i know everyone is calling this mech the throw away, but i honestly want opinions.

(this is not a flame thread, nor is it chuckle thread but a serious idea thread for those that want to explore what might be the ultimate scout of MWO.)

Personally my opinion is that i will get flea fervor, and try to lvl these babies up to maximum.

I wrote a short poem about the viability of the Flea:

The flea looks good.

The end.

I wouldn't dismiss the flea.

The stock loadout will come with x5 energy hard points (The Flea-15 has 5 energy 2 ballistic) and hitting it will by like trying to nail a raven on crack.

Right there it's miles above the Death Knell.

I don't think there is anything throw away about it and it's going to surprise a lot of people.

if the concept art is like the actual mech those arms are going to be able to intercept a some damage. Perhaps not a lot but taking damage is the name of the game. Even though it's 15 tons lighter than the jenner i think with the hardpoint loadouts that this could be quite devastating.

I am boating lrm-s,

I will hate it as any other light mech ;)

Another poem:

Locust in Flea's Clothing
It would appear possible
An unseen reseen

I think it has potential. 5 small lasers is respectable damage output if it's small and fast enough to sit behind big mechs safely.

It comes with a 120 std. Currently, engine limitations are based on the size of the stock engine.

So I fear it will be rather slow compared to the other lights. Oh, and the JR7-F has six energy slots.

Well if weight matching was in effect in some way, then it could have value. But as it stands a Jenner or a Raven will eat it for lunch.

Nothing, just another jenner or raven running in circle around my mech.

It all comes down to three things; max engine size, ecm and profile.
If it ends up being faster than the commando then it might see some play.
If it get's ECM then it will probably see some play.
If it's really small and hard to hit at a distance it might see some play.

If all three occur then it will definitely see some play dispite being under armed. I say under armed because realistically small lasers and machine guns are all you are really going to be able to put on it. Maybe a couple medium lasers, but that will probably be pushing it. It will more than likely end up as raven, commando and jenner fodder. It will not be faster than the jenner or raven and is out gunned and out armored by them.

E17 has 2mpl 2sl 1flamer
E15 has 2ml 2sl 2mg 1falmer
id hardly call that light armament it only has 3 tons of armor compared to 4.5 max and a a max speed of 97 with a profile probable smaller than a ravens its going to do a surprising amount of damage
there is a variant with a large laser but it only has 2 tons of armor so its going to die
fortunatly we wont see the stealth armor one till the clan invasion is over now you see me now you don't

You forget that chassis weight is a factor too.

max engine = 120*1.4= ~170

max speed = (170/20)*16.2= 137.7
speed tweak: 137.7*1.1 = 151.5

and don't forget MASC: 151.5*4/3=~202kph

Definitely not slow.

With the exception of the speed cap, that would be a really fast mech...

Twenty ton mechs are pretty bad when it comes to the tonnage free versus speed curve. Meaning, the 30 and 35 tons mechs can go as fast or faster than the twenty ton flea while carrying more armor and equipment.

Yes, but in TT, MASC can break when you use it: When a player first activates MASC, they roll 2D6. On a result of 3+, the MASC operates normally. On a 2, the 'Mechs leg actuators freeze up, immobilizing them for the rest of the game.

it should be interesting to see how MASC is implemented in MWO.

I remember back in MW4 using a Flea with nothing but machine guns in the jungle arena, did ok with it (as in, did not die and killed one or two mechs) But sadly I don`t see that as the case this time around.

I blame lack of Duncan.

A big deciding factor will be the mech's size. If it really does have a small profile than it'll be an ideal scout for carrying tag. The smaller the mech is, the harder it'll be to hit, even at 96kph.

MASC will make or break the Flea I think...
