Is anyone else really pissed off/unnerved that PGI is reducing the view distance of thermal and night vision? That's so unrealistic and lets be honest, half if not 3/4 of the kills on river city night and frozen city during a snowstorm are using thermal vision. Furthermore I'd say at least a quarter of the damage taken is from mechs using long range weapons to snipe enemies from large distances. Is this an end to sniping as we know it? I hate the idea of putting my face up to my monitor and squinting to be able to hit someone with my ER PPC K2...

No.

I don't use thermals or night vision to snipe long distances. You don't need them. And you don't have to squint up to your monitor to do it.

Unless you're playing on a 800 x 600 window.

No, i for one look forward to charging headlong into the enemy and crossing your fingers being the only viable tactic. Down with variety and role warfare.

NOPE! Still going to snipe people 5 seconds into the match. Not going to change a thing.

Nope, not pissed off at all. Seeing a target from that far off without some sort of extreme zoom was ridiculous to begin with. And no, 3x/4x isn't anything like extreme zoom.

It's actually an equalization of the vision modes. Now none of them are obviously better than the others.

This is Beta. Adapt or die.

Buy a real computer. I can see BETTER in normal vision on most maps at 1k+ than I can in Thermal. :)

Yep, I'm tired of playing shoot-at-rainbow-blobs-in-grey-land all the time because thermal is tactically superior in almost all circumstances.

I have two lovely monitors and 20/20 vision. lol sometimes i even use a LG laser projector to play on a biiig screen FFS. I guess it's not the worst thing in the world, it's just the fact of knowing I'll actually have to try to see things better.

Then you literally have no excuse. You just need practice.
Besides, like someone else has said:

i hate more that i HAVE to use thermal vision to be able to see at any decent range.
i mean for F's sake GET RID OF THAT HAZE ALREADY.

My real fear is that come april 2nd anyone hoping ot be effective at sniping will require a module (that is if it even works at all) which would mean newer players would have a month or two (depending on play rate) before they could do any decent sniping. And vet players would have an extra day or two grind attached to every mech so they could get the module.

I love both of those maps.

Best maps.
Forest City (Both)
Frozen City Night
Alpine
Desert

Worst Maps
River City Night (Kill this map)
Frozen City.

I wasn't aware this was a nerf. I naively thought it was a refinement to an initial but incomplete system that, along with night vision, has come under a fair bit of criticism in its current state.

Pretty much. There are more maps where thermal is an advantage than maps where it isn't.

because alot of maps have that nice annoying "haze" after 600 meters it doesnt make it immpossible to see but alot more difficult, throw in trees with that haze and it becomes ugh then add in ecm cover prevent you from seeing a target and its GRRAAAAAA

Nope. All you have to do us put the crosshairs on the mech and click the fire button - same as always. Besides, default spotting range to target a mech is 800m. View distance for thermal and night vision is 700m. Boo-freaking-hoo
