As a side, I canceled my cable TV subscription for the same reason, I found that I spent as much or more time watching commercials than i did watching the shows i wanted.

do you mean BETA testing?
i knew when i bought my founders pack that the game was not finished. i will admit there are certain changes that i am not a fan of, but they never tried to claim that the game was done or that all of the current rules were set in stone.
i miss repair and reload. i think removing it was a mistake that severely broke gameplay. my interest has steadily waned to the point that now i rarely play even once a week. i have not seen the desert map and currently am not interested enough to bother with it.
as noted by my tag i spent $30 because i thought this game had potential, but it was and still is going through the design process. if you paid your $120 expecting everything to stay the same or stick precisely to your particular ideals of what the game should be then that makes you king moron.
there are some that say this isn't beta because they are accepting money. news flash, they were accepting money with founders packs back in closed beta. BETA is an admission that the game is not complete and there are still many changes to come. this was not a bait and switch. they have made it very clear all along that things will change.
i can respect not liking the direction the game has taken, but demanding a game that is in beta to be perfect and unchanging is pure ignorance.

But seriously, if they were going to implement ads I suggest starting there.

Think about it, I mean really truly think about it. If PGI sold add spots for $10,000 per business quarter to just ten companies that would be enough to develop a map in the first 3 months. I really don't see a down side to loosing 30 seconds at client launch in an effort to help PGI develop this game and bring in extra money that could only help brighten the future of MWO.
Personally I'd hoped for a more open minded and less anti PGI response from the community that while complaining and moaning about the game still plays and spends money on it. Most of the people who are against this idea seem to play it a heck of a lot for not liking it.
I don't know maybe it's not the idea you're against but PGI in general. I'll admit they haven't done what was expected in some cases, and I will admit a bit of disappointment with how MWO has developed, but this idea was presented with the mindset of helping PGI to make the game and hope for the best outcome. Sure if I or you were in charge then things would likely be different with ECM, LRM, Boating, Variants and a host of other things. We're not though and we have to hope that PGI gets it and understands what the community as a whole, not as an individual wants.
The idea of commercials at launch of client to help pay for the development of a genre we all seem to love, that would provide money at no cost to us except 30 seconds a client launch seems to me like a great idea. It provides them with money, helps provide us with a Mechwarrior game, and may help to reduce costs for us in the future. I presented this idea in an effort not to be selfish and closed minded, in an effort to help the community and PGI. I hope some of you reconsider your "NO" and find it in your hearts to reconsider the idea to better our game, the game we've been waiting for.
Thank you

As this is a niche game as much as PGI dont want to admit, in reality they would probably get more revenue from making a small subscription fee vs spending time and money coding in an advertisment system, sending people out canvasing potential advertisers to provide the advertising, then having people quit because they dont want advertisements in games.
My leisure time is precious and I dont want to waste it watching ads.

I saw Rob Schneider's face. DEUCE BIGELOW, MALE GIGOLO was emblazoned across the walls of a planet separated by innumerable amounts of time and space from this Earth.
That moment snapped the illusion. I stopped playing Planetside 1 shortly after that, and that's the experience I remember most that killed the game for me.
If commercials come here, I will not be watching them.

I've already dumped over $250 into this game. If they show me a single commercial I'll drive to Vancouver and give them a good piece of my mind (it's only like an hour away).

None of those services are immersive like game, movie, or book. An ad on Google isn't going to break my immersion. AND I do pay for Netflix, there's no ads there - I refuse to use Hulu because even once paid there are still ads. So: NO again.
