The only downside I've found with this map is that, well, it makes the other maps feel dated by comparison. Recently PGI has really stepped up giving us the kind of terrain that we've wanted - bigger, open environments with rolling cover and all kinds of hillsides with Alpine. Then, they went and bumped it up another notch with Tourmaline Desert. It hits my check box of everything that makes a great MechWarrior map:

[x] Lots of rolling hills and cover
[x] A unique aspect to make it memorable, but not so unique it doesn't represent multiple worlds
[x] A large size to allow team maneuvering and hide & seek/hit & run
[x] Largely unrestricted or "path" movement: You can easily maneuver up the hills
[x] An alien twist on a typical Earth environment

When I first saw screenshots of the map I had assumed huge parts would be impassable to force 'pathways.' Being able to run up those jagged spires and jump jet off of them at will has resulted in some of the most epic escapes this game has seen so far (and even midair fire exchanges). It's really exceeded my expectations.

Getting the earlier maps with their smaller, more "pathway" feel, feels like a sharp contrast by comparison.

Anyway, keep it up! These are the kinds of maps I and I think many others have wanted since day 1.

I like the map and where the maps are headed in terms of size. Coincidentally, it's my most played map to date...which shows how much I've played since the new stats started getting shown.

Definitely the best map to date. This is how large maps need to be done, visually it is very appealing and it plays really well.

I hope they tweak alpine to be a bit more interesting and play better...

I liked it at first but I get it almost every time I drop, and when I don't I get alpine. I've forgotten what river city looks like, did they take it out of the rotation?

looks cool but too limited in tactical options. Alpine has many more options but tourn is just fight in the middle.

I cant say that I dislike any map except maybe alpine peaks but thats probably because it was never ment to be 8 vs 8.

I agree it's my favourite map by far even though I prefer laser mechs and obviously the heat is an issue. The map design more than makes up for how hot it is though. I can't wait for more maps of this quality  perhaps a winter version of Tourmaline? :)

I love the alien environment. I love the size of the map. I love how it includes other areas of the Battletech universe in the crashed Mammoth.

This map is iMo my favorite MW:O Map !

You need to have a balanced build to be competetive.
Its a step into the right direction for MW:O.

I like the tourmaline desert more then alpine, one because I can actually take cover easier, and two it does give an alien vibe which is cool. I feel that as some people have said, that alpine and or tourmaline would benefit from larger groups of mech because for me at least I sometimes end up just wondering around, for more time then desired.I am still fine with the maps though, just gotta stop playing conquest where I keep on getting capped by lights on alpine......

I do love this new map. But one thing I noticed (might be wrong) but does it feel like the heat on this map isn't correct? This map is hotter than Costic Vally isn't it? Yet when I play the two maps it feels like I over heat easier on Costic Vally.

Im pretty sure they said it is in a two star solar system so its unlikely that it will even have a night time on this planet.

This is because while the ambient heat is higher, Caustic's caldera is MUCH hotter.

I'd like to disagree. In my view Tourmaline has A LOT more options than Alpine especially in terms of options for flanking maneuvers. Yes usually both sides set up somewhere around D5 and duke it out per long range. But the H line has a multitude of nicely covered paths to get into the back of the enemy or even pass them by completely and get at their base.

Also unlike Alpine neither side has a watchout point from which they can keep eye on all possible paths. So in my view it clearly is a more tactical map than alpine.

I agree with the OP. Tourmaline is the best Map so far. I just can't wait to see what they do when making a city map of that size. Urban canyons divided by wide parks I'd just love that. Maybe also with hills and stuff like San Franzisco or so.
