I'm not a frequent forum-goer. So, I'm probably out of the loop.

What IS the standing definition of a cheese-build? 'cause it seems to be pretty contested here.

From what I'm picking up, it seems to be any 'mech that is actually useful, just the other night I was playing my CN9-A, 2MLAS, 3SRM6 Build, even with the nerf, someone said 'Nice Cheese' right after I killed them, the disconnected. I wasn't aware the Centurion was now considered a cheese-build..

So, Oh Great and Mighty Forum-Warriors, Enlighten me!

Any build which finds success given how the game mechanics work is cheese.

A Min/Max build. It maximizes whats good about a build while minimalizing flaws.... Pretty much Common Sense = Cheese.

I run a Cent with 2 mlas, an LBX, a Srm 6 and Srm 4... It's been called Cheese for getting all shotgunny of people. I spread damage out to make up for my aim not being good so I Used common sense so apparently CHEESE.

Any mech built to carry 1 (in most cases) specific type of weapon. Like a SplatCat with all Streak SRM's. A Ilya M that carries 3 UAC-5's or and Stalker with 5-6 PPC's.

They are very effective when used in conjunction with a pilot who knows how to maximize hurting you without leaving themselves open to the obvious flaws that min/maxing brings with that cheese build...

There aren't many people screaming about Cheese anymore, especially with the Missile Nerf.

Those that do are grasping at straws, trying to blame someone other than themselves for getting killed.

It's not like MWO has to worry about 360-No-Scope-Dolphin-Diving-Snipers, but people will still try to blame their epic fails on something other than their own personal skills (or lack thereof).

Fun and jokes aside, I think it's on overused but legitimate term for builds that exploit current game mechanics and generally lack counters for their special little dance they can perform. Any build that allows you to be e-honda running around hundredhandslapping things with near impunity is cheese, particularly when people run them to artificially inflate their epeen. There have been many since the dawn of this game, with widely varying degrees of skill required to hit the 'I win' button... a few that come to mind...

Lunchback -11 energy hardpointed Hunchback 4P -before engine restrictions-

JR7-F -MLas x6/340xl/DHS/JJ -before speed cap/ECMRaven/HSR-

StreakCat -streak x6/jj/big xl dhs -before cockpit-shake nerf and ecm-

Craven 3L -Streak x2/MLas x3/ecm/xl295 -before fixed hitboxes and missile nerf, HSR-

I don't have a problem with cheese anymore, but that's partly to do with there not really being any obvious cheese builds for now and the fact I actively decided to stop getting mad about video games. HSR helps too. When round after round was StreakCatWarriorOnline or LagSheildedECMRavenWarriorOnline, playing MWO was becoming tedious and harder to ignore the smell.

A multi-story tall robot statue carved out of cheddar. Not very quick, but heat neutral.

I'd have thought it was made of Gouda.

Gouda is too soft. A decent swiss might work...

Cheese comes from korean players wanting to say/write cheat. They made it their own and started using it full knowing it was wrong.

A cheese tactic is setting everything on one card. An early rush in star craft for example, which if succesfull cripples your opponent, but if not sucessfull cripples your economy.

In MWO cheese builds are mechs which set everything on one card. Splatcats, Streakcats, 6xPPC Stalker, Full-LRM boats, double AC/20 builds. Anything that performs very well in a certain situation, but has big problems if that situation cannot be forced. Lilke LRM Boat getting swarmed with scouts, Splatcat getting long range fire, PPC Stalker beeing overrun with more then one mech.

lol. with the additions of the superlarge maps where range and heat become factors to contend with, ultra-specialized builds have become less prevalent. Although, there's been a new rash of "I should be able to select what mech I want on what map" threads again.

No, that's a "boat", which may or may not be any good. As others have said, "cheese" is the term baddies use for whatever config killed them last.

Nobody called my Commando-3A a cheese mech. It has 2 MPLAS and 1 SRM4.

And it did kill a lot of people - as long as they don't boat streaks.

... maybe it's because Commandos really suck. =P
