond me), and of course, some people didn't like actually not being able to use their max tech toy every single match, because some builds actually would lose money, which pretty obviously seemed to be the idea, as it followed TT and Canon, in that running a totally tricked out Assault Mech, was generally not going to create revenue, hence they were usually reserved for critical important missions by commanders.
Merc Units, and even militaries, have ALWAYS had to take cost into consideration, but it was apparently too much for some. I readily agree, if this game remains TDM style ONLY, it has no place, but if thee is ANY sort of persistent game, then it needs to resurface in some manner in Community Warfare. It is literally one of the only ways to NOT instantly obsolete all IS Mechs once Clan Tech shows up.
So,,, you imply that all those who complained about R&R are kids (characterizing their mechs as "toys" and saying that such a simple mechanic (in your mind) was "too much for some." But then, in the very next line, you agree that R&R has no place in disconnected matches like what we have now.
So which is it? Are we kids, or are we making valid points about R&R being nothing more than a stupid tax as long as the meta game remains nonexistent? The lack of any persistent metagame is what makes R&R pointless: I don't think anyone will argue that it doesn't potentially have a place in Community Warfare "campaigns" or whatever they end up having.
EDIT: To expand on the points, it's really, really stupid to balance things with out-of-game cost when all we have are distinct, individual matches with no connection between them. In what we have now, it's not at all comforting to think, "Yeah, he really destroyed me with his tricked out mech, but at least he didn't make very much money!"
On the other hand, if we have CW, with maybe a limited number of funds available for each set of matches, or maybe a max BV-type thing, then it has a place: It's not, "Well, he probably didn't make as much money as me," it's "That means that if he gets destroyed, his faction is going to really feel it," or "His faction might not be able to repair his mech afterwards."
It doesn't work in what we have now, because "the game" is what happens in each match. But it works in CW, because "the game" is expanded to include the costs and the spaces between each individual match.

I don't think you understood the point behind the statement. Some of us didn't think R&R was that bad of an idea. With the current game play, I'll kinda agree with you though I made a lot of points a page back if you wouldn't mind reading that.
The larger idea was that R&R would probably be better in a CW set up, with persistent economy, territory gain and loss, rank, etc. Once more, I presented more on this on my take of things a page back that you could read.
Personally, I had more fun and enjoyment back when R&R was in the game than I do now. But, right now, I feel like something big is coming, soon. I just get the feeling the game is holding its breath at an upcoming large change.
Personally, I kinda hope they give you a few choices on what mech you can pilot in CW at first, and limit what you can upgrade depending upon rank and faction points. If you can understand what I mean, as I don't think I'm being clear right now with this idea...

If that is how you choose to read it, that is your perogative. I usually find "reading between the lines" especially from people you don't know on a forum to be silly, and generally incorrect assumptions are made, but that is my perogative.
I do believe the cogent point being made rather simple: in current zero meta TDM environment, RnR is out of place. But if CW is instituted in some sort of persistent manner, then it is very much part of the game. Interesting that after you chose to put whatever meaning you wanted into my words, you still stated essentially the same conclusion.
Maybe if more people didn't get on forums looking to take offense at everything, and had skin evenrice paper thick, we'd see a whole lot less arguing and ********.
Seriously... I suppose you have never heard a grown man refer to his hot rod, or custom motorcycle or highly modified firearm as "his new toy"? You know what.. No. Done holding hands and worrying what people think.
New policy: if you wanna feel upset at everything a person says that isn't perfectly with your sensibilities, please pm me so we can set out forum profile to ignore each other. If people actually want to hold conversations and discussions, let's do that.
