And the first ten SINGLE heatsinks are really single.
But I do believe that the rules, and measurables really need to be condensed in an "official" and readily transparent section, so players can know at a glance. Hell, the old mw4 listed the weapon specs in the mechlab, if I recall correctly. Too much vital info seems spread to the 4 bloody winds and we need forum pros like you to find half of anything (search function is less than great).
Shrugs
What can ya do? (be kinda nice if half the crap from closed beta wasn't magically dissPeared into the ether either.....)
Dammit. I really am becoming a grumpy old man. Get off my damn beach!

There is absolutely NOTHING to indicate this clearly to people who don't. Tutorial text is badly needed. We cannot afford to turn away those that aren't yet fans of CBT.

As a new player (~3 weeks) the need to read on the forums a ton, ask questions on in-game chat, etc. is a frustration.
I think there are three things they could do easily to make the game more appealing to new players.
- mechlab more user-friendly
- handicapped matches (like 8v12) where veterans volunteer to play against newbies and the noobs have an edge
- get rid of trial mechs, and just let people choose any "stock mech," but you can't customize it until you buy it
Just my $0.02 but there is a lot about MWO to turn people off if they hadn't played previous MechWarrior titles, TT, or just want a free game because they have no extra money to spend on gaming.

Currently however, Singles=junk. Doubles=standard to every build. Get them before even using the Mech.

This is actually incorrect, but another common misconception. The only exception are slow light mechs with sub 250 engines, and a couple non-viable Atlas joke builds.

In other news, 'Little Known Fact' was in fact known by close to 95% of polled audience. hahaha

You're right, the title is incomplete. I explained the details in the first post correctly, but I now adjusted the title to reflect this.

The title is indeed a bit ironic - a lot of people know this already. But I stil lfind in all the heat sink discussions people that don't know it, and ... I just wish there was a way to tell everyone in the game about this, because if there are people using the forums that don't know it, what is with all the people that never visit the forums?

1) If you are a light or medium mech, take the following upgrades ASAP:
- Double Heat Sinks
- Endo Steel
Now install all the gear and armour you want to install.
If you still have at least 12 crit slots ...
small error here, you need 14 crit slots for endo steel.

There are three types of DHS:
1. Those that come with the engine; these are the only ones that are "true" 2.0 DHS
2. Those that need to or can be fitted inside the engine; these are 1.4 DHS
3. Those that can be fitted outside the engine; these are also 1.4 DHS.
Or even shorter: The *only* DHS that are "true" 2.0 are those that come with the engine; any you need to or want to add are 1.4.

Oh bloody hell. I forgot that the heat sinks you add to the engine aren't true 2.0 sinks! Thankfully I use smurfy-net to build my mechs before I go anywhere near the game mechlab these days.

Only if the engine is rated 250 or above.
Below 250 it doesn't come with the full complement of 10 heat sinks, and the ones you need to add to get to the 10 required minimum will be 1.4.
So a 100 rated engine comes with only four heat sinks, and you need to add six to get to the minimum 10, with DHS it'll be equivalent to 16.4 SHS (4 * 2.0 + 6 * 1.4).
Also, any DHS you add into an engine rated above 250 will also be 1.4 even though they're "inside" the engine.
