Bah cant get manage poll to work right now from tablet.

Anyways, would you drive a purpuse built mech that when alpha strike is used your reactor goes critical?

Not outside a instant respawn gametype, no.
...and not inside one either. And I probably wouldn't like an instant respawn gametype either.

No, I wouldn't. 7 ERLL Novacat is the stupidest thing I have ever witnessed. Alpha, flush coolant, alpha, die.

Nope. Playing Jimmy Jihad is not MechWarrior.

If you plan on doing this you are putting your team down a notch by taking a useful and productive members place on the team.

You have no guarantee that you will "Stackpole' and explode in a devastating manner, nor will you be able to be sure you are going to catch enough people in your relatively minor blast radius.

Nah - I try to play mechwarrior/battletech as if I actually cared about the 'mech I'm in. I try to avoid taking damage and I definitely wouldn't suicide my 'mech. Too expensive (and I'd be dead...)

I don't think so, no suicide runs.

Not sure the developers are planning to make reactor breaches a part of the game at this stage. Shutdowns yes, baby nuke don't think so.

I hope we can help weed out all the exploits and get the balance right.

No and no one would build one.. Mechs are to costly in resources to waste intentionally.. Just lob a Arty nuke at them it your gonns nuke them anyway.. why waste a Mech and Pilot..???

My team did this for a drop once in ADL back in Black Knight. It was mission play, and we put High Explosives in the Hellspawns and nuked them on top of the bases we needed to destroy.

Two birds with one stone - won the battle, got rid of some Hellspawns for us.

hmm, I might try stripping down a mech and filling it with as much machinegun ammo as I can fit then charging up as close to the enemy as I can, ram an enemy assult and stick next to him till you get shotup and maybe even take him out with you if you go critical with all that ammo.

Your team looses one stripped down Jenner worth of BV, they lose an Atlas. I doubt I'd do it more than once unless it was very effective though.

Vastly overheating your Mech will just cause ammo to explode, systems to fail, and even kill the pilot. You don't act as a walking bomb. The chances of you causing a reactor to go crit by overheating yourself to death should be very very low. You'd just have explosions and slump over dead, and everyone around you would be laughing.

I see it's already been said, but for anyone wanting to know how a Battlemech actually functions beyond the little email you got in your inbox recently, here ya go:

I don't think I've used alpha strike since MechWarrior 2. In MW4, however, I used high explosives in a Vulture in PvP because I got so tired of people playing matches without heat management and equiping 10 Large X Pulse lasers to cockpit shoot everyone at 800 meters.

I would turn the torso around, run full speed into 3-5 guys, detonate, and take them all out. Didn't take long for game host to remove High Explosives from allowable weapons list.

So would I drive a walking bomb in MWO? Nah... but it made me remember a funny thing from a long time ago.

It depends on the situation.

Is my ride an UrbanMech? Am I piloting it against Davion oppressors? Do I have to face the wrath of the Chancellor if the mission should fail?

Who in their right mind would purposefully put a multi-million C-Bill piece of hardware on the chopping block like that? Purpose built to wreck itself...in these situations I can just imagine a Tech looking at the pilot wide-eyed, throwing his spanner wrench on the ground between him and the pilot, and storming off yelling things I can't post here.

That would be the dumbest thing to do... I see no reason for it.
