Just wondering if I can get some pointers on this Gauss build I was thinking of working towards.

I'm still fairly new, so I appreciate any advice and tips on this build. Thanks much!

Absolutely painful to level up the pilot skills. If you have the patience, it's not a bad build. I don't have this one elited yet, and by god, it NEEDS speedtweak something fierce. I'm sticking to it, and hoping elite's will sell it to me.
Advice....level up in the standard AC/40 build, and swap to this once elited to try it.....I'm stubborn though, so doing it the hard way

its side torso profile is 1/3 that of the jager. your going to be getting your XLs blown out a lot

This build is strictly something to aim for right now. I don't have the XL (And honestly that's what i need the msot feedback on since it's a ***** to farm for) and as far as the gauss ammo, I'm used to running out on fights with dual AC20s.

You should usually buy engines in Heatsink threshold sizes if money is tight. I started with 6 tons myself, but really, 25 double gauss shots (5t) is fine, and where I ended up. with 4xML, you do have nice backup weapons. I can't stress enough how PITA slow it is though. If it's a choice between buying the XL, or farming other variants....buy the variants first..you really really want elite skills on this one. Good Luck!

Not true. I've been out-damaging and generally doing really well compared to a lot of K-2s I see, even with just 1 guass rifle. Jager is one of the best weapon swapping mechs I've played with, I don't use an XL though.
Also boost leg armor at least 20 in each if you can OP.

i disagree
keeping ammo with the gauss rifle means if your arm gets hit, there's a chance the crits will affect the ammo instead of the rifle, potentially giving you more longevity with the rifle itself. for that matter any time you're ever running a gauss rifle in any build, i would try to fill every single crit in whatever component it's in
and if you lose a rifle, you won't need as much ammunition anyways

This was actually my assumption. On the wiki, it says -
Each time the internal structure of a 'Mech takes damage, there is a chance that the hit will cause at least 1 critical hit. There is a 25% chance of causing 1 critical hit, a 14% chance of causing 2 critical hits, and a 3% chance of causing 3 critical hits (for a total of a 42% chance of any sort of critical hit). Each critical hit will randomly hit a weapon or piece of equipment in that location; the chance of a particular piece of equipment being hit is proportional to how many critical slots it occupies. Each critical hit damages the weapon/equipment an amount equal to the damage that caused the critical hit

No, it isn't...in fact, the Jager is better for the simple fact of I can run the same Double-Gauss build on all 3 of my Jagers while running up my XP for elite perks, but if I flew a K2 I would have to fly 2 other Catapults that cannot have cannons at all and instead use missiles...and I don't like Catapults or missiles. The Jagermech is here to stay, and nobody gives a toss about the K2 anymore....get over it.

225 for an extra built in HS and more speed. More armor in the legs. Dropped one ton of ammo. Keep the ammo in the arms, gauss ammo is great for critpadding the gauss rifle (less chance the gauss gets hit on a crit).
If you think 5 tons of ammo is not enough, learn to aim ;-)

personally i think the ammo ammount is fine when i was donig a 2x gauss id haver longer matches where i ran out but thats something you will have to figure out by trial and error.
also you could dump the 2 heat sinks and upgrade engine. 2 heat sinks wont make a HUGE differnce and if enemy gets close enough that you have to use them then your already in some trouble. If you start overheating either chain fire them or stop using them and use the gauss only for a bit.

Also, move the ammo from your arms to your legs and side torsos. Gauss ammo cannot explode; you're in more danger of a gauss rifle exploding and shattering your side torso. Your legs will also be behind cover most of the time you're firing on an enemy, so you won't really need to worry about losing it there. Also, this ensures that if one arm is destroyed (trust me, it'll get destroyed a lot), you can still use the ammo in your good gun.

-- Edit --
And you might want to spread that armor out a bit more, you're really really light in the legs. If anyone paying attention catches that during a match (it's not hard to notice) you'll be dead meat.
