Throughout playing the Mechwarrior series, the only thing you can visualy change on your mech was the paint job. That would be interesting but i can see problems with that already.

Well you can kinda roll around Sarna and then Google the individual variants to get the overall layout of a Mech.

I don't bookmark Sarna, I just google Sarna and the name of a random Mech. Like 'Commando Sarna' or 'Sarna centurion'

why can't they make the hard points or crits interchangable as it is in the table top? it would leave the ultimate customisation up to the player...

Sarna is cool for lore and stuff, but it won't give you a great idea on how this game is gonna be played. I'd check out the dev blogs on this site and you'll have a better understanding on how customization works.

As others have said, the hard point system will not allow you to change the auto-cannon to a laser, however it has been said that they are trying to make it so if you switch say an AC/10 to an ultra AC/5 there will be a visual change.

Because then we get nothing but uber gauss/ppc/missile boats.

really the only people in lore who got to freely customize their 'mechs were Solaris Jockeys, and the really important/powerful figures, or a merc with enough cash.

To customize a standard 'mech it took time and money, and the facilities to do so. Weapons were semi-easy to refit in the field yes, but it created logical nightmares for the military. Instead of knowing "okay battalion Y has X hunchback HBK-4G so it has X amounts of AC/20s and I should need X amount of AC/20 ammo" you'd run into "Battalion X has a hunchback with an two ac/5s, a hunchback with an ac/10, a hunchback with an ac/20, and one with a gauss + some other customization"

your average mechwarrior piloted a state owned and maintained machine, customization on that puppy? Not likely.

Also not following the proper customization rules in the tabletop made for absolutely no difference between standard battlemechs and omni-battlemechs.

Cuz i would be nice with a visual change. It makes the mech feel more like your own, and I think that is kinda important to a game like this.

Here's your official answer. :) At launch, there will be limited visual changes to the Mechs for many of the stated reasons in this thread. We do have a visual solution in place for the hardpoints, but it's going to be a race to the finish, and it may slip into open beta. Like MWLL we each variant has a custom look.

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

To answer your question I'll refer you to Community Q & A #6

"Will weapon changes be visually represented? –Helmer
[DAVID] Yes they will, though some weapons may end up looking very similar. For instance, if a laser is fully embedded into a ’Mech’s torso, so that all you see is the lens, that lens is probably going to look the same for a Small, Medium, or Large Laser. Though the beam fired by the laser will be indicative of the type of laser installed there."

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask. I also highly suggest you take to time to look over the posts here and here as they content a wealth of information.

Cheers.

As others have pointed out the visual changes may or may not make it in. So when you drop the AC/20 from the Torso and place PPCs in the arms of your Hunchback you might get to see the AC housing disappear and PPC housings show up on the arms. Eventually you probably will, but maybe not when the game launches.

Tip: if you type your query and then site:sarna.net google will only search sarna for whatever you were searching for. Centurion site:Sarna.net will only return sarna.net pages that have information about the Centurion.

As others have said before hard points are designed to stop munchkins from making 'Mechs into boating gunbags. Main reason is because in TT customizing 'Mechs heavily is less common and since dice are used to determine hits and locations, massing PPCs or Lasers to pinpoint certain areas on an enemy 'Mech wasn't possible.

No they do not, as of right now this isn't an RPG, rather it's a quickbattle arenaesque type game. Unlike these others I would personally enjoy it if PGI eventually expands the game into more of an RPG that allows you to get out of your 'Mech and do other things. Plus maybe co-op story missions as PvE content.

Spork, Wood, why so against any non-PvP elements? The universe is very rich and just begging to be explored in a way PvP doesn't allow for.
