now the entire chest is flat. makes it look like it lacks detail.

hopefully the standard variants will come out looking like the concept.

sometimes the modelers like to take liberties with Alex's artwork. but the concept art is made after so much deliberation, reiteration and approval. why would the modelers mess with all that hard work.

Same thing happened with the stalker :<

Concept art of Highlander is the best artwork for assault mech. I love it.

By contrast, "Heavy metal" 3D model .... :)

I agree with those who compared the heavy metal pics to the concept art and were a little disappointed. The concept art looked tougher, bulkier, heavier, more like what a 90 ton assault mech should be.

the pink 3d modeled highlander looks like it could easily be a 60 ton mech instead. it just dosnt look as massive as an atlas or even the stalker or awesome models.

i would also say that some of the panels look flat, boring, square-ish wheras on other mechs the art team did a great job of breaking up lines and making irregularities that gave the mechs character. the torsos and arms suffer from this the most. overall the boxiness and straight unbroken lines of this model give it a 2d appearance.

i will give them the benefit of the doubt because i haven't see the non-hero model yet, and as some people said maybe the viewing angle has something to do with why it looks so unfortunate. but I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed when I saw it.

I still think it's just WiP.

When you consider the fact all other parts of the mech have great detail (relative to that frontal torso), the rear part of the troso looks like a masterpiece in comparison.

I think it might not be the final version yet - the SRM6 texture is AWFUL - compare it how hunchback 4SP's looks - I'd be hugely surprised if this was indeed the final look.

Imo, I don't think there's anything wrong with Alex's interpretation.

Just the 3D model must get a bit of polish. That is someone else's work, not his. :)

That is the picture of a badass mech. The pink ingame version looks crap when compared with it.

Looks more awesome to me. I want to have Johnny Five Highlander Mech NAU.

There can only be one.

One is a custom hero mech piloted by a legendary FEMALE pilot.

On the Internet? Surely not.

MW2 mercs

MW2 Mercs is timeless

I agree that the translation between the concept and 3D leaves much to be desired from what we have seen so far.

My opinion is to make the center torso protrude more from the side torsos, beef up the arms (especially the gauss rifle...it lost all intimidation) and make the mech have more of a hunched-forward look, as if the mech is that big guy at the bar lumbering toward you about to kick your ***.

EDIT: Granted I am making all these judgements/suggestions based on 1 screenshot and a brief video. In game this could be 100% different

For Blake's sake....

Garth, Bryan....can someone there at PGI stage a decent shot of this thing from a profile view with all visual goodies on?

Even I, needing a new eye prescription, and being 3 ft from my monitor can tell the angle of that shot is what's causing this thread. You guys will want to refine that release image for this mech, or nobody will be buying it due to it looking off in this teaser shot.

Personally I knew this would be the Assault Hero the second this mech was introduced, I knew it would be obnoxiously pink, have a rack of speakers that any musician would be proud of, and have a weird loadout(chest missile changes, etc).

All I want to know is:

A. Tell me the fn cockpit isn't pink!
B. Tell me you can crank Elvis on those speakers and annoy the crap out of your enemy!

Rock on Rhonda!

I have to wonder... Why the **** would they post THIS awful pic?

Surely you'd go to great pains for the first glimpse of the new highly anticipated mech to look BADASS in the extreme.

At least they remembered to turn on anti aliasing for the screen shot this time. They didn't for the last few. Professionalism.

I don't understand what people are missing, there's a slight translation difference from picture to 3D model... however if you look closely you'll notice that pretty much every piece that was there in the concept art is also on the in game rendering, and it was the same for the Awesome and the Stalker, which is a shame and sad news for the art department you guys aren't noticing that... it's all there. In the PAX East video I think that Highlander looks amazing, just look at those hard points and who could miss the JJ exhaust on the rear.... I think it looks great PGI!

P.S. Judging by the Hero variant vs. that stock load the Highlander will have very well rounded variants!

Yeah. I'm not really seeing what people think is wrong with the 3D model. Looks damn near identical to the concept art to me. I just think PGI is really good at taking screenshots that distort how the Mech should look. The Highlander is clearly looking upwards to the sky (probably its maximum vertical) and the screenshot is being taken from a low angle. All the proportions and details look very close to the concept art upon direct comparison.

Remember the derpy, tubby leg pic we had of the jagermech and IMO it turned out way better in game than the wonky angle we first saw it at.

Watch the video and see how she moves, how she shakes, how she makes those AMS clap... you definitely lose something in translation from a moving mech to a static pose.

I'm all about more 'mechs in the game. I never was much on the highlander. Is it from Mechwarrior 4 that all the love comes from? I didn't buy any of the mech packs from the series.

you'll notice that where the R/L torsos are sunken in on the concept art. it is elevated on heavy meta.

maybe those are her mech boobs

now the entire chest is flat. makes it look like it lacks detail.

Didn't someone ask for female mechs recently. Here they are!
