If I had an X-5 this would probably be the build I'd run.

I think the X-5 is great right out of the box. I swapped the SRM2s for streaks, and added the 360 Degree and Advanced Sensor Range modules. It seems like there is a narrow window where I can still lock on to ECM mechs, and I've been able to practice exploiting this "hole" to really bring some pain to 3Ls. I'm an Assault driver who generally hates light mechs, but I freakin love the X-5. It has given me a whole new appreciation for this class of mechs.

XL280
2 x ERPPC
Strip the arms and legs a bit
14 DHS

Snipe from any position before quickly redeploying
Enough speed to outrun anything bigger than you
Heat dissipation is good enough to brawl if some one jumps you

This is adapted from the classic Cicada sniper build (XL255 and ECM + BAP on a 3M).

It's a nice little change of pace from running quick flankers, and fun to mix up the builds a little as you grind XP.

It is a little slow to start with, but once you get speed tweak unlocked it improves in this respect a lot more.

Hilarious fun on the big maps (Alpine and Tourmaline).

Don't knock it till you tried it :(

You have 21 slots open why not use FF armor and stick another DHS in it or upgrade to a XL320 and max out the leg armor.

To be honest, I feel the best loadout currently for the X5 is obviously this:
X-5

In addition to being a great mech, the X-5 is also pound for pound the absolute best value in a hero mech that you can get for your MC investment. Massive XL, DHS, and other upgrades as well as being a unique variant for the Cicada chassis.

This is one of the few times where not having AMS on a mech is haunting it. The X5 badly needs it in the current meta.

Alright, so this is my first post on the forums. I've only been playing for a few weeks, so I'm still working out all the ins and outs of building mechs. I just saw an X-5 with two large lasers and a pair of streak SRMs and was so impressed with it I bought one, and now I'm trying to figure out how to balance the weights to actually get that weapon combo on there. What can I change to make those fit? (Yeah, this is a noob question. I've been a Mechwarrior for 10 years, but I'm really new to the game). Any suggetsions?

I don't know why you would use 2 LL when you can keep the 4 ML and have a bit more firepower, same heat, and free up 6 tons. The only advantage I can see is increased range.

But if you want it I have an idea on how you could make it.
-It uses a XL295
-2 LL, one in each torso
-2 SSRMs with 3 tons of ammo
-Max out all armor other then the left and right arms which could possibly be at 10 pts each or lower
-Endo Steel
-FF
-DHS

I got the x5 and i am disappointed. Anyone have any suggestions for it's build? It just seems sad. Maybe I am missing something.

Do you have experience with other light/speedy mechs?

Do you have a high frame rate and good "ping"?

I got the X-5 back when I had an unsupported video card and, at 1200x720 resolution and 11 frames per second, I had a hard time hitting targets. It was worse at X-5 speed. I realized that was most of my problem, and shelved the X-5 until I upgraded my hardware. It's doing much better now, but still a big adjustment from the heavy and assault mechs I'm used to.

The Cicada, in general, is also in an odd niche. It depends on speed, but compared to a 35-ton Jenner or Raven it's a bigger target with little gain in payload.

XL 320
X4 Med lasers
X2 SSRM

The lasers are there to harass big mechs, the SSRM's should be strictly saved for anti-light combat.

The best part about streaks is that they allow you to aim your lasers accurately without having to worry about how to hit with the streaks. As soon as you go over to SRM's, you have to lead the target and all that, which fowls your ML aim. It was actually easier to hit with both of them before HSR was implemented: you could use the lasers to determine the lead length for the SRM's.

The other good think about Streaks is that, unlike SRM, they really are effective out to their maximum range.

If it was me, this is it:

X-5

Don't over heat much either. You can drop the extra ton of SSRMs for another DHS or a bigger engine, up to your liking.

Bought the X-5 when it was on sale. Since then it kinda sat in its bay, collecting dust. I haven't gotten into lights and "ultra-fast" Mechs yet (their "twitchyness" actually scares me :)), but today I decided to change that.

Since I didn't want to go the brawler-/harasser-route with this thing, I decided to turn it into the ultimate scout-/spotter-Mech. I know.. the ECM-Cicada is probably better suited for this role. But I'm a little short on C-Bills right now and want to use the X-5 to earn enough to buy the ECM-version.

Anyway: Here's the build:

X-5 "Lil' B@stard"

My module-slots are filled with Adv Sensors (2/2) and a standard UAV.

I'm not too sure about NARC, since it takes up so much tonnage and I've been hearing nothing but bad/"meh" comments on TS about it. In the three of four matches I ran thus far, it seemed to help quite nicely, though. Especially when combined with TAG and the UAV.

Alternate build minus NARC and with 2x MedPLSL and 1x LrgPLSL

NARC-less
